I just got my engine back from the mechanics and I can't believe what it cost. They did a great job cleaning it all up and fixing all of the little issues it had. Now it's time to put the engine back into the FV Southern Girl so that it's all ready for the season. Hopefully I don't run into too many issues getting this thing back in the boat.

How's your finger doing after that shrimp stab? That was definitely the riskiest stick I've seen in a long time😅
Great video, thanks for sharing your progress with us, and that shop is awesome!!
You've got a scammer. I reported the comment but I am having problems reporting the person
It's funny, like you call a shipyard home, or look at the place with all the boats and say "If this isn't a place you wanna be I don't know what is". That's the way I feel pulling into a dragstrip! Then get whifs of race fuel and rubber and think, " why is everyone not here?"! But different strokes for different folks I reckon.
Don’t stop RUclips these videos are gold!
agreed i love lukes sense of humor. going have to support the guy and go get some crabs from em.
@@jeepguy6887I agree, I don’t watch much of RUclips but like to see this fellas videos. Real smart dude.
I prefer the longer format videos
I wanted to like this comment in agreement but it’s at 69 likes - can’t ruin that
A little tip for moving heavy items alone.
There IS always room for a tagline. ALWAYS. Some people will tell you its for safety. But its really for the safety of your property. You dont want that engine to catch a strong wind, and take out the cabin.
Great videos.
Boeshield T9. Spray on your tools. Every time you put your tools away. Works wonders.
I know absolutely nothing about boats, engines or crabbing…but this old lady loves to watch your videos! Keep them up and good luck this season!
Me too. I’m a boating enthusiast, but never run any commercial fishery of any kind.. Fun to watch!
Damn they made it look brand new!!! You're a cool guy bro & I like your videos. So keep it up bro!!!!
Brother you need to invest in some power tools and a couple harbor freight socket sets and ratchet wrenches Ave you so much time! Keep up the hustle!
I would have four ratchet straps hooked to the pipe, at least midway up to balance it while I worked on the bottom. You are so very talented. I’m just giving you an idea for the next time.
Great job. Can't wait to see some crab catching videos now.
I want a Chesapeake Dead Rise so bad. Dream boat. They are so beautiful.
Next time you install the stack, lay it to the side, start the clamp bolts and rotate it up. Im lazy. Drive me crazy watching you struggle🤪🤪🤪
Put your rusty pliers in an old glass jar full of vinager 24 48 hours then clean with steel wool pad.
Nice work. The running dialogue is decent too.
Band clamps go on exhaust pipe. Hose clamps go on hoses.
Good job Luke. Your very handy
Great work
Dude, you are doing amazing. Nice work
Keep your tools rolled up in oil cloth and you will be able to resist that rust action for a long time. Also spraying them with that W D 40 stuff.
Luke I get very tired watching you work I get tired thinking about work I may have to go take a nap.
All jokes aside I’ve been there doing this same job and it is not a job for sissy’s. I do have one little word of advice please double clamp all through hull and raw water lines a very inexpensive way to save a expensive problem. I know I’ve been there to had to watch a $150,000 go to the bottom in a very after a new engine swap that thank goodness I didn’t do but I had to salvage just saying.
Good idea thanks!
I would recommend you dont run your exaust with only 3 bolts ik you said its temporary but that metal ring that is the seal will warp when it expands and contracts and if given room to move more likely to not seal after one heat cycle dont put it off haha
3100 dollars is cheap for all that work !!!
I just had my 2017 Evinrude 90 hp etec 300 hour service done and new seals put in the power trim ----> $2000.00
Brand new that Etec cost me $8900. Installed.
That was a freaking sweet vid my guy
They do make rust free tools, you just wouldn’t want to pay for them or drop one in the water. Buy em cheap and replace em often is pretty much boat code.
They did a hell of a job
I would say T&S needs some crabs! Sounds like they took take of you. But from what I have seen I'm sure you have/will take care of them. Will see you this summer and Congrats on the new marriage.
This how i work on stuff, totally sarcastic and negative the whole time and my dad hates it lol
You my man are incredible! Love love loved this video! 😮😂😂❤
Congrats !!! Good job now go get that crab ! 👍🏻😂👍🏻
👍 good work
The world needs more Luke McFaddens, hard working young people.
Nice! Good work!
They do make ratchet wrench sets . Check them out old son. Have changer
👍
Thts so cool your friends with the meat eater crew! ❤️🤘🏻😎 all those guys are awesome!
I'd have boats and old 90s Ford trucks
U are awesome ❤❤😂😂😂
Get your thyroid checked,,, no beard for me for 55 years, then Dr.'s tested my thyroid...hair everywhere! Keep up the great content!!
