Your oil caps are not listed on Amazon. eBay has them for $139.99 for a stinking plastic cap with a brass fitting through it. I made my own from the proper filter cap with a hole drilled through the top and the hole tapped, then a fitting inserted into the hole in the cap. That cost me under $20
I was thinking of try this have my old cooler heck yeah Hey David I can't get my email to go through have a noticable tick when wormed up replaced all rockers and lifters still tick checked all twice ugh WTH no signs of issues what am I missing oil pressure ?? What should I do or look for ?
After my JKUR's 3.6 ate its rings I'm wanting to put some form of oil pressure gauge on it. Seems this is the best - only - answer, to avoid ripping and tearing anyway. Excellent vid, thanx for the refresher!
Havent heard of anyone doing this....seems possible until you need to remove the oil filter for service. Not sure what the long term affect might be. Might work well for testing but there might be a design issue that might cause issues if the engine is driven a long time with it on. I dont know that it would but its worth mentioning just incase.
Eh, if quality parts are used shouldn't be a problem. That said Id not leave home without the 'stock' cap on hand; in case something does go sideways. In my case Id likely go with an electronic setup; one to not have oil lines going into the cab and two to deal with the wider than normal pressure sweep you describe.
I would like to install a mechanical gauge in my Jeep so I could monitor my oil pressure better. This would be the ticket to tying in instead of removing intake. But I have to install an oil cooler anyway, so I just have to decide whether to tie in to under intake or to tie into the cap, but thanks for revealing this option.
Those adapters look like they would save a significant amount of time. Probably safe to assume the oil pressure sending unit / sensor is a switch that reads either open or closed, rather than a transducer which could communicate a relative pressure back to the ECU. Seems like a shame that there are four tire pressure monitoring sensors in wireless communication, but we can't read oil pressure from the cluster or scan tool.
Great video and very informative. I noticed that there is a plastic plate under pressure w a spring where the filter is installed in the 2014 oil filter cap. Is there a torque spec for the oil filter cap when installing into oil cooler housing?

The reading on the cluster is a calculated reading....not the actual reading. The cluster reading prevents complaints from owners and isnt the actual live reading of the oil pressure. Checking the oil pressure has its place at times in the diag....not all the time for sure but from time to time. On the older 2011-2013 the oil filter housing had a bypass valve so that when the filter becomes clogged due to that person who never changes their oil....it will open up and still allow oil to flow, that wouldnt have an affect on the oil pressure at that point and would allow dirty oil through the engine which I guess is better then none lol. Overall.....theres more then one way to skin a cat....checking the pressure is pretty simple but requires specials tools that need to be purchased. I can see both sides of the fence when it comes to checking for sure. What ever works best and doesnt cause throwing alot of parts at the vehicle is fine with me lol.
So, if you have oil pressure pressures above the minimum at each rpm range except the highest, do you think that would be electrical or mechanical? Your videos are great, thank you for all your help! I can't wait for your oil pump replacement video!
If your not having issues and only reading the pressure on the dash.....I wouldnt worry to much. The reading the dash is a filtered reading and not the actual pressure. The pump has a mechanical pressure relief valve incase the pressure gets to much and the pump had a solenoid to modify the pressure at different rpms. I do need to work on that video soon for sure. So many cars.....so many videos lol.
MotorCity Mechanic it was actual readings on a pressure guage, like your video showed. Had a P06DD code, I made the dealership do the pressure tests. I replaced the oil sending unit before I took it in (thanks for that video too!)
My 2019 Ram 1500 classic tradesman 3.6 pentastar is set up with yellow e85 cap would you run e85 or regular gas with 10% ethenal. What’s best to make this engine last longer
Another awesome video! We can also get the oil pressure from the OBDII port. Is this a trusted reading? I have a '21 3500 camper van and am using a Scangauge3 to monitor oil pressure along with other important temps.
Hi David, not only did the bypass valve break on my 2013 Wrangler... the plastic rod it sits in, popped out of the housing along with another larger spring from the bottom end. It doesn't appear broken, do you know if it can simply be popped back in with applied pressure and a click? Thanks
I havent had any luck reinstalling it....each time I had to replace the entire housing. I even tried cutting one apart to see how to reattach but no luck. Thanks for watching and for the question. Subscribe and check out my other videos.
