  • Gigabyte Brix Pro GB-BXi5-4570R GB-BXi7-4770R CPU heat sink and Fan assembly. Thanks to hostip.info/ for this review system. This is the inside of the unit. The fan and heatsink area. Looks like a laptop fan. Could maybe be modded or changed if your is making noise or you want to add a better, faster fan. As it is the unit does not throttle unless I run both furmark and CPU stress test. Only with unrealistic usage will it throttle.

    been running this for a year now. No issues at all and I am california so summer heat is pretty crazy here. I think you guys are stressing way too much about the heat. This thing is on probably 10 hours a day and doesn't break a sweat.

      +N Kumar Just the fan noise was what bothered me. Sounds like a jet engine gaming, but then again so did my MSI gt60

    I changed mine to the 92mm half height Noctua and built a different case that is smaller. Works awesome now. Stays super cool and is now totally silent.

      will noctua fit into original brix box?

      vittore Hmm not sure, I built my own case. If you email me directly I can send you a picture. It turned out incredibly well. Mine clocks over 6200mb/s read transfer rate on crystal disk which is really insanely good.

    Are there better fans in the market to replace the original?..

    Looks easy to put a nice, quiet fan on though as long as the temps can be controlled.

    Just to add I tired 2x 4GB 1866Mhz G.Skill CL10 ram and then G.Skill 2x8GB 1600Mhz CL9 16GB of ram and the difference is not much at all. Its so not worth it. About 40 3dmark11 points more Firestorm @ 1866Mhz. So I have kept it on 16GB as I multitask alot and can go over 8GB in use.

      Only APU's profit from faster RAM.

    • @Techtablets
      @Techtablets  10 лет назад +2

      Philip Cooper APU will benifit more but 1866 Mhz Vs the 1600Mhz everything has CPU wise increased. Intel XTU score up from 880 to 915 (Beats my old overclocked 4770K by the way) hwbot.org/submission/2501200_hendrickson_xtu_core_i7_4770r_915_marks) Cinebench went from 7.2 to 7.86. Video encoding gets a nice boost. So I disagree. I have the proof here it helps.

    I got the AMD Brix PC and the heat issues are completely ridiculous, I heard flashing to the latest BIOS can reduce temperatures but there has to be some other ways, running borderlands 2 on medium settings pushed my CPU and GPU to 90c...

    to me it looks like it's just a big chunk of copper, no heatpipes which means less performance for the size of the cooler. I've been wanting this for a long time especially since you can get it a lot cheaper now, but i can't get pass the damn noise.

    I was wondering if you thought about watercooling it? Or submerging it? These could take care of the overheating

    Could you take off the fan and replace it with a sealed water unit (Corsair H80i or something like it)? Does it need or get air circulation inside the case with the EOM fan?

      It is possible but you would be leaving the gpu out.

    An 80mm fan could probably mount right on the heatsink from the looks of it. Any problems with clearance in the case itself then?

    Did you apply new paste yet? My i5-4570R runs about 70C during routine tasks and 90C during Dolphin emulation. Still debating on whether some Arctic MX-4 would be worthwhile since I'll rarely be stressing the CPU.

  • @StephenHerbertJr

    Thanks so much! looks like it doesn't have a standard HSF mount, so can't put a regular cooler on there

    I'm hoping I can take a Brix Pro (to get the Iris Pro Haswell processor, since it's OEM only) and move it to another case. Can you confirm whether that blower is a PWM fan? It looks like 4-wires to me, but it is a standard connector? If so it should hopefully be very easy to move to a case where the heatsink faces up towards a vent with a nice big 140mm+ fan, should quieten the system right down I think, though the RAM and mSATA will be harder to get at in most cases, I think it'd be worth it.

  • @3Copson25Doughnuts

    Hey did you end up replacing the paste on the CPU? Did it help, or do I just let this box run at like 70-80c?