That has got 2 motors...1 too many....haha
That drop tools in the bilge tip is pretty smart!🤣
no engine cover?
Truth be told... $10k for the Cat repair would not have shocked me!
I was expecting 5-10
@@fvsoutherngirl I've got a heavy equipment mechanic buddy... he says a box of caterpillar parts (think of a case of starter fluid sized box) can run $25k, especially once you're working on the dozer's final drive.
Luke I can't afford another boat.
I'm a Jeep owner😂
What gear you have on there?an what speed she runs in knots are mph?
Is Luke's f250 a 6.0?
We're living life 1/4 turn at a time .. hahahahahaha hahahahahaha 😆😆😆🤣🤣🤣 soooooo true to reality
Honestly $3100 seems extremely reasonable of course you did a lot of the labor with removing and reinstalling but I would have expected much larger. Heck a winterization in my area can be well over $600 when your all said in done in my area and that for a single engine. That was a super smart move!
I agree 31 is a great price
Agreed, compared to the problems all those little hoses and lines and such can cause, seems like the wise decision was made! As he said, saving expensive problems later 😎
And the cost, it really does seem good. I don't work on these engines but I buy a lot of parts and between parts and labor that seems like they did him right.
Good Lord my transmission on my pick up truck cost $1500 more than his whole engine rebuild.
Oh, I thought he had a whole rebuild. Not just a tuneup and regular maintenance done on it. That makes way more sense.
considering a service on my Diesel Jeep Grand Cherokee costs 1200 dollars, $3100 bucks is cheap, and as to why you don't get SS tools, SS is not as strong as carbon steel which can handle high stress levels without deformation. To protect it against corrosion hit with wd40 and store it in a toolbox, just wipe it before use and spray it again afterwards.
"Can practically see the ice caps melting now", "Watermen got more toes than teeth."...Love this guy.
I see Luke posted. I click. That simple
You’re a true crab supporter!
The Luke McFadden comedy boat and fishing show! You just can’t beat it. Especially when you’re eating crabs and watching😅😮🎉
Have to know your strengths. My neighbors strength is taking cars apart snd never fixing them.
I can relate
Sorry I didn’t think you would notice..
A hole in the water that you fill with money. That was pure music when you fired her up Luke.
I hope Luke never realizes how cool he is. Great guy great sense of humor. My husband would be proud of you. He works for a Caterpillar company in SC. Stay safe and thank you for your channel. We love it.
I am myself ,,, rebuilding my Yamaha 225 4 stroke,,, just the heads though,, good luck with your hammer,,, lol
Thanks, you too!
I thought Lyndsey was the most beautiful thing on this channel but that Cat is looking pretty damn good!! 😂👍🦀🦀
I have a forklift at work that has the same engine, but naturally aspirated. It's a biggun. 25k lift capacity, heated cab, 3 speed. You could fit a full size pickup truck seat in the cab comfortably. It runs like a dream. Fires up super easy. Turn the key and before it turns over 2 full rotations, it's barked right off. Glad to see it back together man.
Big forklift!!
That sounds like heaven
Taylor lift?
We got a 30k forklift at my work with the 3208. NA as well, starts in half a crank no matter the temp.
Everything about this video was awesome! You remind me of my husband. He’s a shrimper part time. But he works hard and is smart. What you said at around the 16:00 mark about folks that work hard and how good they are that made me smile. God bless them and God bless you.
That is a hell of a deal in this day, Congrats on the shiny new looking motor and good calm seas and fair weather this season cap.
Luuuuke... they make ratcheting box wrenches now.. harbor freight has them.. use the force Luke..
Luke, On ur coolant/oil lines if u wrap bike inner tubes around them lessens vibration and wear on the pressure lines plus helps keep them clean.
Rev. Paul, Eustis Florida.
'This one time, at band clamp...'
You should get a extra mount installed to help hold up your stack that’s a lot off stress sitting on your turbo
Did they really paint the exhaust housing on the turbo…. 🤔🤣. That is going to burn right off. SMH.
two words, ratcheting wrench. Life saver!
From experience I know that is a great price and a very thorough job! Love Crisfields and surrounding waters. They make stainless but the hardness and edge is not the same. Give the tools a light spray of Kroil when you put them in the box. You should have replaced the old hoses you attached to the engine. Now one of them fails and burns out the engine or sinks the boat!
Mmmmm KROIL good stuff right there👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
@@1cumminsdieselI balked at the price but I refurb old hand tools and it is worth every penny! PBBlaster second
Converting power to smoke! Noice!! Great job on the removal and installation!
I’m the kind of guy that would have spent $2000 on tools, $1000 on parts, and 100 hours doing this myself. You know, the hard way.
