Outstanding Review! Your very thorough review was information dense, well spoken, fair & balanced, detailed and informative. I appreciate your thoughts and efforts in producing an excellent product review. I liked your side by side comparison of you wearing 2 different Arc'teryx jackets while putting your hands above your head & moving; great visual comparison. I also appreciated your thoughts on sizing. Thanks Will!
hey there! amazing review! i'll be going to iceland in september, expecting good amount of rain. I live in Seattle, so I would love to repurpose my rain jacket to future hikes in the area. The price is bugging me. What other options would you recommend?
My main question is; if the revised beta has a 80d construction throughout, wouldn’t that make it more durable against general wear and outdoor use compared to the AR’s 40/80?
We are going on an Alaskan cruise in June with what I’m told is going to require waterproof layers. The weather is rainy, since that area is considered rainforest. We will be hiking. Which jacket would you recommend? I want breathable, dry, not bulky and longevity. I’m not opting for the PFC free.
I just got this jacket, and so far so good. It was a tough buy because there were next to no reviews on it. I noticed the hood didn't bead as well so most likely have to reapply after the first wash. I also noticed its pretty loud but its my first proper hard shell and I suppose the 80d face material is the culprit. I was debating if I wanted this Beta, the LT, or the Lightweight but the 80d material and the inner pocket sold me. Hopefully it all works out
will you be doing a review on or do you have thoughts on the new Beta Lightweight. It's getting a lot of good reviews. A lot like the lT but it has an internal chest pocket!
Thanks for the review, Will! Have you tried the Proton Hybrid before, I saw it's on sale and considered buying it, but it seems to be a relatively niche line. Not sure how versatile it is, and maybe I should go with the more mainstream line like the Beta family? Most of my time is spent in SoCal...Thanks!
@@royyyywwww1111 the standard recommendation would be the atom lt. There is also the Epsilon which o want to buy to replace my atom lt but it is currently unavailable
Hi @willfaulkner If you were to choose between the beta 2023 vs 2024, which would it be? Is the 80d compared to previous 30d really a big deal when it comes to durability?
does somebody has a "sweat problem" too? in my case if i go climbing or hiking everything is nice, but if i wear it in daily use like commuting or other stuff and wear a normal hoodie underneath it i get really sweaty armpits and i normally don't have that problem? Does somebody has an solution for this problem?
Yea I had the problem too. It was due to drinking too much coffee. Might not be the same for you though. I’d recommend switching up your base layer shirt to something more breathable
I got a couple questions, hope you can answer. How often does it needs to be dwr compared to the old one? Is the new 40 - 70 for the beta lightweight more durable than the 30d non epo?
You’d have to find it used or on a different website that still has past seasons. Alternatively, you can buy the beta ar or lt that’s on arcteryx website
You weren't kidding about the really long sleeves, I tried it on today in store and the bunching up was ridiculous. Does the beta AR have shorter sleeves? I tried on the lt as well but it was too tight across my waist and butt.

@@gonzopaddler5996 really appreciate the support !
Thanks Will. This was very helpful. I think I'm now going to be hunting the previous Beta LT or AR for Skiing
Good move
For skiing I use the Beta SV. Perfect for it. The Beta LT and AR might not be durable enough.
I'm really contemplating this jacket for my main hardshell... please do make an update vid when you've tested further! 😀
Thanks for the review. I’ve been eyeing this jacket and the lightweight and wondered how the new version is. Looks good!
Thanks !

@@JojoRamirez-x5i I would just use what you already have. Otherwise marmot or outdoor research have cheaper options.

Part of it has to do with the Goretex membrane. There is more to the durability than just the face fabric.
Good video, just don’t like the revised version as much why would they take the Arcteryx logo and place it on the hood? 😅
@@Foresthugger. yea it’s not for everyone. I prefer minimal branding as well.
Hi Will . As mentioned in the video for 500 dollars there should be no compromise regarding the jacket .
Yup totally agree

It really depends what you are using the jacket for. Is it to keep warm or for rain protection ?

Depends on your level of use. I’ll use usually wash mine beta ar twice a season. With the new dwr, probably 3 times a season
Yea the beta lightweight is more durable
Great review but did you end up using the camera audio or mic audio haha
My mic didn’t end up recording. Have had so many problems with it I’ve ordered a new mic that will be much better
