Fun fact: When designing the Hero of Hyrule costume for Bayonetta they originally had a white undershirt covering up her cleavage, thinking Nintendo would like it. However, it was the opposite. Nintendo requested it be removed because it did not fit the character, which shocked them all. They also encountered a similar situation when deciding on how to make her Wicked Weave attacks more unique with the Peach and Daisy costumes, but Nintendo suggested they use Bowser.
Many gamers have the image of a traditional western conservative company in Nintendo (likely coming from the time they censored games on SNES, before ESRB was created, and the Wii casual friendly marketing) but the reality is far different, Nintendo focuses on family friendly games because thats what they do best, thats what brings them business, but of course they want ALL kind of content on their systems, including M rated games, they don't hate them or anything, when it came to the release of their first HD console they supported Bayonetta because its a good game in a genre they normally had zero presence, but they don't actually give a shit about the character as long as its fun and well made 🤭 Bayonetta helps them rebuild their image from "lol Nintendo is kiddy" to Nintendo is for everyone
Honestly, Bayo is one of those characters that looks good in anything. My favorite is the Bayo 2 costume. The pixie haircut really sells the whole look.
The thing for me is that her first hair style looked silly to me. Her second lol ok with he shorter cut makes her look so much more mature. I am not a fan of the hair style they went with in 3 but I really like the outfit. Bayo is a complicated character when it comes to design.
I honestly do not like Bayo 2’s default outfit. I feel in love with Bayo back in 09, and haven’t enjoyed her design since the release of the Bayo 3 trailers. I bemoan the huge chunk of sexuality lost to the new “Bayonetta” (read “Cereza”) but her design going back to very long hair is a much welcomed one. I have never liked the pixie cut and my wife and I have very long hair, so I have to admit I’m biased.
2:08 fun fact about this; the higher ups at sega(?) insisted the glasses be removes from her design, so kamiya, in spite, not only pushed through and kept her glasses but also snuck glasses onto every single character's design in the first game.
They kept with it in 2 I believe, Loki has goggles around his neck, and Aesir has his diamond face covering, although whether that can be considered glasses or not is to interpretation
I think I'm alone when I say my favourite is actually her "old" costume within the games. the puffed out pants and outfit give her an amazing silhouette, add it to the butterfly mask and hood she wears makes her look like a medieval assasin. add the long beautiful flowing hair and it's the perfect mix of medieval, gothic, femenine assasin. its frickin gorgeous. How I wish it was in smash
I mean, the umbra witches were medieval assassins at that time, it is stated that's how they bested the lumen sages in their war. so yeah, she didn't just only look like one XD
I absolutely love her Medieval Witch outfit for many reasons! It is the “prototype” for her modern design, with the updo hair hidden underneath a hood and the witchy symbolism woven throughout- it feels exactly how the same box art Bayonetta would have dressed 500 years ago and why she dresses that way today albeit modernized for the everyday witch. If you compare that particular outfit to what the other Umbra Witches were wearing during that time- (that includes Jeanne, the Elder, the Apprentices, and even Rosa!) she appears as part of their clan, but not quite. The other witches have more stylish and detailed costumes, symbolizing their ranks among the Umbran Clan, and all made of nice materials. And while Bayonetta’s outfit does keep in theme, upon closer inspection the material is frayed and tattered at the ends and appears to be well-worn or secondhand. Perhaps she had to scavenge around for scraps of clothing as she was the black sheep of the clan, yet still wanted something somewhat fashionable to fit in with her peers (but to no avail.) This is very evident when you look at Bayonetta and Jeanne’s designs during the Battle for the Umbra Throne fight. You can even compare her toy cat Cheshire- he was made from scraps and cloth by Rosa who did the best she could to provide her outcast daughter with a toy like the other children, and Jeanne had a professionally made cat toy named Charles (whose name I believe is a reference to Charles Dodgson, the author of Alice in Wonderland.) The last detail is her butterfly mask, which is a very big motif for the character. Her mother Rosa appears to have a matching pair with her, and most of not all of the Umbran Witches have glasses or a facial mask of sorts, to hide their identities and at the same time embrace their identity as witches. I adore the costume design and details of this game and I love how they are still talked about!!!
Bayo 1 has the best design in my opinion . It’s the most high fashion of the three and far more *sculpted* . The beehive is a very very niche hairstyle and seeing it used in a game from 2009 is crazy . The main kicker for me is the darkness that it has , the other two are so light hearted and lack the edge the first one has . Bayonetta kinda lost the darkness for me with the 2nd game , that part of her character seemed to vanish . The red in her design pops out against the greys of the environment . It’s just avant-garde as hell .
I feel like Bayo 2's pixie cut just fits her character so much, though I do love the red, gold, and black color scheme of the first game. And her first outing is instantly recognizable with a striking silhouette, thanks to her tall hairstyle. Bayo 3's design is the most fun to look at though imo. It's a lot busier than her other designs with a lot of frills and loose parts. Fits more in line with her dancing background as she looks like she's wearing a tutu. I also love how the braids continue all the way to the back and it makes a huge bow, it's a really neat touch. And I love that the gold and red is back, with some purple to make her stand out that much more. So, I feel like 1 is the most recognizable and iconic, 2's best captures her personality, and 3's expands on her extravagant behavior and dancing. I love how different they are from each other, and they're all top-tier chatacter designs in my eyes.
