I feel like it would be cool if you simplified the images into blots of colors and patterns, rather than full blown pictures. You could have range of colors from dim to bright and cold to warm and have it react to the use of different chords and extensions, dynamics, and speed.
A great way of using this would be if you would play in a way that would make the blots and patterns look a certain way - so basically using a visual rather than auditory guidance in your playing. This could really be an interesting experience, verging on synesthesia and it could lead to finding out some unexpected ways of musical expression.

    Hi Rotem,
This a very exiting idea and concept! Like the Gesamtkunstwerk intended by Wagner and others 150 years ago.
I would recommend to implement transitions since visually jumping the pictures feels very nervous and this is the opposite to your music and the visual aesthetics - the picture content. Would see a random mode so that the kind of transitions is Not predictable. Probably a threshold filter would be great, so that not every note is triggering a new picture and additionally videos would last for a minimal timeperiod allowing to get into the vid.
In the opposite fast transitions would benefit from pictures with less content like planes and structures rather than real world content - probably like Rothko.

Milkdrop 2 will still use live audio input as a source as it has, all these long years.

Switching between different images is like jumping between songs imho.
The visualazation should be connected, just like the notes in your melody. It should be something more abstract, like motionions and soft color/texture changes, like a paint.
Major melodies can be experesed with "happy" colors etc.

How come nobody thought of this before... I guess that's where the genius of it is, hiding in plain sight.

As long as The images do not flash constantly, it would give me a headache. This is fantastic 💯

can't say I have any ideas but Mussorgsky would have killed for something like this for his "Pictures at an Exhibition." Maybe bring a picture/scene to life (e.g., ballerina/ballet) - her position maybe is based on pitch and your note trigger speed = her movement speed (i.e., how fast you play legto notes = how fast she moves), and maybe polyphonic or chords would add or subtract other stage dancers based o major or minor or dominate or diminished,....

What about split screen for chords?? So cool! It reminds me of Kaki King's The Neck is a Bridge to the Body! I'd love individual themes, like - say - a "street photo" tune based on one city, a portrait tune, a short animation tune etc...

Some people think that if the music is good enough, then visuals are not necessary. I agree but, its also true that the right visuals can absolutely enhance the music. Although i would prefer a system that listens to the music, then through an algorithm or artificial intelligence provide images that fit the mood of the music that I or my group is playing. Great video as always Rotem.

...the only part you're missing would be a live performance; as in actors/dancers? hans zimmer live vibes?
    it's hard to explain LOL.

Waaaaauw! Brilliant idea! I guess a next step could be to detect harmonies instead of individual frequencies? For example triggering certain visuals when a major or minor harmony is detected?

Use the pictures to tell a story. Might be crazy hard, but done right, amazing.

super cool. you could use this to also skip to time stamps in a video and then use it like you would cut and mix an audio sample into something new rhythmically or melodically

Is it possible to have images that vary in degree of tension with notes that also vary in degrees of harmonic tension, and perhaps also other types of musical tension like repetitive or fast melodies? Visual tension can be conveyed with contrasting colors and repetitive use of lines. It would be amazing to see images conveying tension and release in parallel with your playing. It would require coding that can identify musical tension and harmonic context.

By the way I'm sure you could team up with an artist and do a mix of your music concert and their art exhibition and project their art through your playing.

The pictures are too distracting from the music. You don't need pictures to tell a story, your music does that.. If you assign the notes to just colours it wouldn't distract and It will compliment the music with visual light/mood changes