As a mechanic...that is the best sound... congratulations Luke... always a good day...
Hey you left that fuel line to long. Yes, thank goodness for Ace Hardware
What kind of tool was he using to beat those pieces back straight? I've never seen a hammer on this channel that looks like that.
Thanks for the entertaining video and for representing with the sweatshirt from Colliflower Luke. The motor should continue to serve you well. Stay in touch.
"dinosaurs going in noise coming out" Probably going to steal that one... 🤣😂🤣😂
You paid what for what amounts to minor preventive maintenance?
12:33 hey lad we got two fer sale up here, might wanna check out the #CrissyG or the #MissFitII😅
Sure is purty! 💛 Nice to hear her fire up!
i would have painted that bilge while engine was out and cleaned all wiring up....
Love your channel, what got me interested is the CAT engine. I have worked for the company that makes the heat exchanger that is on your engine for over 26 years. Seeing it in use is really cool. Knowing that i may have machined it makes me smile. Keep it up and stay safe.
As an old retired diesel master mechanic, I can tell you that preventative maintenance spent on that engine will keep it trouble free all this season. 😊
The guy with the sponge was talking, and for a couple seconds I thought Mike Rowe was helping Luke for an episode of dirty jobs 😂
I've worked for a Cat marine engine dealer for 27 plus years, used to work on lots of 3208's. They quit production about 2002 or so- a Cat marine factory rep told me they wanted to get a factory reman program for the 3208 like Cummins has for the B and C series- but they needed to come up with 200 good cores first. The tooling to manufacture the blocks was destroyed when they stopped production. That bill you paid was NOTHING man! Oh so many marine engine turbos "rot" salt air wafting up that exhuast pipe erodes the housing, boost falls off. Usually low hour pleasure boats.
I confirm the rotting, my turbo blades are covered with rust.
When you pull the exhaust elbow/riser off, there should be about .030" between the turbine blade tips and the cast iron housing- when they are rotted you will have about a quarter inch! They won't build much if any boost. @@tujuprojects
"more toes than teeth" 😂🤣🤣 really enjoy you vid's 👍
Burning dinosaurs keep it coming brother
It is not common to make stainless tools because it is extremely difficult to harden stainless steel and the effect is limited. Carbon steel is cheaper, can be hardened and tempered. Adding chrome and molybdenum adds strength for tool steels and carbide can be added to cutting edges.
Craftsman tried it with ratchets once most junk ratchet I own.
Hydraulic line is rubbing on a steel line 👀
I had a 3208 normally aspirated on a house boat on Cahpra Bassa lake . That engine was great. Never let me down. Best engine Cat ever made.
I have four of those. It’s a parent bore engine.
Love your videos! Regarding stainless steel tools I’ve always heard Bahco tools are designed for the marine trade and have a non corrosive coating on them you could try out their pliers. Also good call on the preventative maintenance love your videos
My wife says I excite at a lower RPM
Painted alternator belt…. Hmmmm
Beautiful. Fisherman, Ranchers, Farmers. The heart of America!
Spray your tools down with Fluid Film. Stuff reeks to high heaven so you know it's good!
Put your pliers in a jar of coke for a day they will be like new
Only time Martime Cats don't leak oil is when they are not running lol. That a good sounding motor, you should put some heatshield up around you stack so if line or something gets on it dont melt or catch fire. I fished in Alaska on big 109-183ft crab boats worked on both CATS and DEERES, certified cat parts and work for warranty is crazy, everytime we went into ship yard the bill was always 1m+
Congratulations Luke , you're the only crab man with a half new looking motor .
they did a great job on the motor....what are you going to do with all your extra time not having to work on the engine. not a bad price really......it really sounds good.
“I love this truck. Makes me want to smoke cigarettes” 😂😂😂
Smoking? Not appropriate for my 22 grandchildren to hear.
Dude is funny AF!!!
Caterpillars don't have thermostats. They're called "Regulators"
I know, I know. But it's the truth.
That was a good price on the motor.
Agreed!
Yall are on the eastern shore?
OK Crab Whisper 🦀 does this mean we are going to catch more Crabs 🦀 or the Crabs 🦀 we are going to catch are going to taste 😋 much better. HAHAHA 😆. THANKS AGAIN CRAB WHISPER 🦀 😋 😅 😄 🤣.
Great video....but...... It's NOT a motor, it's an engine. Big, very big difference.
My brother owns his own fishing boat with fishing gear, the fishing gear is a price tag of over 1.5 million dollars CAD plus the cost of buying the fishing license to fish that gear, that doesn’t include the boat, he’s sunk at least 35 grand plus into the boat so far.. yea parts for boats are expensive lol.