One question that comes to mind.... how as I understand it...oil pressure can be quite an array of different issues.... how do we pin point the actual problem once we do the pressure test. Would it be safe to assume it's the oil pressure sensor, if everything checks out fine?
Greetings friend I am in Orlando Florida and I work only jeep wrangler and I am interested in the set of caps to measure the oil pressure is very good that opposition thanks
I have another question I just do it I change the oil pressure sensor been replaced but the problem the light check Engine is still on and the car drive okay and smoothie? This best question.
Great video and will come in handy. If you have a chance what is your opinion on this. 2013 Town and Country has rattle inside front valve cover at 1500 rpm and also when engine drops from higher rpm to lower. We replaced timing set and lifters and all rockers are good. I do get the occasional P06DD. Could a bad sensor cause this?
Typically the P06DD is a bad oil pump. Each time I have come across this code.....I replaced the oil pump and no code returning. I havent noticed a noise with it however. Thanks for asking and make sure to subscribe.
I love your vids bro. I have a 2013 Chrysler 200 Limited 3.6L and whenever I have a problem I try to find one of your videos. Is there a way to get easily access to all your 3.6L videos instead of scrolling and finding the correct one?
Real nice videos, great camera work, very thorough. Binge watching trying to get some insight on a 2013 Dodge Journey. Getting a very loud noise at idle especially when ac is on, cooling fan is on, or steering turned to full lock. Listened to all pulleys nothing. Ran without SERP belt quitter but still there at idle. Oil pressure as per the info screen in the dash is always falling low at idle but lowest I see is 18 psi. Higher rpm no noise. Runs fine on the road but noise is back at stops esp with ac on. There is a small pool of oil at the base of the filler neck??? Thanks for your time
Hey David. Was thinking could you not just buy the adapter for the 2011 threw 2013 and use it on the 14 on up and not use the oil filter just for testing the oil pressure then after just install the original cap with filter after?
Hey motor city man can I use one of these test caps to connect a pre oiler device to so when I start my car each morning it wont have to dry start and rattle till oil pressure gets up.thanks in advance man .I bet a lot of folks would like to know this
Had high oil pressure on my 2013 ram 1500 3.6l before I changed my oil cooler. Had the new cooler in about a week and it’s back to reading 99psi again. Any reason this is happening since the oil cooler had a brand new oil pressure switch on it?
Hey there fellow wrench turner. I have my buddies 13 Avenger with this 3.6. It has the P0523 code. This followed a failed Oil Cooler Assembly. I replaced the Oil Cooler and the oil sending unit due to the plug terminal spinning freely in the housing. My question for you is this, I am about ready to test the oil pressure, Thanks for this video, I am about to own a few more tools. If the oil pressure is low or not correct I would assume the pump is going bad. As I hear a short clunk clunk from lower engine when starting cold. It quiets down and the engine runs REALLY good. Do you have a video or links to information on how difficult swapping out the oil pump is? Would I have to remove the timing cover as it appears by the design of the pump. Thank you in advance.
I just had the rockers, lifters, and camshafts replaced. The tech said that it had low oil pressure and I supposedly I needed a new engine. This is of course after I spent $4500 on the work. I took it to a stealership, so yes I know I got ripped off. I drove it home and the oil pressure was in normal limits. Would this give a more accurate reading. I’m not sure what he meant by low oil pressure. He also said it needed new rod bearings. I’m not sure how he determined that since they’re on the bottom of the block.
Stealership is spot on! ❤ I'm going in the biz... Shiiiz I'm practically asc certified from the school of youtube anyway. No cap regulations, name your price based on how you woke up and no reprocussions
Do you still recommend putting the cap on first before the threaded adapter on a 2014 (Wranger) with the original filter housing (knowing they have been known to fail)?