    Hi. How did you take off the sata cable (the black ribbon you see just after taking off the 4 bottom screws)? I have never seen a connector like that so I don't know how to unplug it from the mainboard.

    Did you or anyone else have success in swapping the fan out for something that is a lot quieter?

  • @pikabko1

    its not a laptop fan. its a closed market fan specal designed for a item such as this. however my question is is there one that I can isntall a nVidia notebook grpaic card?

  • @japkoslav
    @japkoslav 10 лет назад

    Sadly i can't think of any good modification to cooling to make it quiet right now :(
    Only thing that comes to my mind is mount it in bigger case / stand and replace that blower with some nice Noctua fan.
    I want I7 4770R so bad ... but it have to be quiet solution.

  • @StephenHerbertJr

    any chance you can remove the heatsink/fan to show how it attaches? so we can get an idea what else we might put there?

    • @Techtablets
      @Techtablets  10 лет назад

      Two screws from the top hold the fan onto the heatsink. The heatsink then is also mounted on by 4 screws. CPU is soldered to the motherboard. I might pull it off and repaste it with IC Diamond 7.

    do you have a 4k display you can test with it? I see on the GB website that the HDMI supports 4k out, but i'm wondering if i can also get the mini-DP to output 4k so I can do dual-4k monitors?

    • @Techtablets
      @Techtablets  10 лет назад

      Sorry I only have a 2560 x 1440p monitor. No 4K yet.

    • @poopymerl
      @poopymerl 10 лет назад

      hendrickson It's all good. I ended up using the GIGABYTE GB-BXA8-5545 - I can confirm that it does 4k output on both the HDMI and mini-DisplayPorts, but you have to unlock the pixel clock of the AMD driver with a free utility. the 4k output is great for productivity, but the combo of the CPU/GPU in there can only run a fullscreen 4k video at about 10FPS

    • @Techtablets
      @Techtablets  10 лет назад

      poopymerl I can imagine 4K would be good for productivity, which is why I like 2K more space to do things. 10 FPS video is not the best :( Better if it could manage at least 24fps

    how high oil temperature has the i5 model? I buy i7 model and it is located in a 70C on desk top and 95-98 lode: (

    • @Techtablets

      Underload my i7 maxes out around 95 too. My i5 BRIX model was about the same. I'm going to repaste the CPU with IC7 and see if it helps. Gigabyte will just be using some crap paste.

    • @Techtablets
      @Techtablets  10 лет назад +1

      Also use intel XTU and undervolt the CPU and GPU and that has lowered my max temps about 3-4 degrees.

    Man, just found you googling for the i7 version of the brix w/ iris pro.
    What you think, i wanna get the i7 version because of the best performance, but is it really worth it ?

    • @Techtablets
      @Techtablets  10 лет назад

      Gaming, GPU wise its the same. The i7 is faster at video encoding and in general a bit faster due to hyperthreading 8 threads Vs 4 on the i5. So if you need that extra CPU power it will be worth the extra $100 or so. But its higher 700Mhz clock could mean its much hotter and has more fan noise (unconfirmed). My i5 Brix Pro is quite. Only loud when gaming or encoding a 3K video for example. Fans step up and down very quickly.

    • @Techtablets
      @Techtablets  10 лет назад

      hendrickson Also there is a stock shortage on the i7 model. 2-3 week wait till they are stocked.

    • @workingmanbh
      @workingmanbh 10 лет назад

      hendrickson Yeah, it's been hard to find the i7 version.
      Do you recommend any place to buy ?
      It would be somewhat hard to me, as i live in Brasil, and likely a friend would buy to me while travelling, so it need to be a good online shop :)

      hendrickson I would like to note that the 4770R GPU runs at 1300 MHz max vs. 1150 MHz max in the 4570R, so in theory the i7 graphics should be a little bit faster.

      That won't work. You'll have to find a way to blow the hot air OUT, that's why they use a radial fan pointed to the outlet at the back ...
