Wait a second. There's a hockey player named Liam O'Brien? That's the same name as the actor who plays Gaara on Naruto, among MANY other roles in other shows! As if the NHL having two guys named Sebastian Aho wasn't enough...
To be fair, this team should have left Arizona far sooner. They have always struggled to make a go of it there and were only hanging on because it was Bettman's "project". I feel bad for the fans, of course, but it's probably about time.
I've followed the Yotes from a distance since day one. My local team that was a big part of my life shut down due to covid and won't be back, which was worse for me personally of course, but it sucks, and I know how the real, local fans feel. I don't think they'll be back, seems like the typical BS story that fans get every time a team moves.
They did this when they moved from Glendale too. The fans never showed up, but when the team leaves its all boo hoo. Sure, there were some die hards, but the fact is that a team in Arizona was a stupid idea from day 0. Square peg round hole. Send them somewhere people care
i moved to Az. in '96 when they got here, i only went to games when my Hawks were here... and that was part of the problem here in Az.Canadian teams Hawks Rangers Flyers Red Wings etc. only those fans went to games and like with the Hawks, downtown, glendale, tempe, it was ALWAYS 3/4 Hawks fans. i remember in '13 my Hawks were here and it was packed with Hawk fans. when the Hawks came out the roar was deafening, when the coyotes came out we booed the hell out of them, sad when you come out on home ice and get booed... instead of salt lake sucks, it should be merlo/giterez sucks, and of course bettman sucks...merlo and getrez didn't have the balls to show up for the last game and face the boos....pusses
A lot of the players and staff stayed on the ice for 40+ minutes after the game ended handing out signed hats and stuff to fans. That’s what’s truly heartbreaking. The players, staff, and fans didn’t deserve this relocation, the franchise ownership did.
I don't get the "Salt Lake sucks" chants. It sucks because it will build an arena and have an owner that will pay the bills??? That chant seems misdirected.
I recall that True North had a deal in place to purchase the Coyotes in 2011, and then the city of Glendale voted to subsidize keeping the team for another year, and so True North moved on to the Thrashers. So this whole thing could have been squashed 13 years ago if Glendale had simply chosen to let go.
Wow they managed to fill a small arena a Canadian 20k population town would fill for semi pro hockey in their last NHL game! Maybe just maybe it was a shit market to start with...
I dont get how you were in doubt. Bettmen was forcing an impossibility. If a Canadian team had been in the Yotes situation they'd be forcibly relocated. I dont blame the fans, Yotes fans are amazing. But the org got so many passes that no non desert team would get. I want to see an eventual return, but it should not be priority. Give QC their team first.
Arizona has a higher population, more chances in profits and a clear established goal if they return, Lower taxes, not gouging off Montreal. It makes way more sense for it to come back to Arizona. The reality is that QC is the last place that the NHL probably wants to expand to right now. Atlanta, Salt Lake, Arizona, Houston will all probably happen before QC sadly.
@@lukefantini9770 But I think that there is a misconception that Quebec City would steal Montreal fans but Quebec city still has half a million population and has many nearly the whole city as supporters they will be fine. As well as a proven hockey mark that has a rich history which Arizona/Phoenix and Atlanta don't have. Quebec City Deserves a second chance way more than anybody else!
@@bigleaguesnipes Im not denying that QC has a deeply passionate fanbase. Just from a business perspective Gary aint gonna do it out the goodness of his own heart. He wants profits and sadly a lot of factors go against Canadian teams right now.

The irony that Shane doan only spent his rookie season with the Jets, and now his son is only spending his rookie season with the Yotes (even though I think he will still count as one next year)

I jokingly posted a story saying it would be funny if all the fans pooled their money and beat murello in a land auction bid 😂😂😂. Fun fact that mom season ticket holder, I played with both of her sons. Really fucking sad.
If Alex Mereulo is actually able to build a new stadium for the New Yotes the league needs to buy him out the moment the stadium is ready, he didn't pay his bills in Glendale and completely flubbed the Tempe idea by not doing more community reach out. Bettman needs to talk with the owners of the Suns, Cardinals, and Diamondbacks and see if one of them will bite or even join together because AM is not the answer, unless the answer is a franchise that becomes a cap dumping ground.
These Hartford and Quebec City preachers were cheering on a Coyotes move from Arizona, and now that its Salt Lake City, they are like no, not that. I think hockey could sell in the southern US, Arizona is a smaller but comparable market to somewhere like Tampa, lots of retirees and snowbirds. I think the issue is, like you said, failed ownership. I wonder how things would've been different if the yotes made a cup run like Tampa or Dallas did.

The seats are empty most nights and they had zero viewership numbers. I feel for the couple thousand fans of the team, but that's obviously not enough for an NHL team.
Even if they get a new arena built in Arizona I don't think the fans will ever trust this ownership group after the way they were treated. The yotes need new ownership.
I really don't care that the Jets 2.0 are gone (maybe), the Jets 3.0 are where they belong and are very enjoyable to watch. Just a shame that so many Canadian players were on the Jets 2.0 and are now looking for a job.