Her original design is absolutely gorgeous, but Bayonetta 2’s design truly speaks to the character herself. If we think about it, in Bayonetta 1, she was in a lake for 500 years and her outfit is therefore a “default” umbra witch costume, which is why Jeanne’s white one is an exact replica. Come Bayonetta 2, she finally takes the time to customise herself, to show the world who she truly is with her memories. That is what makes the sequel design so special. THIS is Bayonetta.
didn't jeanne change into the exact same outfit as bayonetta during the credits of 2 but with her own watch and in white to match her hair color? the flavor text for both the bayonetta 1 and 2 outfits describe them as “uniforms” as well.
@@veilego i see that more as an easy way to add another skin for jeanne and milk what they can out of the amazing design. A good decision, but not important enough to discredit the meaning behind the outfit change
Those are obviously not what every Umbra witch wore, the Umbran witches wore more cloth like hair woven clothes compared Bayo's default, her real 500 yo outfit is literally called OLD. Jeanne's umbran uniform is just to show that she's Bayonetta's other half, that and they're the last of their kind - and Bayonetta being the inheritor of the left eye, Bayonetta is the leader of the Umbra. (She's proven she's the stronger Umbra countless times) They had their fight interrupted the first time they sparred for the title, it was more a motivation on Jeanne's part as she was the rightful heir to the clan, but the original fight was interrupted by the angels attacking as they began the witch hunts. It was pretty much an overlooked motive of Jeanne in the first game, to fight Bayonetta at her strongest, to know the outcome of their sparring match 500 years ago.
I absolutely love the new design of the upcoming Bayo 3! Such a clever and inventive interpratation, making her look more youthful and "girlish", almost cute with this one. I like how even her movements and dancing reflect this youthfulness; it's almost bouncy and so joyful! I hope that some of these theories prove to be true and this is an older and more confident alternate Cereza. Great video as always, had to instantly click as soon as it popped up for me!
Bayo 2 has my personal favorite design, the sharper look feels sleeker and the blue feels extremely powerful and more mature. Maybe it was because it was my first time seeing her, but the accessories and guns caught my eye more than the first. Not to mention the small ruffles on her gloves and collar, slightly reminiscent of old English styles. Not to mention how much the blues contrasted from the dark red color scheme of inferno, my favorite part of the game. I’m so excited for Bayo 3, the colors and design of the whole game seem so much sharper and geometric, her design in this may not be my favorite, it has elements that are extremely exciting to see, a new style on her.
I think it's hard to choose a favourite considering how much meaning went behind every single design element that makes up who Bayonetta is as a character and how she ties into the games narrative. But initially before I watched the video I actually would've went with the Bayo 2 design but that was mainly bc I was only introduced to her when the second game was coming and that was also her default costume for Smash 4 and Ultimate.
If it wasn’t for the release of Bayonetta 3’s new design, I would’ve 100% agree with you on her best design (personal taste) being the Bayonetta 1’s. But I gotta say 3 has really been growing on me and I like it as much, if not more than the 1st. The first thing that caught my eye was her new hairstyle and how it gives her an innocent yet, sexy look. I love the red hair bands curling down with her hair. And the high callers compliments her pronounce, smooth jawline. It all frames her face very nicely. Then the big braids/bow coming down behind her hips along with her skirt gives her a more curvy look. And of course I love the mix of purple, gold and red here. Further more and to reiterate myself a bit, I’m a sucker for girls in double braids, especially if their puffy. And for her to have the bow tide like a braid, well that’s like heaven for me. Okay, I gotta give it to Bayonetta 3 as the favorite design. I just absolutely love it
Between the first two, I prefer the first look. Red suits her better (though she looks great in blue as well) also her hair was intentionally designed to resemble a witch hat! I love that detail! Still the second outfit resembling robes of some kind is a gorgeous addition in my opinion. As for the third, I want to say it’s my favorite out of them all but that’s just because I am biased towards the gothic lolita style so it’s more a me thing and less a Bayonetta thing. I do definitely think it’s the perfect outfit for the new game considering the previous two were connected to her past.
I do agree that her original design is more striking and iconic, but gosh...I am such a sucker for pixiecuts. 2 feels more regal and defined to me, where 1 is going for pretty much just flat-out sex appeal. 3 seems like a pretty good fusion of the two. It's arguably her most modest design yet, which I find quite intriguing.
the thing i absolutely love about her original design in bayonetta 1 and what makes it my favorite design of hers is just how dynamic it is. even from a basic visual standpoint, you can see just how clean her outfit is-all the lines flow into each other (especially important considering her entire suit is supposed to be made of her hair) without any clashing elements. its simplicity gives it a sense of boldness, the outfit perfectly encapsulates bayonetta's aura of class and elegance. the level of character to the original design goes even deeper though, her beehive hairstyle is a detail as you mentioned is meant to parallel the stereotypical witch's hat with modernized, high fashion sensibilities. you may have missed the connection between her concept as a witch and her signature set of weapons being named after a traditional folk ballad. the guns' individual names come from herbs mentioned in the song, which ties into the association with witches' magic to herbs. rosemary, one of her guns' names, is even referenced within the plot-both its status as a demon repellent and also a symbol for bayonetta's journey to uncover her past. bayonetta's design told even more of her story in the first game, as her black and red color palette paralleled her with jeanne-her rival in the plot. jeanne also wears red and black but her palette is an invert to bayonetta's, hinting at their closeness with each other while fitting the strange circumstances that pit them against each other. during the final portions of the game where bayonetta and jeanne connect over the past and start to work together, jeanne even changes into the same outfit as bayonetta's (albeit in her contrasting white hair)-visually representing their "sisterhood" as umbra witches. while i do love the bayonetta 2 designs visually, i cant help but miss the symbolism and character of the original design. its sad to see most of that thought process and design philosophy didn't come through to bayonetta 2. bayonetta moved onto blue as her main color while jeanne didn't get a blue suit to match too, breaking apart the visual cohesion that symbolized so much about their relationship. her signature weapons were named after a 60s song, their individual names coming from various unrelated musical terms completely secularized from witchcraft. her hairstyle was changed to a basic pixie cut. again i have nothing on the bayonetta 2 design, it's a great design in its own right-it's just that the original bayonetta design is too perfect. it's so perfect that i'm not sure how bayonetta's design could have been changed up and evolved or otherwise improved without sacrificing the symbolic details that flesh out her concept as a modern witch. while i'm a bit disappointed in the overall aesthetic of bayonetta 3 so far from what i've seen, bayonetta's design herself looks quite interesting in that game and touches upon the symbolic aspects i was missing from the 2's design with the braids, ribbons, and fairy-tale style ensemble. can't wait to see more of her!
