  • Celtic Connections 2012 opening weekend is dedicated to Ishbel MacAskill.
One of Scotland's greatest ever Gaelic singers, Ishbel's sudden death in March last year left a huge hole in the music world and beyond. She was one of the most prolific, adored performers at Celtic Connections, having sung at every festival in the last 18 years - and more often than not stealing the show with her astonishing voice and charisma. The above is an excerpt from the beautiful film about her life created by Solus productions and screened on BBC Alba.

Die schönste und klarste Stimme, die Schottland jemals gehört hat. Ich liebe jeden Ton.

He said, she had a bell- like voice. Amazing comparison, but perfectly true. Velvet and steel,
she had it. Still gets my eyes to well over and my heart to wriggle in my chest with sadness and joy at the same time. May she be around forever.

think she is the best gaelic singer ive heard.
ive tried to get an mp3 download of her singing the eternal surge of the sea but the ones ive heard have a jump as if its been taken from a record.
i had better just buy the cd with it on

Seo a h-aon de glé bheag de mhìneachaidhean air an òran a tha ri ‘m faighinn air RUclips a nì ceartas ri facail a’ bhàird. Math thu, Iseabail, a bhanacharaid: cadal sèimh ort. Thathar ‘gad ionndrainn gu mór fhathast. (Translation: This is one of the very few interpretations of the song available on RUclips that does justice to the words of the bard. Well done, dear Ishbel, sleep well. You are still greatly missed.) 💐
