I still can't get over the fact that we've seen Sora beat the shit out of Minecraft Steve before we've seen him make a official appearance at any of the Disney parks.
I love Sora’s design for being that bridge between Disney’s cartoonish charm and JRPG’s complex anime-seque aesthetic. KH1 Sora is iconic, but I think KH2 takes the cake for me purely because of nostalgic bias.
I don't want to undermine Flynn's analysis, but I kiiiinda feel like nostalgic bias played a big role in this video. He goes on about KH1's design being true to what Sora is supposed to be, but then U-Turns at the end and says KH2's design is the best because it's cooler. I think it's nicer looking, but just like KH2's story, it strays from Disney and leans more towards Final Fantasy, and... it's not as heartfelt feeling. You couldn't make that Smash trailer work with his KH2 design, just saying; The impact would've needed to be replaced with an "epic" fight scene or something instead.
I dunno man. I'm a lot more nostalgic for KH1 than I am 2. I hold it much more dearly in my heart so if anything nostalgia would've made me pick that game lol.
Speaking personally for myself I think I love Sora's KH 3 design the most. But, _BUT_ I feel that his looks throughout the KH series are all fantastic so it's really just a case where you just kinda pick your favorite look. :)

I prefer KH1 Sora because of the good mix of white, red & yellow that somehow make him fit really well with the Disney cast despite his spiky hair and eyes more reminiscent of other Final Fantasy games. It really achieves that balance of both Disney & Square Enix into one design.
Kh2 designs and the other outfits that came with it are definitely my favorite. I don't have any kh nostalgia since I didn't start getting into it until after the smash reveal but the og design is also very iconic. There's a charm to it, like you mentioned, that draws a connection from both ff & disney that sets it apart from all the rest. I've seen the kh3 design many times but it doesn't grab your attention like kh1 and 2 does. Anyways, great video!
Its tough picking the right Sora, because each design adds incredible detail to the previous designs!( especially his hair! Sheesh!) Currently im illustrating Sora for an RPG illustration and I've been heavily using KH2 designs( the wisdom/ valor forms etc) as they game him variety but also mainstreamed his design with detail and simplicity at the same time. So my votes KH2!

2 or 3 probably have to be my favorite designs for the character. I like the black and what it adds to the design from an aesthetic standpoint. 2 is probably the one I prefer, but I think 3’s design is more something a bit more realisitic in a way, looks like something I could see Soemone his age wearing
My favourite design is definitely his Kingdom Hearts 2 one. It’s just the one that I think makes Sora look the best and I think it’s just really cool. I just think it’s a perfect look for him.
My favorite Sora design would have to be his KH3 look. I prefer the older look of Sora compared to his 1 and DDD designs. And KH2 looks a bit too busy for my personal tastes. They still like them all but KH3 is my favorite.
Sora's design (KH1 more specifically) reminds me a lot of Sion Barzahd from Square Soft's "The Bouncer." Sion is my favorite childhood videogame character, so I got a sweet spot for Sora.
It's really hard to pick a specific one. KH1 is an iconic look for him that merges the cartoony Disney aesthetic with the Final Fantasy anime inspired style and the brighter colours really show his youthful side. KH2 shows a more mature Sora who has visibly aged and was the first big design change that showed the character's growth (both in height and general power level with his improved combat abilities) and as a template for all the drive forms to fit. KH3 further shows an even older Sora with way more focus on the red aesthetic that he has had since the first game (Goofy being represented by Green and Donald by Blue) but not to the extent of the DDD design. I'm personally a bit biased towards KH1's classic design but also love the KH2 design as being the first jump of Sora being older and growing up as a character. Plus the Drive forms do add a bit of extra flair for the 2 design. For world eclusive designs his Halloween Town is the runaway winner for me. Funnily enough Halloween Town was my first introduction to The Nightmare Before Christmas as a kid. I had never even heard of the movie before and was completely taken aback by how different this world looked compared to the Disney properties I recognised. I wound up looking up Nightmare as a result of this game and love the movie too.

