I don't know how many of you are 40-50yo or more.... but this is the same way we used to make the key chains out of flat plastic string, there was also another one that used 6 strings.
Thank you for the tutorial. 🤩I've always wanted to make a lei like this, however, I'm a visual learner and reading the directions from a book was super confusing. LOL I had to make some minor adjustments to make it longer and easier to weave the ribbon. Material use: 3/8" Picot Double faced Satin Ribbon. The diameter of this lei will be 1". 1. Used 4 strands 7 yds each, I did not fold in half, instead, I measured approximately 9 inches and tied all four ribbons in a knot for the tail. 2. I wrapped each strand at opposite end around a credit card and then slide if off the card and secured with a rubber band so it wasn't super long and made weaving easier. 3. The final length winded up being approximately 29"-30" unstretched, but could stretch out to to 45"-50" but will eventually shrinks back to it's unstretched length. 😔 4. I would recommend at least at least 8-9 yds, but that's just my opinion. 5. This lei takes a long time to make, especially if you're a stickler for detail, so binge watch a good show and have the wine ready. 😃 I wanted to post a picture, but I don't know how. 🙃
Oh Ok. That actually seems pretty easy. Considering the process is pretty much the same as the key chains I made as a child out of those strechty, plastic, very colorful strings. I'm unsure of what their exactly called, because people refer to them by different named. Thank you for sharing. I definitely wanna see if it's possible to do all the other patterns I did for my key chains, but with the ribbon now.
I made a 6 ribbon piece with a smaller width ribbon, but I did what they called a DNA stitch and my nephew loved it. Actually someone made him the one that you’re making, but he said mine was his favorite, maybe because he had a few of the box leis, I really don’t know.
Do you think it would be possible to create a tutorial on the other lei that your created I read your comment on how if you wanted it to be longer to not fold the ribbon but having a hard time figuring out how to start it
Totally reminds me of those boondoggle keychains or bracelets. So cool, it is quite a beautiful lei. I wonder if it would still be the same technique that you would be using if you where to use 4 colors of ribbons as well. I will have to look at other videos to find out.
Mahalo for sharing! I’m making money leis right now. Patience is needed when doing this form of art. But the product is beautiful! Hope you are well. Aloha Liann
What is material for ribbon you use . I bought pole tester but the material is soft so is hard to hold. Does your ribbon has same underneath and overhead which mean one side is smoother than onther
I did use the whole yard of ribbon I just folded it in half so it equaled out to 5 yards instead of 10. Keep in mind this ribbon is stretchy so the more you stretch it out the more it will get longer, but if you want a longer ribbon I would think to not fold the ribbon in half and just make it the same way if that makes any sense :) Hugs for watching!
Thank you! You can actually stretch it out to be longer if you’d like but it’s a decent length if it’s not stretched too much if that makes sense 😀. Hugs for watching!
I made double braided ribbons leis for my daughter’s recent college graduation this past Monday! I wish I had seen this. I would’ve definitely made it for her. I love it! What length should you use if you want the leis to be longer? Is 10 ft good enough?
Hi Darlene! Congrats to your daughter! So these ribbons were 10 yards each I just folded in half. You can make it without folding it but it may turn out too long but you can definitely cut it down. Hope this helps. Hugs 🤗 for watching!
Hi there!! You can use a longer roll of ribbon. I know majority of ribbons sold at craft stores might not be long enough but I’ve purchased longer ribbon from Amazon and there’s different sizes as well. 👍🏼
Hi there! The ribbons I used are 5/8 of an in 10 yards each. I didn’t use the roll. I would recommend you to keep trying on the lei to see how long you would want it to be before closing it off on the ends. And also if you use the same type of ribbon it is stretchy but it will bounce back to a shorter form. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions, I’d be more then happy to help. Thanks bunches for watching! 🤗
When I was pregnant🤰 with my daughter a lady randomly give me one of this collars!! I felt so special🥺🥰 I was wondering if someone knows the meaning of this collars so I can tell my daughter?? Thank you and advance

That’s what I was thinking about !!!!

Awesome! Glad you gave this a try! 🤗 for watching!

