Space Western is definitely a genre, though there isn't too much that became famous out of the genre. The ones that did are Outlaw Star, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun and the live action show Firefly(and its movie Serenity). Star Wars uses some of the Space Western styling with Han Solo, Boba Fett and the Mos Eisley Cantina.

tbf, there really isn't enough space anime in general... and usually they're melodramas or, well, gundam.

Any chance of you watching Super Eyepatch Wolf's videos on pro wrestling? Even if you’re not a fan - actually, ESPECIALLY if you’re not a fan since that makes you his target audience in that case - they’re all terrific insights into how this unique form of live action entertainment moves people long after news of it being "fake" became widespread knowledge, from the unique ability to tell 25+ year stories where the characters grow with the audience to the art of making yourself out to be a great (or terrible) villain.
He even introduces his audience to unique examples of these stories, from a pair of lovers pulled apart by a divide in their career paths and later reunited due to their sheer love for what they do, to the tale of a man forced to be something he’s not and driven mad by the audience's inability to accept him in this role he was forced to play for years.
They’re hardly touched by reaction channels beyond people who were already fans or didn’t stick around after the first two, and I’d love to see what other people think of SEW's pure passion for one of his favorite forms of media.

I remember seeing a few episodes of this when I was very young on Toonami. Back then I was never good at consistently watching something so I never got much of what was going on. My mom eventually decided that anime was evil and banned me from watching it. Now that I'm older and going to be getting my own place soon. I really want to catch up with all these shows that I haven't been able to for so long.

Actually the plot to Hot Springs Planet Tenrei is 2 fold Gene was there to get rare caster shells from actual mages and 2 it's a call back to the series is a spin off up Future Retro Hero Story as the 3 mages are involved in that series just as much. Skipping that episode outright hurts as Gene suddenly has 3 new shells that he barely explains how he got this left me confused for years till I got the Uncut series with the skipped episode. as for why it could get away with the content simple it aired in Japanese shores which has a much different floor plan of content and the Toonami version was Edited quite severely (example Melfina in the Toonami run always had a swimsuit digitally added to her when she's in the pilot bubble of the Outlaw Star)

Yes Outlaw Star, easily one of the Toonami OGs that while it may not be as super famous as Cowboy Bebop, it is still a soild show in its own right and I am glad I was able to find a box set of the whole thing. That said, I STILL call it BS that Outlaw Star never got to be in a SRW game but Cowboy Bebop got to be in T........REALLY NOW!?

I think I actually saw a couple of episodes of this, when we 1st got budget limited satellite and there was a late night anime channel ... though I think I saw the penultimate episodes.
An interesting genre and the OG anime magic bullets. Sing(ularity) guns are always amazing, regardless of franchise.
    Thanks for this reaction.

hey now! the hotsprings episode is great!
not just for the, ehem, plot..... us aisha fan fans got that memory burned in deep......
but it's got a pretty big lore dump about the magic and history of the universe.....
    also, kitty titties.
but really, you can't skip it for that reason. it's only a small bit of the episode though.

  • @ОбычныйЧеловек-е2р

Nice reaction! Super Eyepatch Wolf never disappoints, I would also suggest his video on Nathan Fielder and his Riverdale retrospective, they’re on the same level of sheer insanity as the Garfield video.

Oho, you like isekai do you? Modern or classic? I only know classic shows because a good number were mecha shows. Also, when I mean modern, I mean all isekai shows after Dot Hack Sign and when I mean classic, I mean all isekai shows older than Dot Hack Sign.
So, my suggestions are going to be Aura Battler Dunbine, the very first isekai ever aired on tv, and if you haven't seen them yet, Magic Knight Rayearth and The Vision of Escaflowne. There's also Mashin Hero Wataru which was a very, very big hit here in asia/SEA but might not be your thing. There is also the NG Knight Lamune series which is also good. There's also the Tenchi Muyo universe related show Dual! Parallel Trouble Adventure which I enjoyed. Lastly, one that is well known but I haven't seen yet is Super Dimension Century Orguss (and Orguss II). While I haven't seen the show, I do enjoy the stellar opening theme a lot. It is more of a time slip story like Inuyasha.
For non-mecha isekai, I would suggest Now and Then, Here and There but I will caution you that it is pain, that's what you'll feel watching this. There is also the wonderful Fushigi Yuugi series, if you haven't seen that yet. There is also the possibly quintesential El Hazard series. Some others shows would be Those Who Hunt Elves, Digimon (is it even possible to miss this?), the other aestheically chinese Twelve Kingdoms and the very simply titled Maze. Oh, also Leda - Fantastic Adventure of Yohko. It has space wizard David Bowie. (I already mentioned Inuyasha but I'll just reiterate here.)

My phone is kind of malfunctioning, so for now, I'll put my edit here.
I forgot to mention Open the Door which is a film just like Leda. There's also Fire Tripper but that also a time slip show akin to Inuyasha.

Someone needs to do a man hunt for Takehiko Itō (san) and convince to get back into the anime scene. That means getting back to working on new stories for outlaw star, angel links, and Spell gram (a game story he was doing).