KH II Sora has long been my favorite design for the character, though I quite like his look from KH III as well. Though I don't dislike his original look, it's been a bit frustrating to have that be look used for every game he appears in between 2 and 3 (even in Dream Drop, where it really didn't make a lot of sense. His KH2 design even appears in cutscenes, guys!) so I think I got a tad burnt out in the original design xD
I agree, it made sense for Data-Sora in coded to look that way but Sora and Riku inexplicably transforming into their younger designs in DDD was strange and totally unnecessary. Not to mention it's _always_ odd and distracting to hear Sora's older voice coming out of his younger design.
Personally: I find Anti Form Sora one of my favourite looks for Sora. He comes off like an animal/werewolf design which is just terrifying and he’s absolutely ruthless with his attacks… not even needing the keyblade to kill his prey. Its just a damn shame that Anti Form doesn’t play a more prominent role because its such a cool and interesting concept in lore and Anti Form is a neat punishment for players… by abusing power too much. Its like bringing out Sora’s dark side… both literally and figuratively…
My favorite would have to be 3, I actually never really liked his design in 2, too complicated or busy I think, while his original design is a nostalgia trip, and I have a fondness for his DDD outfit
Agreed ! My main complaint about kh2 design is that, not only it is too busy with questionable fashion taste (vertical zippers on shoes ?), but red is not it's central color when it is established as Sora's color, as reflected in his other designs.
KH2 Sora is just objectively the best Sora design and I can go on with that for hours, explaining shape appeal to the eye, color combinations and so much more...I can just prove it :D

I think KH1's design has the best design. Not that it's my favorite either, but I think it's important that it balanced both Disney and Final Fantasy in it, and KH2's Sora design, just like its story, signified a stray from the Disney aspect in favor of leaning harder into Final Fantasy. It makes him *cooler*, but scenes such as the Smash trailer wouldn't have been as heartfelt with it. KH3 is good and bad. It's not as cool as KH2's and it's not as well balanced a KH1's, but I do think it accomplishes making Sora feel like an older, modern, human character running through Disney worlds, which works for the game. But it's not as memorable or whimsical. KH2 Sora gets some points for its extra forms, though if we're just looking at his base designs, I think KH1 stands a better chance. (Not sure if it counts, but I do like inclusions such as oversized yoyos, magic guns, skates, etc. and even entire roller coasters to his arsenal, especially the latter, as it's something that feels like it could've been included since the first game. I imagine it would pair well with his KH1 design.)
My favourite design is kind of a toss up between 1 and 2, but I feel as though Halloween Town Sora begs to be mentioned. I was obsessed with both KH and NBC growing up.
I love the KH2 design, the KH1 design is just classic and his 3d design is a great transition with loads of style. But I have to say, the 3 design is my favourite. Its more mature/ "cool" than his 1 design, not as overcomplicated as his 2 design, and just feels like a natural evolution of the 3d design
Kingdom Hearts is my favorite video game franchise, thank you for covering Sora! But I have to disagree with you about his KH3 design, it’s actually my personal favorite design of his. I think it’s amazing. Might be the nostalgia around the hype/release of KH3 fueling it but still. Love KH3 Sora, think that design is super underrated
The thing is, KH1 and KH2's designs are iconic, so it'll take some time for KH3's to have an impact. I personally really love it, more than KH2's so I hope it'll get its glory time
A detail you didn't mention was how the Timeless River design was essentially just Sora's KH1 design redone in a old-school cartoon style. It makes sense logically too, as the trio have to adapt when traveling back in time, so their outfits go back in time too, with Donald and Goofy adopting their classic Disney clothes and Sora getting his KH1 outfit back, symbolizing them going back in time.
WHERE'S V-CAST SORA!? Joking aside I quite like the Christmas Town design of Sora, how he still quite spooky but with the holiday spirit. I also like the Kingdom Hearts Manga look of him (I like the art style).