It's between 1 and 3 for me, because personally I feel like with such an emphasis on hair for her powers 2's shorter hair just doesn't feel right, even if it fits her personality best. Either way I love them all, their all 10s. But I'm also gonna go with 1 as I feel that design has a better silhouette, even tho I think I might like 3' s design a bit more
What I also really love about her original design is that her hair gave her in-game model very dynamic element - very flowing and flexible, a bit like the cape of Alucard in Castlevania SOTN. It's just fun to look at. Her "old" costume in Bayo 1 has her hair open, similar to Jeanne in Bayo 2. I don't mind short hairstyles, but she loses some of her esoteric, witch - like appeal - she looks more like a regular human now, less mysterious, and less intimidating. Her Naruto Run animation when equipped with the dual swords also looks hilariously out of place. Bayo 2 just looks too cold for my taste. Thankfully the witch apprentice outfit looks super cool to make up for it, and I love the Bayo 2 iteration of Jeanne a lot. Absolutely love her design in 3. She looks more warm, with the rounder face, the bigger glasses and the thick braids, both more mature and a bit more playful at the same time. Great video!
Her look in Bayo 2 is my favourite but I'm a sucker for girls with short hair. 3 is my least favorite, cause I prefer the more sleak look of the previous games, and her make-up is a little gaudy.
I think it's hilarious how her Samus alternate costume is based on the Varia suit opposed to the more fitting the Zero suit. But I kinda like it. For however corny the Nintendo costumes are, at least they weren't just her bodysuit recoloured.
I think the witch hat look of the first design is cool but 2’s design is way more modern and even cooler in my opinion. I’m also loving the pigtails wrapping around her into a bow on her back in the new design. I just hope 3 has costumes of the first 2 designs like 2 had with 1’s outfit. Then everybody wins
Oooh this is going to be incredibly smooth, hot and sexy! Always been a big fan of Bayonetta's design as there's so many beautiful concepts behind her and future designs! Glad your doing coverage on your awesome channel! Clicked right away!❤
After looking at all these beautiful designs, everyone of them is an artistic marvel that gets better and better! Overall...it all comes down to who started it all before it evolves! Great job ob the coverage because this was hard to choose!( personally I loved the Nintendo centric designs too!)
Tbh bayo 2 ate. Her design just screams bayonetta and like the pixie cut is just amazing. My fav change by far was the cape made of her hair, looked really stylish
I agree, the first design is my favourite too. Black red and gold is such a good color combo. (Though it's uncanny how much she looks like my uncle...)
as a mexican i may be super biased but i love her costume in Bayonetta 3 the best because its very mexican looking to me with the braided ribboned hair and the dress with floral designs it almost looks like a modern and more youthful and girly version of a huipil similar to little Cereza in the first game. i’ve always thought bayo was a mexican witch who was raised in Vigrid with the rest of the witches. we know that witches come from all over the world based on the accessories lore. and her name is Cereza and she’s called “Cerezita”. very mexican if you ask me lol sure you could argue that she’s spanish but the hairstyle is VERY mexican. oh and her mom’s name is Rosa!
One thing that bothers me a bit in the second outfit but the first and third do well is showing where and how her hair connects to her suit. The short hair does look good on her but it feels strange not to see any hair bridging into the suit. Even more so when she uses her wicked weaves and it seems like just the hair at the nape of her neck is what makes the suit while the rest of it is just for show. As for the third outfit being more loose and puffy, I think it makes sense because it relies less on outright exposing the shape of her body and more on being tastefully sexy
I personally prefer the Bayonetta from part 1, it doesn't get more iconic than that! I like the elegant, gilded style and the cool hair tied together. Maybe it's because red is my favorite color. I don't know. Anyway, I think that the first design is unbeatable! But I also find the design of the 3rd game interesting. A mix of old-fashioned and over-the-top modern. Even the skirt fits, as if it was made for that purpose. Well, despite everything, I find the outfit of the first part the very best! I personally didn't find her design change in the 2nd part of the series particularly fitting or appealing. Just the fact that her red signature hairbands are missing.... I mean yes: The new Outfit does look very modern and edgy, but I think the whole edgy style doesn't stand up as much as the other two versions. Despite all that, a really well done video! Underated channel! 10/10!. Greetings from Germany: Lars Ps.: (my grammar isn't the best, hope it is all somehow understandable. Please do not be too strict xD)
Having now played Bayonetta 3 and spent some time with the new design, for me the order is Bayonetta 1, 3, and then 2 from favourite to least. Having said that, they're all absolutely incredible, not a bad design in the bunch and each one is very memorable.