0REDSOX7 I sure do....snugging is all that is needed when installing the cap. A lot of the times it gets over tightened and also the issues I have seen with the 2014 appears to be a design issue with that assembly that causes a leak.....not the cap being tightened . Thanks for asking and for watching
Hey there, Great info! Thanks for putting it out. I have a question on the Chrysler 3.6 Pentastar. When I punch it or accelerate hard in my 2016 town and country the oil PSI just drops (to like 12 psi) and the check engine light comes on. After getting off of it, it still drops to like 3 psi. I don't believe these are actual readings but obviously concerned. When I shut it down then re start the engine if comes right back up to normal. runs at about 37 psi at 70 MPH. New filter and oil as well. Has no impact on the situation. Any Ideas? Thanks in advance.
It seems the one place I know of is out of stock. I want to play around and see if I can make one myself....just need to find the time. Thanks for the comment and feedback about the video.
@@MotorCityMechanic I thought the same. Can I modify my cap? I am sure it is possible, but without great tooling, the cap itself would leak pressure. I just want my jeep back on the road.
La presión del aceite al ralentí será de 4 psi y a 3000 RPM será de 25 a 80 psi. Gracias por la pregunta y por ver el video. ¡Asegúrate de suscribirte!
hello!! I have a Dodge journey 3.6 and the appeared the code P066DD, engine oil pressure sensor. the car is working normally, I would like tô know if there is any problem using the car with this code? what should be the repair to this code?
I also am looking for the Front wheel drive video. I have a 2011 Avenger with the 3.6 engine. Getting code P06DD after oil & filter change shortly after getting car. Have seen that could be pump, sensor, or need to have the ECU reprogrammed. I want to find out exactly what the oil pressure is.
If you want an even easier way, at least on the 2011 Grand Cherokees. On the middle odo display go to vehicle info, then scroll down to oil pressure. Not sure how accurate it is but works for me lol.
The reading on the display is filtered and not the actually pressure. The pressures vary a lot and if a driver saw how much on the display if it wasn’t filtered they would think something is wrong. So it’s more of an average and not to be relied on for diag of the system
I don’t know if you’ll be able to see this but my wk2 engine bay in like sprayed with some red/pink liquid(not oil like) dried like water. My check engine light popped up but is giving me a code for a bad oil pump.. does that sound right?
I have to think that you might have two separate issues. I would recommend getting that leak found and fixed first. Sounds like possibly coolant. Then once thats fixed.....further diag for the oil pump code will be needed. Thanks for asking and for watching. Make sure to subscribe.
MotorCity Mechanic I JUST saw this !!! It was actually the thermostat housing.. it cracked and leaked the coolant everywhere... Texas heat ran my engine dry or low of coolant and was consuming oil till the level got low and threw a code on my dash.. replaced the thermostat housing, did a oil change, added new coolant and it’s running 100% again..
Hey I have a 2014 Grand Cherokee and at idle on a hot day after going for a short drive I’ve seen my oil pressure on the dash drop down to about 13PSI. I’ve even seen it drop down to 10PSI after coming off of the highway. The truck has barely 70k miles. I know the gauge on the dash isn’t always accurate but should I be concerned by this? I also hear a slight ticking from the motor and it isn’t from the fuel injectors even though it is a direct injection engine. Thanks for the help
Oil pressure on the cluster is not actual oil pressures. People would complain if they saw the actual pressures because they can be in the single digits at times and over 100 psi other times. Thats a big difference and actually normal but teach the general public that is a bit hard....so the cluster readings are filtered for that reason. As far as noise....it depends, its one of those things I would have to hear.
That ticking is the rocker arm going. It is not a hard fix, but if you are here then I am sure you can do it. This is a common problem with the 3.6 Pentastar. Good luck!
I have a 2014 ram 1500 3.6. Oil pressure was topping out and throwing a code for a bad sensor. I changed the sensor. Now at startup I get 80 psi until oil warms up then every goes to normal. Goes to 20psi after five minutes of idling. Should I be worried about that high pressure at start up? It’s still summer so it’s not cold.
If your not getting that code returning then I would not be concerned. That pump is electronically controlled as far as output and it will vary alot at different RPMs being that it uses that oil to change the cam timing. So for now.....I say drive it and not worry unless you get a returning code. Thanks for asking and for watching. Make sure to subscribe.
