That's a nice review mate. I've been waiting for the cordless to be released, but if it won't take bigger batteries that's a bit of a PIA. Not because of runtime, just because the 5.2Ah ones are the goto for everything else. On another note, grab yourself a Metabo Bluetooth cordless control unit for any other vac. It works on a vibration sensor so is also auto on/off at the hose. Can also be manually switched like the FT.

Thanks for the heads-up re the Metabo unit. I hadn't come across that one before, only 3rd party no-name Amazon specials that often have safety questions leveled at them. I'll check it out.

Hi Keith. I've had no issues with the extractor and when I did need to change a bag, it was way cleaner than my old Bosch as the Festool is an M class with a bag and the Bosch is an L class with no bag. Battery life hasn't hit me too badly as most of the time I'm doing stop-start and not continuous. Occasionally I have to wait for the 2nd set of batteries to finish charging, and it would be nice if I could use bigger batteries, but it's never really slowed me down too much as I just switch to something else for a few minutes and get back to it. Overall still very pleased and glad I bought it. Hope that helps.

Don't you think that it'll take too many bags for woodworking? They are very small and quite expensive. I have Bosch one and it is not that messy, but no bags are a plus for me. I can clean it every time I want without waiting to fill the bag. I also have big Kracher like yours Nilfisk and I also use it without filter bags (but with a plastic bag so it is easy to dump off 15+ kg of dust)

How long the Festool bags last is one of the things I'm monitoring as I use the extractor day to day, so I don't have a definitive answer for that just yet. But yes, it's one of the CTMC-SYS aspects that I need to keep an eye on and I'll likely do a follow-up video on how I get on.
If I'm in the workshop, I'll use the Nilfisk or the CTM MIDI, so the CTMC SYS (as the Bosch before it) doesn't have to take the larger volumes of dust coming from bigger machines. Rather, it gets used either in the house or outside where the mains units are too awkward to take and the tasks there tends to generate fine dust (like sanding), but not vast amounts of it.
As portability is one of my main needs for the cordless extractor, I didn't even consider the larger Festool cordless units so I did know the smaller bags were something I would have to deal with.
With the Bosch I found that although the cleaning of the bottom drum could be mitigated to some extent by encasing the drum in a large bag before emptying it, I had no such luck with the main filter. It gets absolutely caked in dust and tapping it against a hard surface while it is inside a bag dislodged very little dust. The pleats just clung onto the dust until I cleaned them out with a small brush. That sent the dust everywhere, meaning I do it outside. Windy days just made it worse.
Replacing the main filter each time would be far more expensive than changing a filter bag and because the Bosch is an L class only, there is no warning to tell you that air movement is impeded by the filter being clogged, so I had to do it each time and just accept that it was a very messy job that I really didn't want to do. That's why I decided I wanted M class and a filter bag.
Maybe I leave the Bosch too long between emptying, meaning the filter gets clogged more often.
Don't get me wroung, I'm not getting rid of the Bosch, it will just be relegated to general cleanup jobs that don't include fine wood dust.
@@roughcutprince I have a tip for you. You can use a bigger vacuum to clean a smaller one. First dump main dust from the container. Then inside a Bosch dust container shake a filter while having bigger vacuum on. Your Nilfisk should have enough power to leave no dust behind. I do the same with Karcher and it is quite safe to do. Or just bang some tree with the filter outside. It works fine. No need to brush it (with brush you are making it more prone to hold dust, it is actually printed in some similar filter manual)

How does it work with the ctva preseparator. I have this separator and it’s great with midi vac
@@jrichardson6 the pre-separator does reduce airflow as all pre-separators and cyclones do, so the stronger the suction of the extractor the better.
As the pre-separator has a 50mm port to connect to the extractor, you would need a 50mm to 35mm adapter to attach the provided CTC-SYS hose and the inner diameter of the CTC-SYS hose is also only 25mm, reducing the pre-separator air path from a surface area of around 20 square cm to around 5 square cm.
So all in all, the dust extraction will suffer noticeably and I expect the result will be disappointing and not up to the standard of the MIDI and pre-separator. It may even trigger a low airflow warning from the M version of the CTC-SYS.
Personally, I haven't tried the pre-separator with the CTC-SYS as, apart from the reduced performance, it would impact the CTC-SYS portability too much for me.
you seriously didn't check the runtime? What is the point of the review then.
The runtime is not just dependent on how long it takes the machine to deplete the batteries, but also on how long it takes to recharge depleted batteries. Have enough batteries available and runtime is limitless. But that’s likely not practical for most.
The documentation says how long it takes to recharge empty batteries and it lies if the batteries are freshly depleted. It also doesn’t say that when the charger says a battery is back to 100% it also lies. So if you’re expecting the Festool documents to tell you everything you want to know, you’re going to wind up disappointed. Do your due diligence by referring to real world reviewers that have taken the time to find out the truth, you’ll be informed instead.
So to inform is the point of the review. If you found the review helpful, as may have, it’s done its job well, as it did.