I love all of her designs and its part of Bayonetta's character. The first game called 'A witch with no memory' is an iconic look. With the beehive hairstyle and the hints of red with bright gold metallics combined with the sleek catsuit. In her sequel Bayonetta took on a more modern trendy style as to probably fit in with the current time frame. She keeps the catsuit but replaces the hair like wings into a shawl like over piece. The pallete also became more cool toned with the gold and red being swapped to silver and blue. And with her upcoming third game people are speculating theories but the main idea is behind her design. The poofy sleeved dress, pigtail braids, the rounder framed glasses, the pink eyeshdows and her more fun form of dancing in her summons are callbacks to her when she was a kid. And theories are going wild with it. I love all of her desings because the 1st one is a kick off to her iconic style the sequel gives it a mordern twist and the third is a call back to her childhood look.
To be fair, I do agree. The first design is my favorite of the trilogy, but I'll need to play bayo 3 to see if her new design is my favorite... but to be honest, I'm in love with the puffy braids with the third outfit. It had this grand sort of heart shape to them.
I'm on the same side as well, the first design just clean and easy to the eyes, eventho it's highly detailed it's still gives a clean silhouette with the long hair sleeve and long ribbons adding to the movement, the second one I don't really fancy the cape but the body suit is reminiscent of the first one, the third one i think I need to see it with my own eyes in the game before judging. Kinda wish you talked about the additional wardrobe for the first and second game as well.
The only thing that concerned me in the bayo 3 trailer was that bayonetta clothes didn't magically come off when she was summoning the demon. So 0 out of 10. Not my Bayo Nah, I'm joking. Her new design looks fantastic. Though her clothes coming off when summoning monsters or parts of them is a strange part of her identity
The way I see it, its because in this version of Bayonetta (SPOILERS AHEAD): She has full control of the Left Eye of Darkness she possesses. Notice that her Witch Time in the trailer now has a Cosmic aesthetic, rather than a clock-based one. And where have we seen a similar aesthetic? Aesir, the God who gave the Eyes of the World to Humanity
I do hope there is something funky going on with this new Bayonetta design for 3, because while it looks really cool, something feels off with her. I'm not crazy on how much younger she looks, acts and dresses, it makes her feel a bit less unique among other female videogame characters since I always saw Bayonetta as a more mature-looking woman (ignoring the fact that duh, she's over 500 years old). And her glasses!! They're fine but...I really really really miss her old, slim glasses, they're so iconic to me that changing them feels weird!! Also not over her voice actress changing, it bothers me so much in the trailer when she says the word "dance" but not with the same accent inflection as her original voice, it throws me off. Such a minor thing to complain about in the grand scheme but damn it irritates me. Obviously still very excited for 3, I've been waiting for so long to see anything from it since I screamed like a monkey when it was announced in 2017. I like the look of that new demon controlling combat stuff, I just hope it doesn't overshadow the core close-quarters melee combat. DMC5 spoiled me big-time so I want Bayonetta 3 to at least *try* to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with its older brother series, especially considering I got into DMC because of Bayonetta. EDIT: Also I think I'm on Team Bayo 2 for favourite design. I still love her original look, especially when you use it in Bayo 2 with the more vibrant colour palette (Bayo 1 is kinda ugly), but there's just something about the design in 2 that really clicks for me and captures more of her cheeky energy. Also the blue motif is gorgeous so that's definitely a big part of it for me.
@@ArtistMarkFlynn Yeah I kinda hope so, some kind of alternate timeline version of Bayonetta/Cereza and maybe the original one is still out there somewhere. It definitely can't be a normal prequel (like DMC3) because the game is set in modern Tokyo and Bayonetta is uh...very old.
Everyone always says the jewelry/chains color looks golden but I see it as a more copper/bronze tone. I figured they would go with a bronze color to show that this is the third game, and what color medal do you get when you come in third, Bronze.
as amazing and iconic as the first game's design is, i am a gigantic sucker for women with short hair, so bayo2 is my favourite. the pixie cut really fits her character bayo3 is also an amazing design that clearly manages to portray a younger, "straight out of highschool" sort of person with many of its aspects, including even the dancing she performs to do her summons, which is noticeably clumsier(?) compared to her dancing in the first two games. i dont know how to describe it, but theres a great deal of noticeable differences between the end credits dancing in the first game and what we were shown in the trailer. either way i love bayonetta and all of her designs. i am very excited for the third game and i really wonder if platinum is gonna throw another curveball at us and let us play as this young cereza for a little bit until something happens and she needs saving from our original timeline bayo from 1 and 2. who knows, maybe our bayonetta will also have a whole new design for 3 as well! anyway great video! this contained a bunch more trivia than other videos ive seen on the subject, and i was very surprised to see you touch upon the wonderful101 too. will you ever do a video on jeanne or the rest of the cast as a whole?
I have to agree with King bash here cause the bayonetta got really good characters designers and I will admit the first costume looks good I like the blue and purple equally and more than the red one mostly because I'm a cool color kind of person but be honest all of them are good but that's my preference.
My favorite design has to be her first design. While I will admit that there is a bit of nostalgia bias in why, I just can't help but absolutely adore her first design. Her third design I still need to get used to and while her second design is also really nice, it just can't beat the first imo.
As for personal tastes, I like Bayonetta 2 the best (thought the short hair raises troubling questions when you consider her entire outfit is still technically made from hair). I do like how Bayonetta 3's look appears to be a sort of center point between all three designs for Bayonetta up to this point (Including Cereza)
Even tho I love the Devil May Cry series, I never much cared for Bayonetta. Her design for the third game, tho, with the more human proportions of her legs and head, looking less like a stick bug or an alien from Kamino, and her overall hair and dress made me actually interested on things to come. So that would be 3 for me.
2 > 3 > 1 I find no surprising that her third design took off with fans over at social media so fast. Her first original outfit is still good, but I prefer the newer ones.