I always thought a higher psi at startup is normal? I got p06da code and switched the sensor since the mechanic said to do so and it wasn’t the sensor. When I drive it doesn’t really go very high, goes to 90 if I’m gassing it hard And it’s about to shift gears but Iv always though that was normal, in general at normal driving conditions it’s like 70 or down to 50 since I’m cruising .
Che Kelley Great eyes! Yes it was....I have been using them for about a week now and I like the way they feel in my hands. I recommend them to anyone wanting a nice set of wrenches for sure! Thanks for watching and for the question
That pressure is normal depending on the conditions....the hemi is the same way. I would say it might not help but it seems the main issue is the material used in making the rocker arms or their design. They have revised the rockers a few times to help eliminate that issue. Time will tell.
Have another question Dave. When you pull the intake to change plugs on the 3.6 penstar motor do you really need to use that foam cover ? Or is that just for noise reduction ?
@@MotorCityMechanic How would you fix the upper harness when rats chew it a bit? There is literally no help to fix that. I used some liquid tape at first and I do not see any breaks in any one wire. My jeep is throwing codes all over the place after replacing the oil cooler gaskets.
I'm interested in adding an oil gauge to my 2013 jeep if i made uo another adapter with a ground terminal could i use this to mount a Oil pressure sending unit here?jim
My check engine light came on. Code says oil pressure sensor in error. Oil psi at 96 on dash. Drives no different. Could it be sensor or something else? 2012 town and country. Thanks for any help it's driving me crazy.
Same with my 2013 3.6l grand cherokee. P0520 error, but dash shows lots of oil pressure. Maybe a hard code was set when I replaced the broken oil filter bypass valve...
It depends....it has 4. The drivers side or left side is the easiet while the passenger side or right side is harder. It requires some special tools in order to do it. I have those tools and have done so many that to me it goes very fast but for most people it might be a struggle the first time.
Good evening, I am from Brazil, Do you see this is code P06DD Engine Oil Pressure control circuit stuck off ? Can sees low pressure? I don´t have this tool test here in Brazil. I don´t wirte good kkkkkk
Ok. This car arived of other mechanic and they replace the pump oil, but I don´t know how be was the service. The phrasers do noises after of a time, when star engine the phrasers don´t do noises and too I note that the control module don´t active the solenoide of pump oil in down rpm.
I keep getting P06DD before the engine warms up. It comes on about 5 minutes up the road. I have been through all of the oil change checks. I am running 5w-30 Mobile 1 & Mopar oil filter. I just changed the oil pressure sensor. Code was off 2 days, then today it came back on with the engine cool. The code generally clears itself after a few start stop cycles, but comes back. Any chance it's the oil temp sensor?
In most access it’s the oil pump itself......rarely the oil pressure sensor and never the oil temp sensor. From ya experience.....each time i ended up replacing the pump assembly. All this of course is if nothing major has been done to the engine recently
I have been checking on line and getting no where. Seems the only place the shows it is out of stuck. I am curious how hard it would be to make an extra oil filter cap work.....drill the end and add a threaded insert and maybe it works. I might need to place around with it one day and see if its possible.
I want to use this threaded cap to install an oil pressure gauge in my Jeep which would save me from having to disassemble the intake to change the oil pressure sending unit which is working fine for my warning light. Do you see any reason I could not hook an oil pressure sensor to the top of this threaded cap? Also, I am having trouble locating the part. The website you provided a link to is out of stock on the part (for the 2017's) and I can not find the part listed anywhere else. Do you know where I can buy one?
I wanted to update my previous post. I called the company listed in this link www.moparessentialtools.com/item-detail.aspx?itemid=24600008&type=tools which was previously listed. They were very helpful and said they are the exclusive seller of this part. The part is currently out of stock and there are more than 150 people on the waiting list. The good news is a new batch is coming in this week. If it is out of stock you can still order it from their website and it will place you on the waiting list. The cost with taxes and shipping was about $92. I have confirmed with GlowShift gauges that this can be used to install an oil pressure gauge, which will save me from having to disassemble the entire intake to change the fuel pressure sending unit. It may require an thread adapter, but that should not be an issue.