There's a reason why people remember Sora, no matter if you like or hate Kingdom Hearts. I like all his designs, but I'll just stick with the main outfits: KH1 is classic. Though I'll admit, I did get a bit burned out after they kept using it more over the other designs. I wouldn't be surprised if people remember the outfit just because of how often they used it. I still like it though. KH2 is a fan favorite for various reasons. I understand it's not everyone's style, but it's memorable due to it feeling like a natural evolution of the character. He feels more experienced and battle-ready, along with having the Drive forms that just pop with color and power. It almost felt like the outfit was a character in itself. Dream Drop is divisive, mainly due to the game it appears in. DDD has its problems, but I personally didn't mind Sora's outfit. As for its appearance in Smash, the Wisdom form colors on it look great. It also doesn't help that it most likely served as a blueprint for the KH3 design, which also feels divisive. Speaking of KH3, the outfit is fine. The design is not as complex as KH2 or DDD, but it lacks a charm that KH1 had. For one thing, the color palates are DULL. I'm not entirely sure how, but I like it better in Smash as said colors just look stronger. The forms this one has aren't as memorable unless it's focused on said form, like Second or Ultimate, because KH3 was so focused on the Keyblade Transformations. By doing that, the outfit and most of its variations just get lost in the shuffle. And you know what's weird? KH1 outfit was his signature look, as we all know. The KH2 outfit was later intergraded into the story to replace said outfit due to outgrowing it and giving Sora more powers. Even the Dream Drop outfit was intergraded into DDD's story, despite the BS surrounding it. How was the KH3 outfit intergraded? A new pair of clothes... That's it. Keyblade Transformations, the forms associated with them, its own set of new powers for Sora to use... never touched upon in the story AT ALL. The KH2 outfit wasn't outgrown, severely battle damaged, or even drained of the Drive forms! The only excuse is 'it wards off darkness like the black coats.' Anyways, that's my two cents on Sora's character design. No matter what outfit's your favorite, we all know that Sora has style!
I don't consider 3's look realistic in the slightest. I also think it's greatest strength is that there isn't a sole color dominating the look with an even distribution of colors as opposed to the others which favor one color. It's also sleeker and not as visually busy as 2's. The best way to surpass this is by giving him sleeker pants and an open coat as long as the pirates look
I don't consider it realistic. But I feel like CGI as a style generally looks more realistic than a toon. Probably a terrible way of explaining things though.

KH3 Formchanges just don’t get any love, huh? Shame, I get it though, thanks to the combination of relatively realistic artstyle, focus on the weapons rather than the forms and the lack of unique visual effects on Sora, it’s hard for them to stand out.
There was also another design for Sora, along with Riku, Kairi, Roxas and Axel. I believe it was part of a fashion line that came out around KH3, which puts them in more modern, realistic clothes with a personal bag of some sort. As for all of Sora's main designs, that is a hard choice. I have a lot of nostalgia towards KH1 and 2's designs and really like DDD's design. I don't own KH3 yet, so I haven't gone on that personal adventure with that Sora, but still think he looks cool. His forms are awesome too. The guy just has that anime/Disney charm and is one of my favorite characters of all time without a doubt.

You said that 3's design wouldn't be anyone's favorite design but it actually is mine. 3 was the first game I experienced and I've played most of the rest at this point and I'm sorry to say, the first game's design is just too silly looking for me to enjoy as much as 2 or 3. I prefer the KH1 design because it’s reminiscent of Mickey Mouse and it’s simpler: less belts and chains and crosses. I know that Nomura loves belts on his characters, but I feel that it clutters the design.