Sphere Hunter isn't the only to come up with that theory peopy have been trying to predict the plot of Bayonetta 3 for years and even said that when the trailer was released. For some reason SH is people's go to person for action games so they get all the credit huh? Oh well.
I'm going to piss off a lot of people, but I really do not like the Bayonetta 3 design. The poofiness of the skirt, sleeves, and braids seem so heavy and clunky, there's an overload of content going around her design especially on the shoulder area. And the skirt being all fringe feels weird that the physics make it disturbing to the eye, and the bodysuit underneath doesn't help make the skirt glow either. There's barely any room to breathe. They removed so many important elements from her too. The cameltoe that was such an iconic thing about her fashion taste is now hidden underneath the skirt, and not in a sexy manner, it's just hidden. The thin lining that's supposed to reveal her skin against her leg is littered with spiral flowery patterns that clashed with the fringes of her skirt, the patterns of the jewelry, and the blacker embellishments on her dress. Those small spaces to breathe supposedly to reveal a bit of her leg becomes extra cluttered with that design. And the extra fringes underneath her puffy sleeves is an eyesore too. There's already so much going on with her puffy sleeves, there had to be the fringe too? And the sleeves next to her thick braids? Make it so hard to see where her neck starts and ends, where her shoulders actually are since I can mistake her braids for her sleeves. Lastly her bow and braided "bow-ribbons" behind her.. it's supposed to replace her flowing hair physics that were present in the first two designs, but it's even clunkier than before. If from the front, the design looks top heavy, from behind, the design looks bottom heavy. If this is supposed to balance things out, it looks like an eyesore since Bayo is supposed to have long flowing physics, whether it's her hair or her ribbons. The clunkiness of her braids from the front to the back make her look heavy to the point that I question how she even jumps from Madama Butterfly's hand sometimes. It doesn't flow, it bounces, which drags her behind. I very much prefer her prototype where her braids actually fall down behind her like Rosa's veil does. Now her bow barely even moves. I like that they added nails to her gloves though, that's glamorous. My problem is that, if in the first two designs, the embellishments on her gloves are subtle, there's too much information going in with the tree pattern of gold on her gloves. Next, why couldn't they change her ribbons from red to purple? It would flow much better with her color palette since the red clashes badly with the rest of her design. They coulr have justified that she just dyed the ribbons. I also somehow dislike that they changed her face since it looks low res compared to Bayo 2's beautiful face. Fortunately Creative Handle modded Bayo3 costume into Bayo1's face so it still works somehow.. I also somehow dislike the pale color of her lipstick shade. It's just too pale for her shade. I like her eyeshadow though. Overall again with the gold jewelry, there's just way too much of it all over her design.. And her silhouette overhaul just... Somehow it removes so many iconic aspects of Bayonetta. She's very much less sexy in Bayo3, less dom too (i blame her relationship with Luka), less.. dance-y? Ironically? Like there are less striking lines and poses in her choreograpgy compared to 1 and 2. Her dances are stiffer and more awkward, they don't flow as well as they used too. I do like that they're bouncier, but the elbow work is somehow very awkward and clunky, and don't even mention the final dance... It feels like she's just a more awkward version of the queenboss we once knew as Bayonetta. And it's weird because this CAN work if the execution was better and cleaner too. She can be less sexy in her new dances, but still flowy if she tries. Her design can be more digestible if there was less. Her silhouette can be more balanced if it was... Well, balanced more. Her Cereza and the Lost Demon design works better imo even though she's supposed to be a lot younger. She could use the gloves though, and more "hair" incorporated into the costume, but i love that at least something flows right. And it's much cleaner and more digestible. If the textures were more enhanced and they actually used the silhouette of that outfit in the final game, I would have a much harder time deciding my favorite outfit. But I have to go for Bayo1. Red is beautiful on her, it's the color of aggression and passion for me. Her skintight leathery costume makes her look almost naked, but I love that story element to it because she's tryint to find herself and she was still lost and afraid, according to Jeanne. It's like she's trying to strip herself and her memories to get to find herself and I love it. Though I would prefer if there were more physics of hair coming down from her beehive like the concept art depicts, otherwise her beehive hair transitioning to her suit always looked awkward and stiff to me-a problem Bayo2's design solved with the flowing cape hair in her front. My problem with that design is that her cape covers most of her body most of the time, but I love the changes it brings to her personality too. And man, what did they to do Jeanne??? She just.. looks like a whole clown in the third game, i can't
What about her shoes in 3? I love her 3 design, but there's too much to explain and I can't be bothered. I'll just say my favourite parts are her feet, shoulders, legs, and back. It's a shame there aren't more people replying to this comment.
The 2nd look for me. The 3rd isn't something I'd expect for a witch, if you ask me the 3rd design sells the mystery part of Bayos design with the little dress highlighting Bayonetta playful nature when it comes to fighting.
Personally I do not believe that Bayonetta (cereza) in Bayonetta 3 is the younger version of her being cereza. In the first game she was taken back to her own time. And seeing how strong she is in this game and the control over her internal demons this could not be younger cereza. Cereza (Bayonetta) was taken back to her own time and she grew up into Bayonetta, and seeing through Bayonetta (cerezas) memories in the first game this most likely isn't it. Even if it was though that implies, that most likely we really messed up the timeline in the first two games which is unlikely. So this Bayonetta (cereza) is probably based off a magical girl or an idol. It seem, as if the game takes place In Japan, and her skirt and the puffy sleeves are probably idol inspired and inspired off of cereza, and with the her style changing throughout the game this is probably just a reference or she wanted a new haircut¯\_༼ •́ ͜ʖ •̀ ༽_/¯
3>2>1 3 is 1 design but better imo, i don't like the suit in Bayonetta 1 because its just plain, they did a great job with the redesign in 2. But in 3 she adds a lot of details to her dress while still looking unique with her hairstyle
Just another thing that makes her amazing. Her hair DOES come from past witches,in the past people believed that a witch's power comes from the hair, the more hair the more power, thus most woman who where considered witches had their hair cut.
