I don’t think many old people are very scared of death at their age, when my great grandmother was in her mid 90’s she told my grandma that she was ready to go. So I’m sure they don’t think of it in such a bad way anymore
As I lay in my old creaky bed, I stare out the window of the Elderly Home. The sun shine brightly, and it reflects onto the window. I see a rainbow faintly in the distance. Birds chirping everywhere. Happy faces laughing with their joys, and love. And here I was, certain my last breathes would be soon. I hear some steps, and I look at my door and see through the window a lady holding a jar of peanut butter, and some toast. My eyes suddenly glint a shine in my eyes. I thought of a brilliant idea. I start to get out of my bed, my legs ache with pain, but I bear it and go into my wheel chair. I slide down the sidewalk my wheels making occasional creaks. I arrive at an convenience store. My smile starts to grow. As I arrive closer, and pull on the door handle the sign beeps and says welcome. Laughter and cheer echo through the store. Scanning sweets, snacks at the checkout. Workers restocking products. I knew what I came for though, my wheels rolled on the smooth floor as I rode to my destination. I arrived at an aisle of jars, like chocolate spread, vanilla spread, blueberry spread. But I was here for one thing. My eyes scanned through the shelves, well they weren’t that efficient and my eyes burned slightly but eventually I found it! A smile grew on my face. My hand reached out to grab it, the smooth edges nurturing my skin. I head over to the checkout and scan and walk out of the convenience store the item held in my hand. I park my wheelchair near the window, and open the jar. The jar of peanut butter. I grab a couple of biscuits and eagerly dip one in. The smoothy goodness covers the biscuit. Some drips off back into the jar, and I smell the heavenly smell. I lift the cracker up to my mouth. A small smile grows on my face. I look at the people happily walking on the sidewalk. Merchants selling random products. Stores opening and closing up. They all were going on with their lives, unknowingly knowing what was going to happen to mine. The biscuit and peanut butter touch my tongue, and I feel pain starting to erupt inside of me. But that was fine, the butter was heavenly who knew it would taste like this? A laughter starts to form in me. I laugh, my vision starts to go blurry but that’s okay. This peanut butter was so good, I’d finally tried it. People start to crowd around me, but I continue to smile and laugh as the flavor erupts in my mouth. Even as I took my last breathes, I still continued to smile and of course with the peanut butter in my mouth.
Imagine... The old person would hate it. It tasted like garbage. But it was all so, so worth it. The sheer disgust they get makes them laugh. At last, they knew the taste of the snack they'd been craving all these years. And right now, even though it wasn't to their taste, they'd wish they could eat some more. Imagine the old person was someone who gave up on life lomg ago. And this shitty tasting snack made them think- "Fuck. I should've *tried*." And they'd laugh bitterly, thinking of how a snack that didn't even taste good made them want to relive their life. Maybe then, they'd find a snack that's to their taste when they go.
