What a beautiful old Silverbird !!! Very nice built Video-Intro opening - and priceless graphical convertings too. We can see a very, Very rare beautiful plane - and really interesting to watch and hear informations from an Expert about its history... so, i must give a big THANK YOU !!! Your channel is a treasure chest - AWESOME
I witnessed one of these crash near Lyme NH. Before it took off when the pilot started it sounded like crap. It was popping like it was missing. He said it was normal. He took off from a private field went all most straight up and stalled out and plowed into the nearby cornfield. He and his 10yr old son burned up in the wreckage. Still remember how his burnt arm was sticking up through the cockpit
Thes trainers {to me} are just as important as any 51 or Spitfire to keep flying. This shows the true history of what pilots trained in before fighters & combat. It is a beauty
Hello Alex, at 1:57 you show us a fairly close up view of the tail cone and vertical stabilizer. The stabilizers (and rudder trim tab) are shiny aluminum, but the rudder is grey. Is the rudder painted grey aluminum, or is it made of some other metal? There are about 7 horizontal creases in the rudder, and I can't see how these have been fastened to the ribs; I don't see rivets associated with these creases. How is the rudder shell plating fastened to the ribs? - Ian Douglas
Hi Ian. The rudder and elevator are constructed of an aluminum frame, covered and stitched with fabric, which is why they look so different. The creases you see are where the fabric is tied to the rib and covered with an additional layer of fabric for sealing. Many WWII aircraft featured fabric covered control surfaces, including some models of P-51 Mustang, P-40, Fw 190, Bf 109, Hurricane, Mosquito, etc. I hope that answered your question. :-)
My dad is going to be 92 years old he used to be part owner of Compton airport and Corona and Hesperia air college in California he used to collect bt3 teams and trade the engines up for crop dusting he also said that was one of his favorite planes bt-13 would be a gas to put in inside that cockpit good memories for him we are now in Montana if you ever come to an air show Great falls maybe I would like to know
I found an old document that I copied from my old neighbor. His father ferried the BT-13 from Downey, CA to Enid, OK along with other pilots Hahn, Smilanich, Emigh, Ament, F. Miller. Melichar, etc. I think his name was ''Ernie'. He also flew the B-17 and P-38. In addition, he flew the 'Hump' from DumDum and also flew for Lockheed with H.S. and T.L. He had a foot locker filled with lots of photos and mementoes. I since have lost touch with him. Sorry I did now.