I have to say her newest design is my most favorite so far. It has a very "magical girl" kind of feel to it, which is fitting considering I'm pretty sure Bayonetta 3's setting is taking place in Japan. The bow in the back, her braids, the fact she has transformation mechanics, even the poses she's doing in the trailers makes me feel nostalgic for Sailor Moon and other anime I grew up watching as a kid. It feels very fresh and fits with her personality in the sense she's not the type to settle for the same old thing. She's always trying something new, but she's always herself no matter what. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if she got an actual Sailor Moon costume as one of her alternate looks. I'm so hyped
Those Bowser weaves are my favorite thing about the games on Nintendo platforms
Honestly I’m a little bummed that they didn’t animate Bowser as Gomorrah or Madama Butterfly 😂
@@im_learning_bicth yeah that would’ve been awesome lol
Many gamers have the image of a traditional western conservative company in Nintendo (likely coming from the time they censored games on SNES, before ESRB was created, and the Wii casual friendly marketing) but the reality is far different, Nintendo focuses on family friendly games because thats what they do best, thats what brings them business, but of course they want ALL kind of content on their systems, including M rated games, they don't hate them or anything, when it came to the release of their first HD console they supported Bayonetta because its a good game in a genre they normally had zero presence, but they don't actually give a shit about the character as long as its fun and well made 🤭
Bayonetta helps them rebuild their image from "lol Nintendo is kiddy" to Nintendo is for everyone
@@astraldog3359 nah. Their image right now is "Nintendo is for money" and that's it.
Honestly, Bayo is one of those characters that looks good in anything. My favorite is the Bayo 2 costume. The pixie haircut really sells the whole look.
Bit surprised how much love 2 has got. So jarring for me that one is lol.
The thing for me is that her first hair style looked silly to me. Her second lol ok with he shorter cut makes her look so much more mature. I am not a fan of the hair style they went with in 3 but I really like the outfit. Bayo is a complicated character when it comes to design.
Sameeeee
I honestly do not like Bayo 2’s default outfit. I feel in love with Bayo back in 09, and haven’t enjoyed her design since the release of the Bayo 3 trailers. I bemoan the huge chunk of sexuality lost to the new “Bayonetta” (read “Cereza”) but her design going back to very long hair is a much welcomed one. I have never liked the pixie cut and my wife and I have very long hair, so I have to admit I’m biased.
Also, Bayo 3 has a lot of make-up. Like, a lot. Not sure how I feel about that
2:08 fun fact about this; the higher ups at sega(?) insisted the glasses be removes from her design, so kamiya, in spite, not only pushed through and kept her glasses but also snuck glasses onto every single character's design in the first game.
My fave factoid.
They kept with it in 2 I believe, Loki has goggles around his neck, and Aesir has his diamond face covering, although whether that can be considered glasses or not is to interpretation
Luka is the exception tho. He doesn't get glasses until Bayonetta 2. Kinda Balder too ig, considering he wears a monacle.
Luka does wear them in a portion of the game tho when Ceraza lets him wear her glasses
My favorite is her first design too, so iconic, the black and red combination and the hair like a witch hat PERFECT
correct
I think I'm alone when I say my favourite is actually her "old" costume within the games. the puffed out pants and outfit give her an amazing silhouette, add it to the butterfly mask and hood she wears makes her look like a medieval assasin. add the long beautiful flowing hair and it's the perfect mix of medieval, gothic, femenine assasin. its frickin gorgeous. How I wish it was in smash
It is , most of her costumes in the first one are 10/10z
It's a favorite of mine as well. It's my go-to outfit whenever I'm playing Bayo 1.
I mean, the umbra witches were medieval assassins at that time, it is stated that's how they bested the lumen sages in their war.
so yeah, she didn't just only look like one XD
I love this costume! I use it all the time, it’s very beautiful!
You can even compare her toy cat Cheshire- he was made from scraps and cloth by Rosa who did the best she could to provide her outcast daughter with a toy like the other children, and Jeanne had a professionally made cat toy named Charles (whose name I believe is a reference to Charles Dodgson, the author of Alice in Wonderland.)
The last detail is her butterfly mask, which is a very big motif for the character. Her mother Rosa appears to have a matching pair with her, and most of not all of the Umbran Witches have glasses or a facial mask of sorts, to hide their identities and at the same time embrace their identity as witches.
I adore the costume design and details of this game and I love how they are still talked about!!!
The truth is they’re all 10/10 designs and it’s down to the little details about which you prefer. For me 2 is the GOAT.
I wouldn’t say they’re all 10/10. For me 2 is 12/10, 1 is like 6/10, and 3 is 4/10.
@@natbarton755 I respect the opinion, for me 1 is 8/10, 2 is 7/10 and 3 is 12/10. I really like the little cereza reference lmao
2 is disgusting it’s a fashion abomination
@@akhlasahmed7336 In the world of fashion, "abomination" is a compliment.
@@NIHIL_EGO it’s really not
I honestly am really loving 3's design. It's way different but in a good way. Her dance animation is also amazing in every regard.
Yeah same here! Different but great!
Bayo 2 has the best design in my opinion. She looks so mature and "modern". While in Bayo 1, she looks like an ancient witch.
