Misleading clickbait title … Title should state selection is limited to only what’s available on Amazon … other brands do exist … it is also possible to purchase from other suppliers !!
The only better player than the Panasonics are the Magentar's. So, it really does not matter that he used Amazon as the distributor of his picks. The Panny 820 is the exceptional value here, and should be your choice.
I’ve been perfectly happy with my Oppo 203 region free 4k player. Both the unit and the remote are built like a tank. Shame they stopped making these years ago though. These units probably have too many menu options for most users. It even has twin HDMI so you can send the picture straight to the TV and the sound straight to the Amp.
The Panny 9000 is an excellent disc spinner but falls short when it comes to being able to play. from an external hard drive or over a network, lossless audio from MKV and MP4 files nor can it read chapter marks in MKVs. It isn't nearly as versatile as my Oppo-203 which can handle almost any combination of video/audio encoding that you can throw at it. That said, as a pure commercial disc player it can't be beat but the 50% lower priced UB-820B with its more plastic build and without the advanced audio capabilities as the 9000, uses the same video processing hardware, including the HDR Optimizer so it may be a better choice for many.
I have the 203 here in Australia too. Just bullet proof reliability and faultless playback. I am still stunned at all the menu options you can fiddle with. It looks perfect with the centred disc tray for balance too. I also have the Toshiba XE-1 HD DVD Player with the metal backlit remote. It looks exceptional on an OLED tv or Plasma.
Never made the jump into 4k ..... BUT ( I'm 70 yrs. Old now, lol ) My TV is a 70" Sharp Quatron That looks phenomenal for it's tech..... Yeah ..... a sub pixel green/yellow ..... Brilliant set and you can get in EVERY tweak ! So when I saw what was coming ....knew I wasn't going 4k.....I bought up 2 Oppo BD-93's ...2 Oppo BD 103'S .... and the Crown jewels...2 Oppo Bd-103D. ( Darby ) They are built like old bell telephones which would have been in your house for 30+ years easy ...lol The Oppo Darby Units combined with the Sharp Quatran lacks Nothing ....! Is it a modern micro pixel .....No .... Damn hard to tell... Is it an OLED ..... No, but our downstairs theater is pitch black, not an issue... The sound chips in the Oppo decode Everything....And it ALL sounds way better than streamed Digital X ... My son sprung for the Oppo 203 4k player , BUT had just bought a 4k TV ... As soon as the 203 came out ebay was flooded with 103's 103D's and prices on 93's drooped like a rock .....So I scooped them up ... I've built a huge Blu-ray library .... And thoroughly enjoy my home theater experience. If the TV finally goes , I'll pick up an LG OLED .... maybe go 75 or 77 inches But I have a feeling this Sharp will last longer than me ! 😊
4:39 Sony UBP-X800M2 underrated 4K Ultra HD Blu ray disc player along with Sony UBP-X700 yes have to manually switch on or off never had 100GB Triple layer 4K Ultra HD Blu ray freeze in mee.
Anyone click on this video thinking they would show best REGION FREE options, considering it's in the title of the video? They never even mention Region Free players & while I know 4Ks are mostly Region Free that is just the 4K format not the players. I have a 4K Blu-ray player & it doesn't play Region B disc, therefore it's not a Region Free player
This views like a paid promotion by Panasonic. If you're looking for a player that can upscale your old DVDs and blu-rays, Panasonic is possibly the go-to brand. However it cannot play SACDs and is not anywhere near on par with the older Oppo players for Dolby Vision content - Nor will it ever be while Panasonic choose to blame Dolby for their players inability to implement Dolby Vision's live/dynamic metadata. So to be clear: if you want the finest Dolby vision player you are going to have to stump up the money for an Oppo 😭
None of these players match up to my 7 year old OPPO UDP 230….And I’ve had most all of these players. None of these last past the 2-3 year mark. Next player will likely be a REAVON or MAGNATAR.
My panny 9000 has stopped reading 4k discs altogether, went back to my old Sony 700. It ain’t worth it for a 1000 bucks yall, get the panny 820 same thing for half the price and it won’t feel as crappy if it breaks

This is a list of players that are readily available through Amazon and not actually the best players in 2025. Magnetar for example is better than all of these players (if money is no object).
They show the back of the Panasonic unit and keep a quote box (that you can't even read) up the whole time. I don't know who the guy is that made this video but he's no expert in the field, that's for sure. Thumbs down.
Sony X800M2 pure junk,1st one stopped playing discs or froze, cleaned discs throughly, returned and got another one same exact issue it took awhile before the issues started past be able to return it so now it's sitting under my bed, bought the Panasonic 820 flawless play never has it froze or pixelated once. Sony had issues with all their 4k players. They make great TVs but lack in disc players.
