THERE IS NO STABILISATION APPLIED TO THE ONBOARD VIDEO FOOTAGE - I find that a well set up Dart XL is a very stable wing style aircraft.
This past week I got the Dart XL out from the attic, dusted it down and put some electronics inside for the first time in over a year.
With iNav 3.0.1 on a Matek F405 flight controller, this thing flies amazing. It's really a cruiser but the location I fly in doesn't really allow for long range cruising so I just pottered around the airfield for a few LiPos.

Dude, you have a great flying spot. Your own runway - very cool!
Haha, I wish it was actually my own... but I have to share it with anyone else who uses the public rights of way that go through it 😎
Great plank. Come see us. HertfordshireFPV
Thanks mate. One of your guys messaged me a while back about coming up that way for a flying sesssion. I'll get back in touch soon! cheers
Good video thanks, I'm trying to setup inav autolaunch on my dart xl, the link you provided says has been deleted. Thanks again
Ah yes, apologies. This is an old video, I don't have those files anymore
nice.. cool you get to use an old airfield.
I know right!? ✈🛩
@@grim-upnorth where is it (i know it's in the uk durr :D ) i'm assuming it's an old RAF field ?
@@WX4CB old WW2 RAF base called Wisley in the south of England 👍
@@grim-upnorth NICE
yikes - having to pull & reinsert the xfire module sounds exciting!
glad you didn't toast the Tx's in the goggles running them without antennas.
nice footage though - hope to get down there & fly with you soon :)
Haha, yeah once the dart was in failsafe and returning to home, I was confident it would stay like that till I sorted the crossfire out.
Will let you know next time I'm heading down there 👍
Thanks Charlie !
Question: How to have Loiter after autolaunch ??? It's so easy to seat on a chair and have a time to put googles on your face !!
Do you enable à switch RTH one more with Fly mode, autotune, and disarmed, before take off ?
Thank you very very much from France !
Fly safe.
Hi!
At 1:40 I put the plane into the flight mode I want it to be after the launch sequence is complete.
In this case I set up a switch for loiter mode. 👍🏻
@@grim-upnorth Tanks! Then, loiter is enable à the end of launch sequence, okay ! But not over your vertical head (Home position by gps. ). Regards .
Charlie...I use my Crossfire tx antenna vertically,on kwad and tx....never failsafed.
Plus you have the Immortal T vertically on the Dart.Strange you failsafed...any ideas why?
Sorry, I did a bad job of explaining. When I first launched, the tx antenna was horizontal and the rx antenna on the plane was vertical.
Mid flight, I realised this and twisted the antenna (lazy of me) instead of loosening the SMA and doing it properly, so that the tx antenna was also vertical to match the aircraft.
It was during me fiddling with the antenna, that I had the rx failsafe, only it didn't reconnect until I power cycled the crossfire tx module by taking it out and re-seating it.
@@grim-upnorth Ah thx!.. risky manoeuvre for sure.. haha..(been in the same situation as you before, but I didn't try to realign )..still you got her down ok...that's the main thing.👍🍻
What do you do with the cable from the ESC BEC? nothing? run the vtx?
If you pause at 0:49 you can see that the throttle cable (black/red/white) from the ESC goes into the flight controller, so the flight controller can tell the ESC to throttle up. but if you look even closer, you can see that I've snipped the red wire so only the GND and Signal wires are connected.
You are correct in assuming that I do nothing with the 5v from the BEC of the ESC. The flight controller is its own power supply and distribution board, so all the power comes from the main battery. Hope you have a good day 🙂
@@grim-upnorth Ahh, yes. I see that now. I do the same. Thanks for sharing the content.
Hey mate,
Nice flight! I am jealous.
can you send me your diff from iNAV? I am quite interested in your PIDs and your Autolaunch settings. Would be VERY helpful!!
Thanks for help :-)
Thank you, DIFF added to description 👍
Also here: tiny.cc/mydiff
I would love to see your autolaunch settings also, but the link provided will not open, says file has been deleted.
Best intentions but you left it in the photo-copya
haha
I'm guessing you loosened the SMA connector as you twisted it vertical? Hence causing a FS?....It's amazing what can go wrong eh?...lol
I wish I had a Wisley Airfield to play on. The Fun Police have stopped all my FPV activity. BMFA Clubs around me just ban FPV, selfish pricks...🤔😳🇬🇧
Yes I think so 👍