1:47 Ik this is old, but Sora's name does NOT translate to sky. Japanese has 3 alphabets, and only in Kanji realistically could his name translate into anything. Sora's name is written in Katakana, which while initially used for foreign words, they're really just sounds that mean nothing.
For me, it's gotta be KH3 outfit. It just looks so sleek. KH2's outfit is too complicated for my taste and KH1's is better but it looks really ....Goofy. lmao sorry not sorry
I tend to favour his KHII design too, 1's is definitely the most iconic but II's is just a lot more slick and cool. I dislike the DDD design almost entirely just because of the bizarre choice to have Sora appear younger for no reason in that game. His KHIII design is OK IMO, apart from the shorter haircut which I think just looks off and ugly. 11:52 A minor thing but that cartoon is called "Steamboat Willie".
Conclusion: Kingdom Hearts 1 2 and 3 are godlike tier. Because let's be honest, who the hell actually likes Dream Drop Distance Sora? ask any Smash Bros player and 1/10 will tell you when they use Dream Drop Distance Sora.

I'm in the minority on this one but personally, I can't STAND the KH2 Sora. I get the idea theme wise and in terms of the powers of the drive form, but the over usage of black and the belts and zippers just annoys me. To me it comes off like trying too hard, and knowing Nomura, I swear this was intentionally to troll those who complained about his over usage of zippers and belts. Especially on those friggin shoes! Seriously, WTH?! Its just goddy, ugly and awful to me! Plus with colour theory, KH1 Sora worked before with Donald and Goofy with the team being red, blue and green. But KH2 Sora and then on made it Black, Blue and Green. Just so they can give Mickey the red in KH2, and even then he still had the mix of red and black like in CoM and eventually KH3. I know people have issues with KH3 Sora but it was never an issue for me as I thought it was better toned, simplified, and balanced the red more on his look rather than just attributing them to the pouches. And I grew up with KH1 Sora as that one is still my favourite of them that has nothing to do with nostalgia. To me its about the colours and appearance. I'm sorry man, but everytime I hear people praising Sora's KH2 design as "the best", I just hear the nostalgia talking, and I know that's not fair to say but that's just how I feel. KH2 overall is REALLY overrated.
Opinions are opinions man. I think KH1 is a better game overall than 2 and am much more nostalgic for that game then I am 2. So I think claiming that for the reason behind my decision is a bit silly.

sora easily peaked with the PS2 games, kh1 for just its overall iconic design alongside it fitting the vibe perfectly and 2 for its straight up cool asf look, kh2 sora is easily one of my fav jrpg character designs.

I really like KH3 and Toy Box Sora. The Toy Box design has a lot of potential. I think it might inspire KH4's outfit.
My favorite would have to be 3, I actually never really liked his design in 2, too complicated or busy I think, while his original design is a nostalgia trip, and I have a fondness for his DDD outfit
Agreed ! My main complaint about kh2 design is that, not only it is too busy with questionable fashion taste (vertical zippers on shoes ?), but red is not it's central color when it is established as Sora's color, as reflected in his other designs.

KH2 Sora is just objectively the best Sora design and I can go on with that for hours, explaining shape appeal to the eye, color combinations and so much more...I can just prove it :D
Yeah, there was a brilliant amount of effort poured into Sora's world specific designs in Kingdom Hearts 2.
Y’know I used to really only like kh1 or 2 the best because I didn’t get why 3 and ddd placed sole emphasis on red…but now I see that it’s a real nice compliment to Donald and Goofy to complete the trio

I think KH1's design has the best design. Not that it's my favorite either, but I think it's important that it balanced both Disney and Final Fantasy in it, and KH2's Sora design, just like its story, signified a stray from the Disney aspect in favor of leaning harder into Final Fantasy. It makes him *cooler*, but scenes such as the Smash trailer wouldn't have been as heartfelt with it.
KH3 is good and bad. It's not as cool as KH2's and it's not as well balanced a KH1's, but I do think it accomplishes making Sora feel like an older, modern, human character running through Disney worlds, which works for the game. But it's not as memorable or whimsical.
KH2 Sora gets some points for its extra forms, though if we're just looking at his base designs, I think KH1 stands a better chance. (Not sure if it counts, but I do like inclusions such as oversized yoyos, magic guns, skates, etc. and even entire roller coasters to his arsenal, especially the latter, as it's something that feels like it could've been included since the first game. I imagine it would pair well with his KH1 design.)
My favourite design is kind of a toss up between 1 and 2, but I feel as though Halloween Town Sora begs to be mentioned. I was obsessed with both KH and NBC growing up.