Thanks for that update Jay! appreciate the added info and good to hear that they more on the way and that it will work. Make sure to subscribe and check out my other videos.
You can not. The range it can be is 5psi-135psi……seeing that in a dash gauge would make everyone think something is wrong. What you see in the dash is a “filtered” reading and not the actual reading.

Great tip. Missing all the noise from the other mechanics in the shop. Lol!!
Only time I seem to get to film is on the weekends these days. So you might pick up noise from the wife or the kids instead haha. Thanks for watching!
What do think about the new Baxter oil cooler adapter that’s out now for 3.6 pentastar. I have the 2019 Ram 1500 classic tradesman love this truck
Great videos and I want to support the channel but I cannot find these parts on Amazon. It would help if you put the product links
Great video can we also do and oil pressure test with a live data scan tool?
Could we apply air pressure through the cap to check for oil leaks??
Been fighting with a 2012 charger with a P0523 code. This is some very good info. Thanks
Thanks for your time
cracked oil filter housing
Outstanding video David ! I've sent a couple of friends to your channel. Hopefully you will see a couple new subscribers soon. Thanks !
Many thanks Ron! Appreciate all that you can send this way. Thanks for supporting the channel and have a great weekend
Great Video again as always.
Thanks Rick. Always appreciate the feedback
Very cool video man, thanks!
Your welcome and thanks for watching!
Awesome video
Hey David. Was thinking could you not just buy the adapter for the 2011 threw 2013 and use it on the 14 on up and not use the oil filter just for testing the oil pressure then after just install the original cap with filter after?
I will have to look at the caps to see the difference with the filter not being used. Will need to see if the caps are the same size as well.
We are getting 10psi at idle and it is still throwing a P06DD after driving it. Also getting a P0369.
Great video!
Check engine came on it says oil pressure sensor can it be the pump or just the sensor?
Hey motor city man can I use one of these test caps to connect a pre oiler device to so when I start my car each morning it wont have to dry start and rattle till oil pressure gets up.thanks in advance man .I bet a lot of folks would like to know this
Awesome, again.
Much appreciated!
Do I change the value cover gasket in pair or just the side that is leaking..3.6l se charger 133k
Can show how to do a 6.7l Cummins turbo cleaning to go along with your egr cleaning videos
Had high oil pressure on my 2013 ram 1500 3.6l before I changed my oil cooler. Had the new cooler in about a week and it’s back to reading 99psi again. Any reason this is happening since the oil cooler had a brand new oil pressure switch on it?
Thank you Sir.
John Bebe Your welcome John and thank you!
VERY GOOD THANK YOU
Your welcome and glad to enjoyed. Make sure to subscribe
Good info to know. Thanks!
Dr Kar Your always welcome. Thanks for checking this video out!
Great video, thanks for the information
Your welcome Milton. Appreciate you for listening and for taking in that information. Make sure to subscribe
David i got around 30 to 50 psi since start until warm and I got a oil pump stuck off code any advice how to tackle this
Hey there, Great info!
Total misfire and/or oil dumping in coil
Great video, I cannot find the adapter for 2014 and up. Can you tell me where I can find it?
It seems the one place I know of is out of stock. I want to play around and see if I can make one myself....just need to find the time. Thanks for the comment and feedback about the video.
@@MotorCityMechanic I thought the same. Can I modify my cap? I am sure it is possible, but without great tooling, the cap itself would leak pressure. I just want my jeep back on the road.
What is the rated opening pressure of the filter bypass on the '14+? I cant find the spec anywhere?

hello!! I have a Dodge journey 3.6 and the appeared the code P066DD, engine oil pressure sensor. the car is working normally, I would like tô know if there is any problem using the car with this code? what should be the repair to this code?
P06DD is going to be an oil pump issue that requires replacement.
Buenos dias y muchas gracias por compartir.
Muchas gracias y asegúrese de suscribirse.
@@MotorCityMechanic ya lo hize desde que mire el video
What's the name of the video of the front wheel drive I have a 2014 Dodge Grand caravan I'm have the same problem
Whats the issue? Code? Oil pressure sensor......oil pump? Just want to make sure I send you in the right direction.
