It's amazing they're these groups of people out there that volunteer and take care and preserve these relics of the past. If not i might have been took young to ever seen them at my age. Thankfully i got ride a steamy like this one in my life time. Great video!!
That girl towards the end of your video looks like a future rail fan.She is working on that train whistle with all of her heart and is taking it all in when the train arrives at the depot.
Absolutely beautiful countryside, so good to see this line being reopened with trains running for people to enjoy, Many thanks for another great video Brian, Love your videos , Chèers from an old train buff in New Zealand,
Thank you so much for the ride on the Durbin Rocket! Beautiful scenery. Thinking about the Cast away adventure. Seems like fun. We're just about 2 hours from there.
Glad you could get out a film this one JT! To the best of my knowledge, this train has since been replaced by the Greenbrier Express. A Shay now runs from Cass to Durbin. I hope to see number 6 doing its job soon. Great Video as Always!
Another great video. This will be even better when they have finished restoring the line the whole distance. Love the sight of steam and the noise of the engine and the whistle. You Americans should be even more proud of these little "iron horses" than the massive "Big Boy" (which is also fabulous) . These old smaller steam locos and your railways (sorry railroads), are so important in your history of building the USA.
Making life worth living again Jaw Tooth.... better start up the Marathon SON, since it's so good viewing the beautiful country and the TRAINS, crossing and the scenery... and the DOGS, and kitten. a LIKE for every post ... thanks Jaw Tooth.
Cheryl and I took the exact train last spring and Loved it. We Love all them. The ones in Frost and Elkins . Jawtooh you would Love the Dinner Trains out of Elkins with the 1958 F model. A lot of them are From the Super Chefs Trains.
This video and the previous one have these V-formation of this Heisler loco or 'Straight -eight' of the Shay loco, turning a prop-shaft. I've never seen the like of them before. Thanks for posting these videos, Jaw Tooth. Keep Well. Cheers!
That was a really cool ride Brian! The castaway campsite at MP 91 looks like a great place to spend the night. Wish we had something like that here in CFL. Thanks for the trip. Cheers, Dan
Wow, JT. That's an outstanding excursion into the back woods of WV. Reminds me of "The Slim Princess" in Bishop CA, a narrow gauge train that has its own rich history!!
*_Congrats Brian, extraordinarily beautiful shots of a beautiful nostalgic train ride! *156*_* *_Excellent video, many thanks! Best wishes from Vienna :-) Richard_*
Please let us know when they go from Durbin to Cass .That's a nice trip. You have to visit Staunton too. They now have two Excursions in Virginia now and trying to get a 4 8 4 Steam Engine to pull it .With Visits from the 611 to run through Ivy Tunnel every so often. Just can't wait for that. I hope it comes true!
This actually looks a lot like the Wilmington and Western - that runs between the Greenbank station (beautiful historic building with a working semaphore signal!) and the Mt. Cuba picnic grove near the river. Occasionally they run to Hockessin, a rather yuppie town with a really nice restaurant trackside, and rarer still, past Hockessin to the hard stop at the end of the line. They run 0-6-0 stream, an Alco diesel and a Doodlebug of all things! Great little railroad. But they don't do what this one does - drop off the caboose on a siding as a camper for the night! That's a real neat idea.
I remember as a grade school kid riding a steam train out of connorsville or to connorsville in, cant remember exactly what kind of RR it was , bt it did have a steam engine like this one !!
Show o lugar!!!!
Hoi Brian, wow this was super Amazing to see.i wish i was there to.wat a nature cool.and the sound from the steam flute.super.thanks mine friend,i show this video on the 29th this month ,then is it mine birdsday.lol.
Cool video. I went to Whitewater valley rr weekend before last and rode to Metamora & back. Unfortunately the barge was down and wouldn't be running again till next year.
Hey Jaw, just found this great video of one of my favorite little railroads in WV. Durbin is a great little town, check out Station No.2 restaurant if you are there, great food, nice folks. A good friend of mine and her family stayed in that Wabash caboose overnight and had a great time fishing the Greenbrier, nice trout stream.
I see ya went to Durbin instead of Cass I went up one weekend and stayed in a caboose and spend most of the time fishin in the Greebrier and had a blast up there..went to Cass and stayed a week in one of their cabins all nice and peaceful
I figured that after all that running you'd hit up both places..loving all ur videos you work so hard at producing..I've been passing ur site around getting you more subscribers...
I have to wonder if I'm the only one here who actually rode behind WM #6 when the original line was still in. Yeah, I'll admit that I'm that old. The year after the track was washed out, I changed jobs which pretty much put a stop to my trips as I could not have time off between June 1 and Nov 30.
12:31 I like this idea of camping in the caboose overnight! 19:54 How is the water pumped into the tender? Is a pump built into the tender? How does the pump get power? Thank you.
It has a steam jet syphon. Think of it as an injector that is open on both ends and far simpler. You see the steam come out at the very first which is creating a vacuum in the line to the creek. Once water gets to the unit, the steam then pushes the water on up the pipe and into the tank. No moving parts in it and only needs a valve to turn the steam on and off. Also called eductors or ejectors.
Yes, the Cast Away Caboose is really cool. They set it right by the river so you can fish and hike along the river in privacy. We saw a bear near there also.
Actually, cass scenic railroad is lending durbin their heisler because the climax at durbin is undergoing repairs EDIT: whoops didn't see you put that in the description haha
How did cass Hiestler 6 end up here? I was there 10 years ago but the train wasn't running that day. There was however a 2-truck heistler in pieces at Durbin
@@RRBuilder611 Soot is soft and powdery. Cinders are hard and actually will remove soot. Soot is more or less pure carbon. Cinders are carbon plus other minerals.