@@Insanity5163 True but if you've ever been to Quebec you could completely get by if you only speak English. I think the main reason now why players aren't going to go there is because it's Canadian in general
@@bigleaguesnipes That's fair, I'm only really going of shit from the 90's-00's. If the NHL expands east then QC should be the obvious favorite, but Gary probably wouldn't like that.
@@Insanity5163 Joe Sakic and Adam Foote loved it there. And I don't believe either of them learned French. Quebec City has done the work to become viable. They have ownership and they have a modern building. They shouldn't continue to be shunned because they have a francophone city or there's already fans.
@@pomerlain8924 I agree, I wasn't trying to say that QC shouldn't get a team just because of the language barrier, I was trying to say that that was a historical reason why people didn't want to play there.
The yotes were given so many chances it was high time the NHL moved on. They have had terrible ownership from day 1 and still they were allowed to remain in the league for almost 30 years. Still do feel bad for the fans who supported all that time, bad owners and management killed this team.
NHL bracket challenge when?
Connor Ingram is awesome and I will continue to support him and the boys in SLC whether I like it or not
Wait a second.
There's a hockey player named Liam O'Brien?
That's the same name as the actor who plays Gaara on Naruto, among MANY other roles in other shows!
As if the NHL having two guys named Sebastian Aho wasn't enough...
Good Riddance. Goodbye Coyotes. Don’t come back.
Utah i'm happy as hell for them.. i just feel sad for Arizona.
Very sad. I truly feel for all the Coyotes fans out there. I hope you guys get a team back some day soon!
To be fair, this team should have left Arizona far sooner. They have always struggled to make a go of it there and were only hanging on because it was Bettman's "project". I feel bad for the fans, of course, but it's probably about time.
And the Coyotes got so many chances, compared to the original Jets, the Nordiques and Whalers.
I feel bad for the fans, but the writing has been on the wall for a little while.
They deserved better from the ownership & Phoenix/Glendale.
A lot of the players and staff stayed on the ice for 40+ minutes after the game ended handing out signed hats and stuff to fans. That’s what’s truly heartbreaking. The players, staff, and fans didn’t deserve this relocation, the franchise ownership did.
You can't believe a team that has had relocation rumours since 2009 is relocating?
It's not that no one saw this coming, it's more the people who did latch on have to cope with the team leaving.
definitely done for the title.
ever heard of a figure of speech, or do you just like being a prick?
@@Insanity5163 So three people?
@@coastaku1954hilarious, truly a one of a kind joke
I don't get the "Salt Lake sucks" chants. It sucks because it will build an arena and have an owner that will pay the bills??? That chant seems misdirected.
Damn, I feel bod for Arazona fans. Cant imagine losing your team. Brutal 😟
I am sad
Yotes go Yeet, you had your team and franchise and you've squandered it. Get over it!
Well, I’ll believe it when I see it for whatever Meruelo has planned for the coyotes
Rest in peace Coyotes
As an az fan I am sad. I just want an owner that cares
New team name: Utah Disco!
The Salt Lake Trout will have a good team--the team name is unique and will sell a lot of merchandise
To be honest...... The team should have moved back to Winnipeg years ago
I don't understand why they didn't just move in with the Suns in Footprint Arena.
This is the flaw in American sports no promotion or relegation just a big cash making monopoly that doesn't care about the fans
He wants profits and sadly a lot of factors go against Canadian teams right now.
yeah the NHL wants a team in Arizona, and it makes complete sense. Despite what alot of fans think, its not all about how many fans in the stands. The biggest media market for the NHL.
@@lukefantini9770 even more reason for it to go to QC. They had all the advantages and still failed
Will they become Utah Yodledogs????
The irony that Shane doan only spent his rookie season with the Jets, and now his son is only spending his rookie season with the Yotes (even though I think he will still count as one next year)
This sucks. I kind of liked the Coyotes. I saw them when they came to Australia. I feel for the fans. Is getting a team back even a realistic hope?
It’s been a sad year growlers gone coyotes relocated
Every time I think I’m over it a new thing pops up and I get sad and frustrated all over again 💔. I jokingly posted a story saying it would be funny if all the fans pooled their money and beat murello in a land auction bid 😂😂😂. Fun fact that mom season ticket holder, I played with both of her sons. Really fucking sad.
The trail of horrible owners and politicians is just a black eye on a good fan base.
It's hilarious that the Coyotes should leave Arizona people are just now unhappy because of where they are relocating. Maybe you'll think twice about relocations next time huh.
Happens all the time in the states....don't know why people are suddenly so surprised
For the record, it has been over 15 years since the last relocation so a lot of younger fans have probably never seen this before
@@Insanity5163 in hockey yes. But those who watch hockey likely watch football 🏈, baseball, football ⚽ basketball, where this kinda thing happens frequently too. I'm not even from the states and this didn't surprise me. The yotes themselves are a team that used to be a different team.
@@insertgenericusernamehere2402 I am also from the states and it happens rarely there too.
Football is a bad example, since the NFL follows the money, but even then there was a near 20 year gap before the Rams moved out of St. Louis to the prior relocation
Basketball also follows the money, but even then the last major relocation was over two decades ago when the Sonics became the OKC Thunder.
Baseball is experiencing its first relocation in almost two decades with the A's moving to Vegas, but even then shit teams like mine, the Rockies, are still under no threat.
Relocation is happening less and less, but even with that teams relocating absolutely sucks for younger folks who actually grew attached to the team they were follwing.
@@Insanity5163 yeah it's a shame. But it doesn't mean they can't stop supporting the new team when they move to Utah. They're not that far away. Unlike the yotes themselves which used to be the jets....
@@insertgenericusernamehere2402 SLC to Pheonix is an 11 hour drive
its like the least surprising thing the nhl ever did