@@MotorCityMechanic Oh wow that's good to know. Do you know of anyone that has installed an aftermarket oil pressure guage for these engines?
@@fmxbmx2611 None that I know.
Haha.
139 psi is crazy. Mine is just below 100 at cold idle and after it warms up it goes to 50 psi driving, if i get on it it'll go to 75 and 80.
Was that one of the new Milwaukee Wrench? How do you like them?
Che Kelley Great eyes! Yes it was....I have been using them for about a week now and I like the way they feel in my hands. I recommend them to anyone wanting a nice set of wrenches for sure! Thanks for watching and for the question
5 psi at hot idle seems awfully low, is that why these end up with roller rocker failures?
That pressure is normal depending on the conditions....the hemi is the same way. I would say it might not help but it seems the main issue is the material used in making the rocker arms or their design. They have revised the rockers a few times to help eliminate that issue. Time will tell.
Have another question Dave. When you pull the intake to change plugs on the 3.6 penstar motor do you really need to use that foam cover ? Or is that just for noise reduction ?
Its mainly for noise reduction.....I have seen people leave them off by accident....including me. It will not cause any issues.
Thank David for the reply. Mice love to make a nest with that stuff of course next to the wire harnesses somewhere causing a short
Very true....I have seem a few chewed up very well.
@@arthurrodesiler3109 That is my current issue as well. Bad design for the people in deserts.
Did you ever get an answer for this? I’m trying to do the same
Could you put an oil pressure sending unit on that and wire it to a permanent gauge?
I don't see why you couldn't, but most vehicles have the pressure displayed in the cluster.
@jduda1127 not my 19 & 22 cherokees
@@oneselmo Drove twice out of town with same code. No problem taking it in for a oil change.
Do you need to oil the O ring before tightening down the cap?
It certainly wont hurt but I have found that it doesnt hurt either if you dont. Thanks for watching and for the comment.
Hey dave how hard is to change a camshaft on a 3.6 town and Country 2014
It depends....it has 4. The drivers side or left side is the easiet while the passenger side or right side is harder. It requires some special tools in order to do it. I have those tools and have done so many that to me it goes very fast but for most people it might be a struggle the first time.
Hi, where can I buy the tool?
Could these adapters be use for a bypass filter set up
Good evening, I am from Brazil, Do you see this is code P06DD Engine Oil Pressure control circuit stuck off ? Can sees low pressure? I don´t have this tool test here in Brazil.
I don´t wirte good kkkkkk
The majority of the time that code means you need to replace the oil pump assembly. Thanks for the comment and you write fine. Make sure to subscribe.
Ok. This car arived of other mechanic and they replace the pump oil, but I don´t know how be was the service. The phrasers do noises after of a time, when star engine the phrasers don´t do noises and too I note that the control module don´t active the solenoide of pump oil in down rpm.
Do you have whatsapp our email ? I prefer whats app .
thank you.
wait for it...the Mechanics money shot 2:40
Any idea on the thread sizing on the 14+? It looks like 1/4 NPT, but didn't know if the thread pitch is different.

What is the pats # for the adopter
@@MotorCityMechanic thx for the info. I guess I will be changing the oil pump. Your video on that is informative and well done. Thx again.
@@Ryzenberg78 Your welcome. Thanks for the reply.
Good day

exactly the same issue Would you please update me how you solved it
@@ahmedamin16 dual stage oil pump. I had to change it.
How do I correct the p06dd code?
Most likely you will be replacing the oil pump assembly
Any place to buy it for the people who are illegitimate Mopar mechanics?
So 5 psi at idle is okay?

Yes it would be. Appreciate you watching and make sure to subscribe!
Can't find the link to purchase the adapter oil filter cap ? ? ?

Can I trust the dash readout on my 2012 T&C?
You can not. The range it can be is 5psi-135psi……seeing that in a dash gauge would make everyone think something is wrong. What you see in the dash is a “filtered” reading and not the actual reading.
@MotorCityMechanic Ah...thanks. pretty sure the solenoid went out......
