I love my JEL 20. It can be bright but I run the presence very low and the plexi channel is warmer than the JEL channel. It can do it all but some of the best tones are using the volume and tone controls on each guitar to adjust the gain and the cleans /light gain tones on this amp are some of the best I’ve ever experienced. I’ve owned some great amps over 35 years of playing and this is killer. Jammed with my 3 piece to try out the amp direct and it was the best tone and clarity
So, Shawn Ward at Ward Guitar Cabs order it and had it sent to me directly, but he ordered it directly from NitroGuitars.com. I believe the black is exclusive to them.
Too expensive. I rather buy a DSL20 with 2xel34 and 3 x12ax7 in pre. Clean channel close enough if you really want the plexi sound. 500 usd on Thomanns brand new and one can always find them in primo condition second hand. Or the Marshall 2525 mini jube if i want to spend a little. aprox 1000 usd. I love the mini jube :)

I’ll tell you now. Don’t buy a Friedman amp!!!! Just returned mine. Cut corners all round. No reverb, no standby switch, one channel, no footswitch,control panel printed upside down ( combo, when positioned in front of it) this is done so it the exact same unit can be used in the head version. No cover, knobs feel cheap. No good at low levels ( too loud ) and noisey. This was a pink Taco. Price a whopping 1,899.00 gdp. What a rip off. Exchanged it for a bad cat hot cat and this thing whoops it’s ass all day long ( the above) has a cover, brilliant at low levels, two channels a footswitch (on board attenuation via k master) and the quality of the build was ten times better. Friedman are cutting corners and in terms of sound and build miles behind badcat. And the tonal range and scope of the bad cat is massive, not a Friedman one trick pony.
I'm not a Friedman fanboy, but not putting an unnecessary standby switch on a 20 watt el84 amp is most definitely not "cutting corners"? I have repaired many amps from both brands and while Bad Cat's quality has improved lately...10 times better is hilariously off base.

Nice review, I was thinking about ordering a Black JEL, the Red is just not for me. Did you find this in stock new someplace or had to order it?
