Yes they did. They ALWAYS favored minorities provided them with modern schools with education in English. Gave civil government positions to minorities so that the majority had no power . No uprisings for human rights or freedom suppressed that way. Banned colonials speaking their own languages in schools and government offices to the point that their ancestral languages have become almost extinct as in Canada, US, Australia etc. That is how they “ kept the lid” to avoid people opposing their rule by instigating animosity against people of their colonies to fight against each other amongst themselves based on race, religion or caste. People who lived together in harmony disregarding differences became enemies and areas where they lived were divided on racial and religious lines. People were made to move from ancestral homes to other areas based on religion or race! It happened in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan. Kashmir is still unresolved.
