    Sorry for the less-than-desirable audio. My main mic went kaput, and I had to fall back on an old crappy backup. I ordered a replacement, but it hasn't arrived yet, and RUclips's algorithm shows no mercy, so I couldn't wait any longer!

    I used to love E2B, but it's an absolute nightmare for updating and configuring. It seems like every single disk image has to be tweaked in some way to work and menus are painful to customize. But it worked.
    Then I met Ventoy and never looked back.

    Better utility for this sort of thing... Ventoy Once you've created your Ventoy USB all you need to do is just drop in the isos you want to use.

    Nice video! I never recommend that you change the boot order in the BIOS/Firmware settings to boot from USB. Some systems treat the first drive as the 'boot' drive and you can find that boot code (for DOS or XP or Windows or Linux) gets installed to the USB drive instead of the drive you are installing the OS onto (esp. if Legacy\BIOS booting)! The best thing to do is to leave the first drive configured as the one that is your usual internal 'boot' drive and then use the BIOS Boot Selection key (e.g. F8 or F9 or F10 or F11 or F12 or ESC - depends on the BIOS) to display a pop-up menu of bootable devices - then select the USB drive as the one you want to boot from for that one time. Often there will be two USB drive choices - one will be a Legacy\MBR boot option and the other will be a UEFI boot option. Choose the one appropriate for the way your system normally boots to your OS.

    • @baylinkdashyt
      @baylinkdashyt 3 года назад +1

      Also: if you're doing Windows installs from the e2b drive, having the BIOS boot order start with the HDD means that phase 2 (and possibly 3) of the install will proceed automagically, which is good.
      Finally, having the HDD first in the boot order protects you from people leaving bootable devices plugged into your USB jacks, purposefully or otherwise...

    • @idogaming3532

      That's not how it works. It will try to boot from USB, but it won't install to it. Also ventoy is better. Stop spreading FUD.

    One other side note on AV scanners:
    You do need to be careful if you're a) copying tools to a bootstick, or b) copying them from an old one to a new one, and also c) using your bootstick to run your tools on a booted Windows machine: AV scanners can (and will) spot those files -- if you use them, and sometimes even if you don't -- and either quarantine or delete them, even when you don't want them to. My NIRsoft collection gets hit by this pretty regular. Keep the ZIP files on your stick too, if you have tools in that category, just in case.
    It's just like lockpicks: they're Just Tools; they have no inherent polarity, positive or negative.

    • @nilpo
      @nilpo Год назад

      I used locked drives because of this. Can't delete from a read-only volume! Just make sure you use a USB with a physical read/write switch and you're all good.

    Suggestion: if you only run *one* copy to the stick at a time, you probably won't have to do a wincontig at the end; on a freshly formatted stick, it should copy everything in successive block, as long as there's only one active copy process.
    Also note that if you're using Windows copy, you probably need to have "show hidden and system files" on in explorer, to make sure you don't miss things. I usually use FastCopy portable for this, which -- when Elevated -- solves that problem automatically.

    • @steve6375
      @steve6375 3 года назад

      Fast copy utilities often create multiple streams when copying files, this causes the file to be fragmented. I don't know if FastCopy does this, but it is something to watch out for.

    • @baylinkdashyt
      @baylinkdashyt 3 года назад

      @@steve6375 I'll have to look into that. I haven't seen any evidence that it does that, but I can see what you mean. Mostly, I think their meaning of fast is just that it bypasses a bunch of OS buffering and that sort of thing.

    • @steve6375
      @steve6375 3 года назад

      @@baylinkdashyt XCOPY creates multiple streams, for instance, unless you override the default behaviour with a command line switch. Downloading a file from the internet using Chrome also splits the file.

    I am no techie, but recall reading 2 years ago that Legacy was the older and UEFI the newer. So why are so many software companies ignoring UEFI if it will replace Legacy? I must be mistaken somehow.

    • @LowDoughTech
      @LowDoughTech  2 года назад +1

      You are correct. UEFI is newer. E2B hasn't ignored UEFI, it was available in the older build, it just had more steps to get it up and going. This new method makes it a lot easier to work with everything. The UEFI instructions are something that I had overlooked in my old instructions.