I love the KH2 design, the KH1 design is just classic and his 3d design is a great transition with loads of style. But I have to say, the 3 design is my favourite. Its more mature/ "cool" than his 1 design, not as overcomplicated as his 2 design, and just feels like a natural evolution of the 3d design

Kingdom Hearts is my favorite video game franchise, thank you for covering Sora! But I have to disagree with you about his KH3 design, it’s actually my personal favorite design of his. I think it’s amazing. Might be the nostalgia around the hype/release of KH3 fueling it but still. Love KH3 Sora, think that design is super underrated
My favorite Sora design is actually the dream drop distance design, although not perfect it merges the 2 well (at least in my opinion)
I know this is a very commen thing fore animal and monster characters but I found it funny that in Soras monster form he wears no pants and no shoes.

Oddly specific I know, but fave has gotta be Smash Ultimate Sora in the KH2 outfit.
A detail you didn't mention was how the Timeless River design was essentially just Sora's KH1 design redone in a old-school cartoon style. It makes sense logically too, as the trio have to adapt when traveling back in time, so their outfits go back in time too, with Donald and Goofy adopting their classic Disney clothes and Sora getting his KH1 outfit back, symbolizing them going back in time.
WHERE'S V-CAST SORA!? Joking aside I quite like the Christmas Town design of Sora, how he still quite spooky but with the holiday spirit. I also like the Kingdom Hearts Manga look of him (I like the art style).

There's a reason why people remember Sora, no matter if you like or hate Kingdom Hearts. I like all his designs, but I'll just stick with the main outfits:
KH1 is classic. Though I'll admit, I did get a bit burned out after they kept using it more over the other designs. I wouldn't be surprised if people remember the outfit just because of how often they used it. I still like it though.
KH2 is a fan favorite for various reasons. I understand it's not everyone's style, but it's memorable due to it feeling like a natural evolution of the character. He feels more experienced and battle-ready, along with having the Drive forms that just pop with color and power. It almost felt like the outfit was a character in itself.
Dream Drop is divisive, mainly due to the game it appears in. DDD has its problems, but I personally didn't mind Sora's outfit. As for its appearance in Smash, the Wisdom form colors on it look great. It also doesn't help that it most likely served as a blueprint for the KH3 design, which also feels divisive.
Speaking of KH3, the outfit is fine. The design is not as complex as KH2 or DDD, but it lacks a charm that KH1 had. For one thing, the color palates are DULL. I'm not entirely sure how, but I like it better in Smash as said colors just look stronger. The forms this one has aren't as memorable unless it's focused on said form, like Second or Ultimate, because KH3 was so focused on the Keyblade Transformations. By doing that, the outfit and most of its variations just get lost in the shuffle.
And you know what's weird? KH1 outfit was his signature look, as we all know. The KH2 outfit was later intergraded into the story to replace said outfit due to outgrowing it and giving Sora more powers. Even the Dream Drop outfit was intergraded into DDD's story, despite the BS surrounding it.
How was the KH3 outfit intergraded? A new pair of clothes... That's it. Keyblade Transformations, the forms associated with them, its own set of new powers for Sora to use... never touched upon in the story AT ALL. The KH2 outfit wasn't outgrown, severely battle damaged, or even drained of the Drive forms! The only excuse is 'it wards off darkness like the black coats.'
Anyways, that's my two cents on Sora's character design. No matter what outfit's your favorite, we all know that Sora has style!