what the fuck do mormons have to do with it? I'll watch hockey regardless of the city or state
not everyone in Utah is Mormon you know?
I don’t think they will make much selling beer and caffeinated drinks
I don’t know if I’m related Liam O’Brien but my last name is O’Brien And I’m from Nova Scotia
This franchise lost the league millions of dollars a month for over 20 years. This was so so so so so overdue it’s not even close.
I can believe a hockey team is leaving Phoenix, Arizona. It seems pretty disingenuous to hear anyone say they can’t.
i'm canadian born. but idgaf if quebec or another canadian city gets a team in the future or not.
what i'm amazed is that ari-zo-na was able to have the coyotes for 27 seasons. with all the failed ownerships, pylon teams, fiascos (unpaid bills, toxic work environment) and indifferent support both at the arena and when it came time to find a permanent home. loved how the idiot meruelo didn't make much of an effort when it came time to promote the tempe arena and then it got voted down.
the nhl owning the team for 4 years was pathetic, because nobody during that time wanted to buy the team.
if the idiot nhl decides to give arizona another shot, at least vet a person who is competent and can actually run a franchise. doesn't surprise me one bit that meruelo is going to be allowed to be the owner again, if there is a nhl-approved arena built in the phoenix area within 5 years. 💩
@@Insanity5163as someone from az. I just want a good owner that cares. And A lot of people are not born here. It’s a lot of people moving from colder states
@@Insanity5163 Hockey just doesn't work in the south, not unless you make it fun like Vegas did

Not Utahs fault😭😭😭😭😭😭
If the coyotes had no o choose where to move it should've be to Houston not utah. I didn't even salt lake existed.
The jets will move to pheonix in a few years
It wasn't heartbreaking at all. This team has been a stain on the league since it's inception. Brutal ownership and management has plagued this team consistently.
I’m really gonna miss the loudest arena in the NHL…….when the away team scores 😂😂😂
I really don't care that the Jets 2.0 are gone (maybe), the Jets 3.0 are where they belong and are very enjoyable to watch. Just a shame that so many Canadian players were on the Jets 2.0 and are now looking for a job.
man i bash on the coyotes a ton just as jokes mainly im a sabres fan not like i have a team to really brag about lol but i actually hate this, and really feel for coyotes fans, i sure never ever wanna lose my sabres. that’s definitely tough man:/
Good riddance to the Arizona Coyotes. Fan support was never there in Phoenix. Best business decision in the teams history by allowing the team to relocate to Salt Lake City. Fans around the league won't miss Arizona Coyotes either, so feeling is mutual.
It's definitely sad, but also kind of a relief in a way.
We've all known that the Coyotes moving was inevitable for the last 3-5 years.
Blame whoever you want but the Yotes were a total embarrassment to the league playing in an arena the same size as an OHL teams...
Maybe start with an WNBA team and see if you can keep them.
Did this video really refer to Liam O’Brien as “elite sniper”? He only scored 5 goals this season 😂
EDMONTON VS LOS ANGLES!!!
Sad Woof
Norm Green Sucks!
Relocation. the biggest joke in US sports 🤣🤣🤣 🤣
Losing extra to get the best players is just as stupid 🤣🤣🤣
What other choice was there in this case ? They didn't have a real arena to play in and wasn't going to have one for a while. They were an embarrassment for the league.
@nicolasgarant9124 Where do they currently play? a team belongs to a City, to the Fans.
@@Atreusz They were playing in a 6,000 seat College Arena, and they couldn't even sell out that. Junior Hockey Teams like the London Knights draw in more fans than that, selling out their 9,000 seat arena every home game
@coastaku1954 And where is the problem now? The team belongs to the city, is cruel if they move now. Try this in Europe with football, the city would burn.
@@Atreusz The problem is they're INCREDIBLY in the red. They would have been bankrupt several times over, they even went through bankruptcy once, if it wasn't for other teams bailing them out for years.