Tiffany Grey it reminded me of lanyards that I made in my after school program!
In my years of going to summer camp they've been called lanyard string, spaghetti string, or scooby/scoobie string
This reminds me of bracelets made with plastic wires, thank you for the tutorial
I used to make these plastic lanyards a long time ago, they were my fave to make :) Hugs for watching!
It is.
This reminds me making lanyards. Thank you so much for this!
Yesss! That was my inspiration! It was so fun to make! Thanks a bunch for watching! 🤗

So pretty. It’s like boondoggle but with ribbon.

Favorite video for making leis 💯💯💯 If I wanted to do 3 ribbons, would that be possible? How?
Thanks for the tutorial! I never made ribbon lei before, just candy or money hehe :P I will try this out for the grads coming up :D
You’re welcome!!! Yaaay! Congratulations to the grads!!!!

Thanks! I think it may work! Happy crafting!

Very beautiful craftsmanship. Congratulations to the grad. XOXO
Thank you so much! Hugs for watching!
Nice work! Thank you for sharing.
Hi, have you ever made the same tape of lai but with three colors?
I know it’s intended for graduation but I would totally use it in a homecoming mum
If I want to make the longer and thinner lei, what should be the width and length of the ribbon?
So this one is 5/8 in ribbon so anything smaller would work but anything skinnier might be too thin in my opinion.
oh wow that is beautiful!!!!! Great job!
Thanks so much Carla! Hugs for watching!

Wow so beautiful
I’m doing to make one of these for my brother! How long does it typically take you to make one lei?
Can you make other styles of ribbon leis
Beautiful! Is it possible to add money in the weave?
Pretty pretty!
Did you use the entire bulk of ribbon you bought? I would want to make a longer one but I would like to know if I would need to buy more ribbon then
I did use the whole yard of ribbon I just folded it in half so it equaled out to 5 yards instead of 10. Keep in mind this ribbon is stretchy so the more you stretch it out the more it will get longer, but if you want a longer ribbon I would think to not fold the ribbon in half and just make it the same way if that makes any sense :) Hugs for watching!
Very nice which type ribbon pls tell me ribbon name
If you need to take a break can you just stop or will it unravel?
No you can totally take a break Hehehe it won’t come apart 👍🏼
This is awesome! How does it look on since it’s short?
Thank you! You can actually stretch it out to be longer if you’d like but it’s a decent length if it’s not stretched too much if that makes sense 😀. Hugs for watching!
Can you use smaller ribbon? Also is it possible to attach flowers and butterfly money to something like this?
Hi!
You can definitely use smaller ribbon. Sure! I don’t see why you couldn’t add money flowers or butterflies 👍🏼
Thanks for watching!!
Love it!
How long did it take you?

Beautiful, great tutorial thank you 💖
Thank you! Hugs for watching!
what size of ribbon did you use for the smaller one at the end, the green and gold one? And how many yards?
I used the same size as this one but I just tightened the boxes for a thinner lei. They are both 5/8 in of 10 yards
love4creativity thank you!
Thank You for sharing, My friend
Beautiful👍
Love it
Thank you & Thanks for watching!
Thank you for tutoring it.
I'm sorry but you made the box knot so much more difficult than it needs to be...
Lost....🤨
same 😭
Okay this was so relaxing to watch! Now I want to try making a lei! Hahaha but i have a feeling I'm going to waste ribbons.
Do you have PO box??
This is the same technique as making a plastic lanyard for those who need help.
Why was this one thicker and shorter?
Hi! Not sure what part you’re talking about?
Wow
How do I make the Lei longer?
Hi there!! You can use a longer roll of ribbon. I know majority of ribbons sold at craft stores might not be long enough but I’ve purchased longer ribbon from Amazon and there’s different sizes as well. 👍🏼
Whats the length of the ribbon pls

When I was pregnant🤰 with my daughter a lady randomly give me one of this collars!! I felt so special🥺🥰
I was wondering if someone knows the meaning of this collars so I can tell my daughter??
Thank you and advance
Not easy for me to follow… the beginning is super important and I was completely lost… I wish you had gone over it again… darn
I have never been more frustrated
Awwww sorry, trust you’ll get it after awhile it’s confusing at first but it’ll come together! 👍🏼
