    I love this so much. I hope they NEVER stop working on it. Even if it takes 100-300 years... Thats still the blink of an eye in terms of the history of our earth and world. This massive dream is such an inspiration.

    At the current pace, it should be completed in about 3000 years.

    This will never,ever be done. Started in 1948, I first saw this in 1965 at age 5,I am now 61 years old.
    It's all about the money for these people. I am native, from my perspective they are using the legacy of the lakota to "build" this.

    If at anytime one has the opportunity to visit it is well worthwhile. my first visit was about 1964 and work was extremely slow. Mainly because the artist would not take money from the US Government. He did not believe that people not interested in the project should pay for its completion. Also he was suspicious that the government would probably not see the project through to completion.

      dam native, it took 20 years to make both the pyramids of Giza and the Great Wall of China, and took 14 years to finish Mount Rushmore, it’s been 71 years now and they have made a tunnel and a face, it shouldn’t take this long

    Mount Rushmore is way smaller and it is still only half carved compared to the original plan when the federal funding stopped. When you realize how big Crazy Horse is and the amount of rock that needed to be removed just to get to the point where the actual carving can start there has been a lot of work done. They are not just carving the side facing the observation platform but both sides of the mountain!

    From the models it appears that this monument will look incredible when it is finished. I wish they could go a little bit faster, though. It looks like they could carve out the hair and body of Crazy Horse fairly soon.

    Millions of visitors per year. $11 dollars per. person plus souvenirs. NY times says in a 5 yr period they received 19 million in donations. Do the math. They could've built a state of the art sports arena. Privately owned, non profit tax exempt. Things that make you go hmmm.

      I have been thinking the same thing and that bus driver BTW, he asks for tips, pretty rude IMO... Yes there seems to be no reason why things have not chanced from this video in 2012 to now in 2018

      Too bad this report was issued by the NY Times, an often factually inaccurate source of information depending upon the subject matter, largely driven by ideologies. Would be interesting to see their balance sheets, however!

    From France: I watched the programm on the french TV last week "Korczack Ziolkowski, family dream's story" , it is JUST INCRIDIBLE and EXTRAORDINARY! i dont have enough words...I am completly overwhelmed!
    So much faith, spirit, love, beauty in this hudge project that will mark the scupture HISTORY on earth!
    Of course some days new technics will probably be able to do faster BUT CRAZY HORSE is much more than "only" technic, so manual here, it is FAMILY LONG PROJECT OVER THE AGES with faith in lenght and independance. This is the STRENGH of this project. It seems that it will be finished in 2050-2060(?), in fact I wont see it finished BUT I am so so happy that I could have discover and watched this family dream story in a documentary, and I plainly HOPE to come over and see it at least once. I have asked my children to come over and see it when it is finished. I told them "in memory of crazy horse that overwhelmed Mum" :-)

      +MS D Thank you so very much for viewing our video! Much appreciated! As you can see from other comments...depending on one's interest we've received both positive and negative feedback regarding this project. It is an amazing project, amazing effort, with no selfish intent by the family. I would like to think I would be around to see it come to completion...but I don't think so! They've a long way to go! It was a cold and blustery day when we visited, but weather didn't stop us from visiting! Appreciate your feedback, and your time! Thank you!

    We were just there and I thoroughly enjoyed the museum and bus tour. I too question why it is going so slowly with todays machinery. I read something about the family being greedy on the money rather than finish it quickly. Our tour bus driver said she hadn't heard that, but I read it. Who knows..
    but...I did enjoy learning about it.
    I only hope I can be around to see it finished, but I highly doubt it.🤔

    You have made a very good movie. Who says Americans have no culture and no history, your work makes me say, men and women of America are as much connected to the land they live on as people of any other culture.

  • @steveallred1330

    In some ways it's good they're giving a tribute to the American Indian also it's bad because the Black Hills belong to the Lakota Nation they never sold the land it was took from them

    • @ColoradoGeorge
      @ColoradoGeorge  4 года назад

      Yes, in a sense you are correct. I often wonder, however, who the Lakota Nation took the land from?

    • @ColoradoGeorge

      I prefer the term "Native" American Vs. the incorrect label of these people being Indians...they weren't from India! :-)

      Colorado Gorge I did some research come to find out a lot of other tribe actually inherited the Black Hills also Arapahoe Cheyenne besides Lakota they all believed black hills were sacred and held ceremonies there

    • @ColoradoGeorge
      @ColoradoGeorge  4 года назад

      @@steveallred1330 Thank you for the info! Appreciated! The next step backwards in time would be to discover which segment of the human race arrived on scene before these other identified tribes. A look back at Beringia and the migration from the land that is now Russia reveals the original people's who eventually moved in and occupied the Dakota territory as we know it today. And...when then did it become "sacred" land?

    After over 70 years of multi millions of dollars, all on Private Land owned by the Custer trust foundation, charging what they say should had built fifteen. Don’t know if that’s possible but knowing the dangers of working in fractured granite rocks who knows.

    • @ColoradoGeorge

      Based on fossil records, the genus appears to have originated in North America about 4 million years ago and spread to Eurasia (presumably by crossing the Bering land bridge) 2 to 3 million years ago.