I don't consider 3's look realistic in the slightest. I also think it's greatest strength is that there isn't a sole color dominating the look with an even distribution of colors as opposed to the others which favor one color. It's also sleeker and not as visually busy as 2's. The best way to surpass this is by giving him sleeker pants and an open coat as long as the pirates look
I don't consider it realistic. But I feel like CGI as a style generally looks more realistic than a toon. Probably a terrible way of explaining things though.

KH3 Formchanges just don’t get any love, huh? Shame, I get it though, thanks to the combination of relatively realistic artstyle, focus on the weapons rather than the forms and the lack of unique visual effects on Sora, it’s hard for them to stand out.

There was also another design for Sora, along with Riku, Kairi, Roxas and Axel. I believe it was part of a fashion line that came out around KH3, which puts them in more modern, realistic clothes with a personal bag of some sort.
As for all of Sora's main designs, that is a hard choice. I have a lot of nostalgia towards KH1 and 2's designs and really like DDD's design. I don't own KH3 yet, so I haven't gone on that personal adventure with that Sora, but still think he looks cool. His forms are awesome too. The guy just has that anime/Disney charm and is one of my favorite characters of all time without a doubt.

You said that 3's design wouldn't be anyone's favorite design but it actually is mine. 3 was the first game I experienced and I've played most of the rest at this point and I'm sorry to say, the first game's design is just too silly looking for me to enjoy as much as 2 or 3. I do prefer 3 but mainly from an aesthetic standpoint, 2's is probably the one I like more because of all the drive forms and the game just being really good

I prefer the KH1 design because it’s reminiscent of Mickey Mouse and it’s simpler: less belts and chains and crosses. I know that Nomura loves belts on his characters, but I feel that it clutters the design.

1:47 Ik this is old, but Sora's name does NOT translate to sky. Japanese has 3 alphabets, and only in Kanji realistically could his name translate into anything. Sora's name is written in Katakana, which while initially used for foreign words, they're really just sounds that mean nothing.

I tend to favour his KHII design too, 1's is definitely the most iconic but II's is just a lot more slick and cool. I dislike the DDD design almost entirely just because of the bizarre choice to have Sora appear younger for no reason in that game. His KHIII design is OK IMO, apart from the shorter haircut which I think just looks off and ugly.

I'm in the minority on this one but personally, I can't STAND the KH2 Sora. I get the idea theme wise and in terms of the powers of the drive form, but the over usage of black and the belts and zippers just annoys me. To me it comes off like trying too hard, and knowing Nomura, I swear this was intentionally to troll those who complained about his over usage of zippers and belts. Especially on those friggin shoes! Seriously, WTH?! Its just goddy, ugly and awful to me! Plus with colour theory, KH1 Sora worked before with Donald and Goofy with the team being red, blue and green. But KH2 Sora and then on made it Black, Blue and Green. Just so they can give Mickey the red in KH2, and even then he still had the mix of red and black like in CoM and eventually KH3.
I know people have issues with KH3 Sora but it was never an issue for me as I thought it was better toned, simplified, and balanced the red more on his look rather than just attributing them to the pouches. And I grew up with KH1 Sora as that one is still my favourite of them that has nothing to do with nostalgia. To me its about the colours and appearance. I'm sorry man, but everytime I hear people praising Sora's KH2 design as "the best", I just hear the nostalgia talking, and I know that's not fair to say but that's just how I feel. KH2 overall is REALLY overrated.
Opinions are opinions man. I think KH1 is a better game overall than 2 and am much more nostalgic for that game then I am 2. So I think claiming that for the reason behind my decision is a bit silly.

Opinions on games aside, Sora’s KH2 design still just looks so cluttered and restrictive with those belts all over the place to me. And I know the kh1 design is silly but it has a weird charm to it. Sorry that I came on too strong though, that’s no excuse on my end.

sora easily peaked with the PS2 games, kh1 for just its overall iconic design alongside it fitting the vibe perfectly and 2 for its straight up cool asf look, kh2 sora is easily one of my fav jrpg character designs.