Diesel-Electric locos are always fun to watch but the feeding and drinking of a live steam machine is awesome!! 👍🏻👍🏻
I totally agree!
Awesome cool, digging through some older video... really like that Cass railroad, someday I will get there !! 🚂 👍
You should!

Great country, use to run around Montgomery, Virginia in the early 60's. Saw the Case RR when it was shut down, great shots.

I believe the line has been finished the whole distance. I want to return
@@JawTooth Great. I will look out for the updated video. Steam rocks in every country in the world!
Love the scenery. Wish the embers wouldn't run people off. The open air gondola is a nice touch.
Jaw Tooth I really enjoyed this train ride with all the nice sceneries and it was also very interesting!! Thanks so much for sharing this video!! 😄😄
Great video my friend😊
What a find Brian! I have put this down as a must do for next summer! Camping remote in a caboose? Sweet!
Book as soon as possible as dates can fill up quickly. mountainrailwv.com/tour/castaway-caboose-overnights/
Fabulous journey through some great scenery and great sounds from the loco , just like the movies . ........Peter

Hi my friend, Congratulations great video, creativity is extremely special
I would like to visit that railroad!
Nice, thank you.
классное видео!
West Virginia!!!💙💛💙💛💙💛
Takes me to "Petty Coat'' Junction, at the Shady Rest Hotel .... Fond memories.... Can anyone spend a night there??? That would be so cool.
I don't know but I would stay there. The tracks are probably gone though. lol
Can you believe this used to be part of the C&O mainline
They are just now finishing up connecting Cass to Durbin. This summer you can ride from Cass to Durbin by train!
Very nice :-) Like Regards Ulli
Beauty! I also subscribed to your channel.
Thank you!
Woops. I didn't realize this is part of Cass.
It is connected now but it wasn't when I was there.
The bell almost sounds like Mount Rainier Scenic Railroad #5's
cool railroad so i can spend the night there!

That wabash caboose is the old default bachman HO scale trainset caboose in real life.
Cool 🚂
when is the whole rail line from Durbin to Cass,wv will be conneted again ?
Estimated completion is sometime towards the end of 2018.
How did cass Hiestler 6 end up here? I was there 10 years ago but the train wasn't running that day. There was however a 2-truck heistler in pieces at Durbin
How is the 2truck climax doing?
The Heisler was trucked from Cass to Durbin and Climax 3 was trucked to the Cass shops last year.
Great video Brian is there any plans to run freight on the rails once the rehab is done?
Not in the foreseeable future.
What happened to the small Climax locomotive they ran on the RR like two years ago?
It is in Cass for its 15 year inspection. Someday it will be back.
Jaw Tooth are you going out to the Locus Heights & Western RR charter? It's in a few weeks.
There used to be a town there where he picked up the water.
Awesome
What railroad did this used to be part of?
C&O
I went to the Lebanon and rode the nickel plate train
I got to know two things. 1. How much were the tickets and 2. How long was the train ride
What was the bridge (?) across the creek around the 7.04 mark?? Some kind of walking path??
That's the only way people can get from a dirt road to privately owned cabin and home on the railroad side of the river.
Similar to Cass but a smaller operation?
verrie nice

You mentioned cinders, and I was thinking, did you mean the word 'soot' instead?
Timothy M it's pretty much the same thing

My mom and I were there

Awesome video, Brian
Is that railroad completely isolated (not connected to any other railroad)?
It is currently isolated. It will be reconnected back to the national rail network once the line between Durbin and Cass is completely rebuilt.
ah ok, thanks for the info
