I really like how Fengqing's matter ended, as an innocent child, he's going to have a new adopted mother that dotes & educates him. He gets to spend time with his biological father. Danyang can rest assured knowing her relationship with her husband & her child's future is secure. Yizhen can move on from past tragedy. The only one I feel bad for is concubine Qin...hope she can adapt a child of her own later.... Also, i live for Danyang's snide remarks towards Lianfang 🔥😂

He is principled but his actions are so conflicted! Im not warming up to his character - I guess Shiyi makes him want to change and do things right? Treating his sons better, coming home more etc etc
Xu Lingyi is a general, he must go where the emperor tells him to; he can’t go home as often as he wants when he’s away in a battlefield ! Some scenes had already hinted that he spent time with his sons whenever he’s home ( Zhun knows how to do a martial art squat as soon as he was asked, LY taught his son calligraphy. Si Yu has a good relationship with his father bc he is older and has spent more time with the marquis. ) LY wants to keep peace in the family, he will let things go as long as they don’t cross the line. Yuan Niang buy from the Wen’s and accepted kickbacks which goes into her private purse. This is internal dealings which does not affect the Xu’s reputation. Because Shiyi doesn’t want to join the Wens in business, the marquis honor her wishes therefore he tells the market that the Xu isn’t in a joint venture with the Wen; if Shiyi had accepted the offer, he probably will turn a blind eye too. ( btw, Shiyi said she will buy from whoever offers the best product and price, meaning if the Wen has the lowest price + best product, she will still buy from them)

Its like the ML in yanxi palace, i really had to turn off mentally on a lot of things for me to warm up to it. The ML here had a duty to family to continue the line, he took in women as he was "forced".🤢 I just can't see why he didnt say no. He has done it - stand up to mum. Maybe its the platform ive been exposed and raised that allows full freedom of expression. Mind you im no spring chicken so not entirely naive. I just can't fathom the pressure. And maybe my brain can never compute how family can be so oppressive and ruthless. So it made it so hard to understand Marquis (emapthise maybe?). The plight of the other women could have been dealt better. because you could argue "Act 2" he does stand up for himself and Shiyi. So when it went against the grain he just didnt stick his neck out. I take your previous points and will watch it with a bit more empathy. ... when you think ML in "New Life Begins" now thats how i prefer ML to be from day1. and he was under filial pressure. One of my favorite episodes. Love that his family voices all the changes ML has undergone. However, the highlight of this episode is that contemplative moment when he realizes that he's fallen in love, which is something he's never experienced before, and it intimidates him. Everything about that scene from Wallace's acting to that absolutely beautiful instrumental score (I hope they release a full OST with the instrumental themes included). Just stunning.
Shiyi is smart, capable, calm and observant. She will slowly repair the disorganized 😊 family. The marquis saw all those qualities from her selfless and everyone in the family likes her even the general except grand madam and concubine Qiao
He's now hiding from her because when he sees her,he gets butterflies in the tummy. 😍😍He's slowly falling for her,😍😍 am sure none of the concubines have ever received a gift from him. 🎉🎉 Only shiyi can move his stone cold heart.
I really like Yizhen, she's similar to Master Jiang, whom I also like very much, as they are both gentle, kind, and have a serene gracefulness about them which calms me. Lingyi and his assistant interactions make me laugh! I love how well they get along.

I felt bad for concubine Qin but it was the best for the kid to be raised by the second madam. If he became the adoptive son of concubine Qin he would have a low status. On the contrary by being officialy adopted by the second madam he also became the adoptive son of the deceased older master, so he gained the status of a legitimate son of the Xu Family's first branch.

I like that even though there are multiple schemes, all of them aren't HUGE and emotionally draining for the viewers. I usually stay away from "palace politics" and "royal royale" dramas for that reason. I like watching dramas to relax, but some of the big ones make me agitated and tired after watching. This has a pretty good balance all around. The story is progressing very smoothly!
