quick time stamps from the vid: 0:47 state of mind when reviewing pitch decks 1:46 does it matter who sends the deck? 2:19 tip 1: good framing of the problem 4:10 tip 2: who are the founders? 6:04 tip 3: what is your solution? 8:07 tip 4: traction + key metrics 12:15 tip 5: vision 👀 13:49 final notes
5:54 the question from the person sitting behind is so relevant. Many capable founders don’t even get a shot because they haven’t worked in Google or some other big techs and haven’t built something revolutionary in the past. People tend to forget how they’ve crossed the bridge once they have crossed it. But I really appreciate your work that you are doing here. 🙂
This is valuable context. We meet a lot of founders that spend way too long on things that don't matter in a pitch deck and not enough time on things that do. The irony is that a founder will take weeks trying to design the perfect pitch deck, which slows month-over-month growth which is probably the most important metric in startups.
Great tips to pitch your startup to investors. After all, we cannot ignore the voice of wisdom and experience, but rather learn alot listening to you! 😉
@5:53 You had no experience prior to Twitch but you still expect founders to be 'experts' in their fields? Same with YC -- Sam Altman had a failed startup before becoming YC's president and in their application they want you to 'demonstrate evidence of exceptional achievements'. It is funny really. I am not saying this out of a void, I actually was rejected by YC but went on to take my company to $7M ARR and eventually got funded (even with zero experience prior). I just think it's a bit hypocritical.
It's crazy how in the Silicon Valley startup world people claim not to care about pedigree, yet it's still a very weighty factor. I get it, and I certainly don't have a solution to the problem, but I agree that it is disingenuous to pretend like everyone gets a fair shake - if that were the case there wouldn't need to be a founders slide which seems like a ridiculous notion.
I like your friend, you should definitely do more videos with her. These are advises how to raise money when everything’s good, can you share some to struggling startups?
I found very interesting, and not common, the tips around the “Vision” slide. I think often startups fail to help investors visualize how big the venture could be. Are there good examples for this slide out there? 🙏 Thanks! 🙌
very great tips kan. im not building a deck, but your advice can apply to many things in life. random question but as a millionaire, how much do you tip at restaurants?
Hey Justin I have a startup product idea and I want to produce it but have 0 knowledge about the business world. Please help me in who to approach to, to make the product
Can you segment the startups based off traction - how should a 20% vs 50% MoM company pitch successfully? or a company that has high engagement but poor return rates vs a company with steady traction for 2 years not crazy growth but steady?
Wish I needed Justin in my startup just because it would be fun having conversations with him about business. Glad this channel is starting to gain more viewers
Can't know how I bumped onto this. Anyway GREAT clip ❤️. I also have been watching those similar from mStarTutorials and kinda wonder how you guys create these clips. MStar Tutorials also had cool info about similiar things on his channel.
I’m so glad I live in a timeline where Justin Kan decided to share his life and work experience.
❤️
Totally agreed.

Jen asking great questions! Helping us early stage founders by asking the question we want to ask!
She ought to speak more

And he told her to basically shut up.nice.
He went to Yale and majored in STEM. I feel like that in itself is something that would cause an investor to take notice.
You ROCK Justin.
You speak my language.
You hit all the hot spot essential in any pitch.
You're down to earth and no BS , Power to You.

your content is great man, appreciate the tips
Always love Justin kan startup videos
I always get the feel of silicon valley the sitcom but in a real form from Justin kan videos.
I like your friend, you should definitely do more videos with her.

@Ben Palaskas 😂

Thanks for the tips man! As always, I enjoy the cruisey approach 😀👊🇦🇺
Man your content is one of a kind.

Love this
Very very good video. thank you. applying this to my deck.
Appreciate the tips bro! Also when you're doing 5 day fast don't drink coffee, I found that it's way nicer fasting without coffee!
Coffee speeds up the heart rate and prob makes blood sugar levels drop. Sounds awful to fast with coffee
I just want Justins Voice
i love justin's low key deep voice humor
5:55 to 6:00 is pure fucking gold man.
Hahahahh

Big bruv Justin
Everyone asking How's Justin? No body asking Why is Justin?
Wish I needed Justin in my startup just because it would be fun having conversations with him about business. Glad this channel is starting to gain more viewers
Does these tips apply for industry-specific B2B startups as well?
Justin, how to pitch when I don't have relevant experience and this is my first project?
If you want a traction slide that does not need fundraising, why would you want to fundraise?
First comment I need a like guys that including Justin
Justin, so you a Uber driver now?
3:45 Tag me in the picture
I think that is a kia that you are driving!
Looks like a range rover
I got an Idea... like Twitch, but not Twitch.
buy a Sherpa ATV and drive it around your farm for youtube content
Who’s the girl behind?
Probably his assistant.
A profitable business with 50% month-on-month growth. Why dilute and distract yourself with fundraising?