I hadn't thought of that
@@veilego i see that more as an easy way to add another skin for jeanne and milk what they can out of the amazing design.
(She's proven she's the stronger Umbra countless times)
They had their fight interrupted the first time they sparred for the title, it was more a motivation on Jeanne's part as she was the rightful heir to the clan, but the original fight was interrupted by the angels attacking as they began the witch hunts.
I like how instead of teasing ridley's video at the end as a stinger Mark just casually dropped it in the middle.
It takes a special person to make the beehive hairdo work
I like Bayo 2 the most when I think of bayo I always picture that look, the short hair works so well
Bayo 1 is always gonna have a special place in my heart but the fact all 3 designs are so viable as being the best is amazing
I just absolutely love it
Yeah 3's design looks great as well! Hyped for that game for sure now.
So much pixie cut love in the comments lol
the thing i absolutely love about her original design in bayonetta 1 and what makes it my favorite design of hers is just how dynamic it is. even from a basic visual standpoint, you can see just how clean her outfit is-all the lines flow into each other (especially important considering her entire suit is supposed to be made of her hair) without any clashing elements. its simplicity gives it a sense of boldness, the outfit perfectly encapsulates bayonetta's aura of class and elegance. the level of character to the original design goes even deeper though, her beehive hairstyle is a detail as you mentioned is meant to parallel the stereotypical witch's hat with modernized, high fashion sensibilities.
you may have missed the connection between her concept as a witch and her signature set of weapons being named after a traditional folk ballad. the guns' individual names come from herbs mentioned in the song, which ties into the association with witches' magic to herbs. rosemary, one of her guns' names, is even referenced within the plot-both its status as a demon repellent and also a symbol for bayonetta's journey to uncover her past.
bayonetta's design told even more of her story in the first game, as her black and red color palette paralleled her with jeanne-her rival in the plot. jeanne also wears red and black but her palette is an invert to bayonetta's, hinting at their closeness with each other while fitting the strange circumstances that pit them against each other. during the final portions of the game where bayonetta and jeanne connect over the past and start to work together, jeanne even changes into the same outfit as bayonetta's (albeit in her contrasting white hair)-visually representing their "sisterhood" as umbra witches.
while i do love the bayonetta 2 designs visually, i cant help but miss the symbolism and character of the original design. its sad to see most of that thought process and design philosophy didn't come through to bayonetta 2. bayonetta moved onto blue as her main color while jeanne didn't get a blue suit to match too, breaking apart the visual cohesion that symbolized so much about their relationship. her signature weapons were named after a 60s song, their individual names coming from various unrelated musical terms completely secularized from witchcraft. her hairstyle was changed to a basic pixie cut.
again i have nothing on the bayonetta 2 design, it's a great design in its own right-it's just that the original bayonetta design is too perfect. it's so perfect that i'm not sure how bayonetta's design could have been changed up and evolved or otherwise improved without sacrificing the symbolic details that flesh out her concept as a modern witch. while i'm a bit disappointed in the overall aesthetic of bayonetta 3 so far from what i've seen, bayonetta's design herself looks quite interesting in that game and touches upon the symbolic aspects i was missing from the 2's design with the braids, ribbons, and fairy-tale style ensemble. can't wait to see more of her!
It's between 1 and 3 for me, because personally I feel like with such an emphasis on hair for her powers 2's shorter hair just doesn't feel right, even if it fits her personality best. Either way I love them all, their all 10s. But I'm also gonna go with 1 as I feel that design has a better silhouette, even tho I think I might like 3' s design a bit more
I know what you mean, the short hair is so jarring to me lol
The beehive is so camp, I love it.
YES. thank you!
So fucking camp , like who thinks of a characters design and goes hmm lemme give her a beehive. Truly camp .
Her look in Bayo 2 is my favourite but I'm a sucker for girls with short hair. 3 is my least favorite, cause I prefer the more sleak look of the previous games, and her make-up is a little gaudy.
Even h though the bayo 2 design is gorgeous I can't help but love the original design, it's just the right amount of simple but effective.
I think it's hilarious how her Samus alternate costume is based on the Varia suit opposed to the more fitting the Zero suit.
But I kinda like it. For however corny the Nintendo costumes are, at least they weren't just her bodysuit recoloured.
The varia suit is iconic! I'm glad they stuck with the classic design
@@KaitouKaiju agreed! even if certain artists might think otherwise ... ....
I hope we get a zero suit designed tho!
Absolutely agree with you, that desing is the best for me, and is the sexiest version of Cereza, not only in her appearence, in her attitude too ~
In 3 she just looks dangerous, I don't know how to describe it but it makes her my favorite
Oooh this is going to be incredibly smooth, hot and sexy! Always been a big fan of Bayonetta's design as there's so many beautiful concepts behind her and future designs! Glad your doing coverage on your awesome channel! Clicked right away!❤
I like bayonetta 3’s the most, it looks cute and the reference to little cereza is just wonderful. Out of the first two tho, i prefer 1
The way bayo carried herself in the first game made me like her design more.
Favorite is 3 it really has grown on me. Actually most costumes from bayo have to grow on me at first.
Definitely agree, our girl looks good and I love the bayo 2 outfit but bayo 1 takes the cake in every way
FINALLY! Thank you Mark!
as a mexican i may be super biased but i love her costume in Bayonetta 3 the best because its very mexican looking to me with the braided ribboned hair and the dress with floral designs it almost looks like a modern and more youthful and girly version of a huipil similar to little Cereza in the first game. i’ve always thought bayo was a mexican witch who was raised in Vigrid with the rest of the witches. we know that witches come from all over the world based on the accessories lore. and her name is Cereza and she’s called “Cerezita”. very mexican if you ask me lol sure you could argue that she’s spanish but the hairstyle is VERY mexican. oh and her mom’s name is Rosa!
