I'm seeing so many similar comments to what I'm probably about to make here. I am 33 years old, going on 34. I remember the exact moment I first heard Flyleaf on the local Christian radio station in central FL. It changed my life. I'm sorry, but the raw, visceral, emotionally authentic music that they made is rare to find these days. Come to think of it, it was a rare gem there too. Her influence is absolutely embedded in me musically and spiritually (same thing!). It's almost a painful kind of nostalgia to rewatch these hauntingly beautiful performances. It makes me feel so many emotions at once. Flyleaf is one of the main reasons why I began creating and performing myself. They will always be a part of me.
I discovered her through my highschool years. Her songs and her voice helped me coped through my depression. I love Lacy and I will always love the bands work. I'm glad shes happy now.
So did I. Her music is healing and powerful. I feel like listening to it makes me feel tough and strong. She's a great songwriter and singer. "Okay" is my all-time favorite from her.
Lacey is my hero. She is the reason my boyfriend started coming to church with me and she is the reason i love God the way i ido. I hope God calls me to serve him like he did with her.
i listen to flyleaf for years before they where even named flyleaf i love the meaning in their music and the fact that her hurt and mind is in the right place along time ago back wen i was a nobody n didnt have much my number 1 dream was to meet the band and years later it still is i get tons of motivation from their music flyleaf for the win
This is the acoustic version, which doesn't include the scream. She screams in most of the other Rolling Stone Acoustic performances. From what I've seen in other live acoustic performances of this song uploaded on RUclips, she doesn't scream "Joy Will Come" at the end. I'm not going to lie, though, it would be extra thrilling to have heard her belt it out. :)
She was having problem with her voice at this time. So she learned how to scream withouth hurting her throat. Now She can do a fake scream that is almost the original and keeps her voice awesome. There is a video that she shows how to scream like this :)
Often, it is not just the screaming that does it. If you listen to when she switches to her "head" voice she strains super hard. If she does that at every show, and is doing that as well as not warming up, the combination is enough to send you to the operating table for your voice. Now add screaming to that, and you are absolutely thrashed.
Maybe you haven't noticed that there are VERY few singers out there that sound as good live as they do in a studio, because of course in a studio they alter and fix any mistakes made. But Lacey still sounds good live in my honest opinion and there is something in her voice that is quite unique, she has a beautiful voice. Which really isn't hard to notice.
