Moving back to the Philippines was one of the best decisions I made. I was born and raised here in the Philippines. I moved to SF, CA around 2000, became a US citizen, then married an American and had a baby. We both felt we were going nowhere. With our salaries not catching up to the increasing cost of living and housing prices, we decided to move to the Philippines. We've been here for over 15 years. The surprising thing is we achieved the American dream in the Philippines. We now have a second child because we can afford to have a second child in the Philippines, unlike in America where we can barely afford to raise one child. We feel safe here.
Sometimes, my husband and I think about visiting SF, maybe go to the places where we used to walk, hang out, eat, shop, etc. But a lot of those places are now closed, including the deli where my husband and I met, and the streets are not clean nor safe. Feeling sad at how SF turned out. But also relieved that we're not living there anymore.

@@jamescunningham6643 I'm going to be making dome videos show casing both of those places (Bonifacio global city and Eastwood city individually) as well as s video talking about some placed I recommend expats checking out.
That said, yes housing inside the city isn't really an option, but lots of people do have dogs. Eastwood just built a little dog park and most of the condos are pet friendly. Idk about Bonifacio global city when it comes to having specified dog parks, but they do have of green space and parks. If you're looking for housing nearby you could look in the surrounding barangays of Taguig or bagumbayan. If you want something a little fancier than the norm they also have housing communities like we have in the usa here in some of the barangays.
If you prefer the city for accessibility though it's hard to choose better than either place you mentioned

But on the brighter side, we have nothing of those school shootings happening now in the US. That's scary. I guess it's because it's not easy to legally own a fire arm here in PH. Less shooting here, I can assure you that. God bless us.

Yea I can agree on both points. There are issues with both places, good and bad things. The wealth gap in The Philippines is a lot more visible in the day to day. Ask a foreigner it was, and maybe still is confusing seeing places like Bonifacio global city for example in the middle of a squatter area surrounding. Idk how to explain it, but it's really sort of mind blowing for someone who didn't grow up here to see both of those things right next to one another. The Philippines has so much potential and good people, how do they spread that wealth to other areas?

Great video. I just subscribed. I have a general question. You look about 30 at the most. Are you working out there or in another line of work? I can’t imagine you’re retired. The content in this video was great. Very informative. I’m 49 and I’m taking my first trip to Thailand in a few months, but eventually I want to do a return trip and visit different countries in that region. The Philippines looks like a very interesting stop. Keep up the good work 👍

Hey thank you! I saved up before I came and now just do some teaching and odd jobs. My plan was to make a RUclips channel when I got here, but after I got here I realized that I wasn't ready to do that and didn't want to make a channel until I actually knew what I was talking about and could offer people some good advice and content.
Thailand is beautiful and everyone that goes there days they love it, have fun. Philippines is s great destination for first time travelers also for the reasons I stated in the video plus it's an English speaking country which is another bonus
My advice for you is just do it. If you thought about it for a long time and still want to do it then just get on the plane and do it. It's always a big adventure, but you'll figure it out and you'll be happy you tried it

After living through the heat and humidity in NYC, as well as the crowding, pollution, etc. I can't imagine being in Asia, where it's like living in a sauna, like Miami. How do you feel about it? Anyway the weather was rough at first, but I feel like it's been nice. During the day it gets hot like mid 90s, but at night mid to high 70s lately which is great weather.
There's even places like Baguio city where it's usually in the mid 60s to mid 70s all day do there's some different weather options I. Philippines, but most places will be hot yea. Just make sure you have a good ac and get use to the weather slowly would be my advice

Other vloggers have successfully done it, stating the flaws about the PH culture. In fact, I just watched a vlog that went viral with 300k+ views. I'm from OHIO - and we don't have a very friendly opinion of you guys - in general. > Rude indifferent and brash is what I have mostly heard from locals where I am from - who have visited the big apple ! = Sorry - but that's reality. - - - Filipinos are quite the opposite - warm welcoming and super friendly !!! - - - Also nearby the large metro areas - just outside the city centers - you can find very cheap costs of living - perhaps 85% less than the US - if your on a tight budget. Amazing and food is about half price - or even less - if - you eat local foods !?! --- Many do survive on less than $1000/mo. over there - and some say comfortably - depending on the area. A frugal life is easy to do and it seems to agree with many westerners ?

    • @TheNYCexpat
      @TheNYCexpat  6 месяцев назад +2

And I'm sorry to say as well, but your comment is exactly what's wrong with America right. People are living brainwashed by politics and stereotypes. You even said from what you've heard from people who visited new york, so you haven't been there yourself, but your first thought was to open the comment saying something negative about it? Please help me understand that mindset, what's the point of saying something like that? I would just suggest that you get to know someone before you make a judgement about them, otherwise you're just being ignorant. There are good people and bad people in every place in the world, that's the reality of it. People need to stop trying to categorize everyone based on location, politics, skin color, etc and start getting to know people as individuals before making their judgements because everyone is different. That goes for you, me, and anyone else in the world, so don't take it personally.
Anyway, back on topic, as for prices, yes a lot of stuff is cheaper here and if you're living like a local than significantly cheaper. In the barangay you can get a meal for around a dollar equivalent. On the flip side if you want to eat some brands of foods you miss back home they also have western brands in the stores, but for the majority of things you're actually going to be paying more because of import.
There's a lot of islands here and places to live, I would probably say there's something for everybody.

Hey bro, thank you! As far as the one wheel I actually bought it here. There's a little community of one wheelers here in manila we even actually have done some group rides. Just look up onewheel manila.
You can't take an xr or gt on a flight because the batteries are too big. You're technically supposed to be able to take an original pint, but it depends on the security there and what they feel like that day it seems like according to people's posts online lol

Thanks sir for your appreciation of the Philippines I know majority of the Filipinos who have watched your videos are glad that you're not having a superior mindset over Asians especially Filipinos because at the end of our lives we'll faced judgment of our deeds whether good or bad. Majority of the ameriacans are hypocrite underestimated Filipinos as least kind than them what a toxic mindset of those prideful individual living in the USA.

Of course. I'm a guest in your country and I treat people with the same respect that I want to be treated with. Humans should not look at each other as above or below, were all here sharing the world together and getting through life how we can.
I appreciate you watching and I do also appreciate the kindness and support from a lot of the viewers. Those others who think they know me because they have a stereotype in mind are wrong, but those people won't keep watching so it doesn't really matter. And if they do keep watching they will learn to see who I am.
Thank you po, let's spread love and some positivity on the internet instead of using it to be negative all the time like a lot of people do.