My fave is Bayo 1's desing
Greetings from Germany:
Lars
Ps.: (my grammar isn't the best, hope it is all somehow understandable.
The hair is why I prefer OG Bayonetta. This is my first time seeing her newest version, and I gotta say I really like it too!
Not my Bayo
Nah, I'm joking. Her new design looks fantastic. Though her clothes coming off when summoning monsters or parts of them is a strange part of her identity
I'm glad your joking 😂
The way I see it, its because in this version of Bayonetta (SPOILERS AHEAD):
She has full control of the Left Eye of Darkness she possesses.
I get where you're coming from, wonder if the voice could be down to it maybe being a different character?
@@ArtistMarkFlynn Yeah I kinda hope so, some kind of alternate timeline version of Bayonetta/Cereza and maybe the original one is still out there somewhere. It definitely can't be a normal prequel (like DMC3) because the game is set in modern Tokyo and Bayonetta is uh...very old.
the queen skin from bayo 1 was my favorite skin wish they brought it back
When shes serious what i like because she looks so good when her hair is long
I love the 3rd games design but OG Bayo was just Iconic.
Everyone always says the jewelry/chains color looks golden but I see it as a more copper/bronze tone. I figured they would go with a bronze color to show that this is the third game, and what color medal do you get when you come in third, Bronze.
as amazing and iconic as the first game's design is, i am a gigantic sucker for women with short hair, so bayo2 is my favourite. the pixie cut really fits her character
bayo3 is also an amazing design that clearly manages to portray a younger, "straight out of highschool" sort of person with many of its aspects, including even the dancing she performs to do her summons, which is noticeably clumsier(?) compared to her dancing in the first two games. i dont know how to describe it, but theres a great deal of noticeable differences between the end credits dancing in the first game and what we were shown in the trailer.
either way i love bayonetta and all of her designs. i am very excited for the third game and i really wonder if platinum is gonna throw another curveball at us and let us play as this young cereza for a little bit until something happens and she needs saving from our original timeline bayo from 1 and 2. who knows, maybe our bayonetta will also have a whole new design for 3 as well!
anyway great video! this contained a bunch more trivia than other videos ive seen on the subject, and i was very surprised to see you touch upon the wonderful101 too. will you ever do a video on jeanne or the rest of the cast as a whole?
My personal favorite is wario wearing bayonetta's suit
I have to agree with King bash here cause the bayonetta got really good characters designers and I will admit the first costume looks good I like the blue and purple equally and more than the red one mostly because I'm a cool color kind of person but be honest all of them are good but that's my preference.
If you look closely at her cat earrings in her 1st design, they look like the shape of a heel :)
Surprised this video isn't just one minute of you saying that every design is the best, because God damn she is a beautiful queen.
My ideal take on bayonetta is the 1st bodysuit mixed with her 3rd and the hair style from her 2nd but hey maybe thats just me
My favorite design has to be her first design.
2 is the best cus...well...pixie cut on women just do it for me lol
a lotta fans of the pixie cut
2 > 3 > 1
I find no surprising that her third design took off with fans over at social media so fast. Her first original outfit is still good, but I prefer the newer ones.
They are all so good!
Sphere Hunter isn't the only to come up with that theory peopy have been trying to predict the plot of Bayonetta 3 for years and even said that when the trailer was released. For some reason SH is people's go to person for action games so they get all the credit huh? Oh well.
Didn't say she was the only person...
I’ve been waiting for this one! ✨
Can you do Travis Touchdown? He has legit one of the best Male character designs ever.
Some day after I play those games, for sure.
Hope you do another video with Bayo 3s design.
The 2nd look for me. The 3rd isn't something I'd expect for a witch, if you ask me the 3rd design sells the mystery part of Bayos design with the little dress highlighting Bayonetta playful nature when it comes to fighting.
2 is the best, so elegant.
I'm still a little miffed we never got a Zero Suit Samus costume for Bayonetta, but fingers crossed for the 3rd game
Oh yeah it’s a new video
Well purple makes sense since red and blue make purple.
Wonder if this video will get updated now that Bayo 3 and Origins are out
Can you imagine if we could patch RUclips videos?
@@ArtistMarkFlynnThe tip RUclipsrs actually do have a special feature to do that. But yeah maybe do another video about this.
BASED
Personally I do not believe that Bayonetta (cereza) in Bayonetta 3 is the younger version of her being cereza.
Great video!
Between Bayo 3 and 1, frfrfr
Bayo 2’s pixie haircut is absolutely disgusting. Another reason why Bayonetta 1 is better
😂
3>2>1
3 is 1 design but better imo, i don't like the suit in Bayonetta 1 because its just plain, they did a great job with the redesign in 2.
3rd Bayonetta is little Cereza
Nice, new video!
You should do a video on Megaman character Zero.
Heck yeah
heck YES
imagine someone unironically liking her Steel Witch outfit tho lmao
Man that's a tough choice
Testament to how good her design is!
1's outfit was best
Nintendo saved her.
And I'm thankful they didn't change her character at all 🙏🏼
Here here!
Simple , i see Bayonetta , i watch
I respect this
Do luigi
I'm so hyped
its bayonetta 2 but im interested in what u have to say
heyo it's the Bayo
The answer is yes.
1 part enemies of the god 2 part hell 3 part of the death of the spirit 4 part mummy or demons almost forgot not she is not Don 😏
Best design of Bayo is Smash in my Opinion, Gets rid of her weird giraffe proportions.
