Great video, it was really nice to hear your thought process while playing the game. I enjoyed hearing how you made your reads, technical play, and other decisions you made!
Such great content ! Thank you so much for uploading this. I personally would be really looking forward for more videos like this. 🙏 And most important: Congrats champ ! True inspiration 🙌🏻☺️
Awesome, thanks so much for the video! I was really looking forward to this follow up. Congratulations! This must have felt like a huge win with absolutely nothing but heavy hitters left and right. I've got a couple comments and couple questions, if you don't mind. I'll intersperse them: 1) Comment: I unironically want to commend the usage of the red line racing around the border of the cam view. Even once I hit that point in the video where my Americanized attention span caused me to start fading out, that tracing red line kept me engaged longer than I'd care to admit until I was back in the game. 2) Question(s): I know everything is situational, but if you had to choose one (or had to think about options)...strictly goat format: what is the "worst viable card"? And what about the "best unviable card"? 3) Comment: It's really cool that despite the other priorities in your life, you're still around. I played from 2004 to 2008 and have been just getting back into the game (mostly Goat format, since it's the right cross section of my comfort zone with availability of opponents willing to play it), and seeing the same minds behind the decks I spent hours on metagame researching and hand-simulating still doing their thing has been really neat. 4) Question(s): To wit, I read your (Kris') "The State of the Game" post from a long time ago (2012?) for the first time this week, and it was a really interesting insight into your mindset vis-à-vis the game and its community circa nearly a decade ago. How does your opinion of the state of the game and its broader community differ today? Which of your thoughts are the same? (P.S. this was mirrored and not on your (Kris') personal site, though it was linked from another YGO resource on the internet - so if there's something I don't know about/this is a sore subject - never mind!)
Thanks for your comments. I always appreciate feedback like that, even and especially about the nitty gritty things, because I never know how people are going to react to any one of the hundred decisions that go into these things. For your questions... Without thinking about this too much, I'm going to say Breaker is probably the worst viable card because it can literally be negated by opponent's building their deck a particular way, plus it doesn't do anything to the real threats in the format. For the best unviable card, well, I'm sorry to classify it as unviable but I just want to throw Dark Master Zorc. I've always liked what you can do with that card in decks packed with Chaos Sorcerer or Fulfilment of the Contract.
As for the state of the game, that's kind of hard for me to answer because I'm so detached from it nowadays. I suspect that's an answer in and of itself, and that Covid has probably done a lot of damage on top of whatever dissatisfaction people have had with it lately. So the short answer is I think a lot of people are looking to Konami for the next big revolution to unbreak the game, and they're probably not too optimistic about it. As for the players, I don't know if anyone has stepped up to fill the roles of the "second guard of pros" from ARG (Jeff, Billy, Hoban, Frazier, Joe, etc) stepping back from the game. Maybe they have and I just haven't heard about them. But either way, I don't think a competitive environment without "pros" to look up to or challenge is good for the game.
Hey I have a question (not sure since I’m returning to Yugioh after 15 years. In GOAT format, do cards have to have existed 2005 or before to be allowed in the format? For example for fun I made a beat down style warriors deck that is centered around command knight boosting Valkyrian knight and blue flame swordsman and other newer warrior 4 star support cards. Is that aloud in the format?
Do you believe there is a counter to the most recent version of trap warriors? To me, the deck seems genuinely unbeatable Edit: posted the comment before looking at the video so that was dumb.
Can you explain the thought process of spirit reaper? I get that it walls blade knight but it seems to just get ran over by mystic swordsman/sasuke. Why not just run berserk+zombrya?
My team swore by it but I'm actually inclined to agree with you. A Zombyra that doesn't even attack still isn't as easily answered by Sasuke, LV2, or Snatch, and the more outs you have to BK/Kycoo, the better in my view. Reaper might be good just to bait BK and side in vs. RGT/DFT/etc, but in the aggro matchup, yeah, I generally prefer to have bigger beaters rather than bigger walls.
when do you side in berserk gorilla and why? I’m currently siding in skilled dark magician for aggro matches I assume the same is for berserk gorilla is it because the 100 more attack ?
That's right. I thought crashing into Blade Knight would more important than having an extra dark. If I get a chance to test this more and find, for example, that 3 Kycoo and 3 Dustshoot is so disruptive to my Chaos guys that I can't afford to run non Darks, then I'd probably switch to Zombyra instead of SDM.
How do you feel gorilla dealt with Agro? Did you simply not swing with it? They can out it with smashing ground and I feel like waiting for your opponent to draw an out is a losing battle
Gorilla attacks, of course. No individual monster is going to survive for very long vs Warrior generally, but the plan is to have more beaters (equal or bigger than Blade Knight) than they have removal to A. Undermine the effectiveness of their beatsticks' ability to apply pressure (which is what a big attack monster does) and B. Steamroll them to victory (which is why I opted for Gorilla over Zombyra). In my experience, aggro decks don't run Smashing Ground and it's difficult for them to answer resolved Spies, Gorillas, AND chaos guys in the same game.
@@kperovic thanks so much for the fast reply! I’ve gotten into goat a lot over the past month, and made my own version of a bazoo fusion deck which has done very well against every deck except warrior, the MU simply feels unwinable and the stats show I’m right. I’ve tried siding 9 cards for the MU but it still isn’t enough as the core of my deck, having one large push to go for game protected by heavy storm, trunade or jinzo is rendered useless by judgment and if I try to outadvatge them as I do with other decks with my flips, I just get destroyed by blade knight and mystic. Could I possibly send you my list or could you direct me to a communtiy that would help me with it? I’ve gotten to top 50 on the DB ladder which I know doesn’t mean much, but getting to the top 10 is my goal. Thanks if you read this far and if you didn’t, no worries

There are a lot of side deck strategies. One popular (and relatively easy) way to go would be to identify which cards are weak in your matchups, then replace them with stronger cards. For example, 2 Nobleman of Crossout (which removes face-down monsters) isn't that useful vs. an aggressive deck that never sets monsters, so you know there are a minimum of 2 cards you want to replace with something like Widespread Ruin (which destroys attacking monsters). Do this same process across all your likely matchups and you should have a good starting point for most side decks.
