George Young was the MAN! Not only did he build a winning team he created an organization everyone could be proud of. He was one of the few GMs who would try to push his stars into retirement if they had a medical issue that would hurt them long term. He even paid a lot of them to retire.
I will say, great work was done in making such a bleak era into a feel good video. The 1970 season was an enjoyable 9-5 run, too bad it ended with a 31-3 drubbing to the Rams at the Stadium. Two years later the Giants scraped and clawed to a 8-6 record. Best win was against a good Niners team but that was midyear. Ron Johnson was the common denominator, each season he rushed for over 1000 yards. After that the Giants would play tough defense but they needed a quarterback to run an offense. Enter no. 11, Phil Simms who would win the job after battling with Scott Brunner. Very bad job matching the audio up with the video but the topic was the 60s/70s Football Giants and so it's kind of fitting.
+matt helm Matt, thanks for remembering the 1970 season, which generated plenty of excitement in NY. If I recall, had the Giants won that last game against the Rams, they would've made the playoffs (perhaps). They actually scored a TD right away but it was erased due to a penalty called on Aaron Thomas, and they had to settle for a field goal. For some reason, settling on that FG took the steam right out of them and they sleepwalked thru the rest of the game. Ron Johnson, who came over from the Browns (I think), was a wonderful back; the Giants had never had anyone quite like him before. This video was nice look back at a mixed bag era.
I remember the Giants from the late 70s and they were not very good. It was not until the 1980s that the Giants started to get good. Thanks for the video.
How could you not include the video of the first ever NFL triple reverse in the 1967 comeback to win game against the steelers . “The handoff goes to Koy, a double reverse”a triple reverse!”it goes back to Tarkenton finally . . . Tarkenton throws to Morrison . . . Morrison has got the ball . . . he is down to the ten, the five . . . TOUCHDOWN! TOUCHDOWN! A triple reverse on a pass by Tarkenton! WOW! That’s the kind of a play you make up on the streets or in a playground or your backyard. The kids make’ em up! A triple reverse. WOW.”
I remember watching that game. After the game CBS interviewed the Steelers' quarterback that day, Kent Nix. Looked like his best friend just died. Couldn't take his eyes off the floor, near tears.
I have been a fan of the Giants since I was 4 years old. No matter where I have lived in my life Big Blue has been and and always will be my team. In the 70's I stuck with them through Thick and Thicker. I was true to them during the years that they could "GRASP DEFEAT OUT OF THE JAWS OF VICTORY" on any Sunday! I will be a true Giants fan till the day I die. One thing though, WHAT'S WITH THE DUBBING!
Allie Sherman ruined the Giants and my father used to say that after they would lose in the early 1970's. Watching the Giants in 1970's was like watching Browns of today.
The Old Giants stadium was better than the current stadium, but it is better than Yankee Stadium simply because it is designed for baseball. The best seat for football in Yankee Stadium is Section 307... I sat up there for a Pinstripe Bowl.
Nice fluff piece. I knew it would be when I saw who produced it. Great for people like me to see the highlights of some great players I grew up with, but for those that want to know what it was like overall during most of that time, this is not a true representation. Can't say those teams were bad because they were worse than bad.
Tarkenton claims that the West Coast Offense started in New York? I'm sorry, but I think Bill Walsh, the OC in Cincinnati during that time, would have something to say about that.
What GREAT memories this video brought.
I am so proud to be a long time fan of the New York Football Giants.

The best announcer was on radio Marty Glickman.!!!

Bob Tucker was such a quality tight end. Very physical and athletic
There was this game in 1966. Redskins 72, Giants 41. Next week: Vikings 49, Giants 41. 82 points in two games and lost both.
Browns 49 Giants 40 it wasn't the Vikings
Phenomenal catch by Gifford 3:41
Now we know how important a GM & staff is important! He may have looked like Humpty Dumpmt but was Einstein football smart.
Is it me or is the sound way behind on this video?
Sadly, many of the old Giant heros are leaving us....Spider really had a big brass, pair...
Yes...I agree...the New York Gaints...belong at Yankee Stadium...

sound seems a little off

Yup Sherman traded away their whole defense in the early 60's. That's how the Skins scored 72 points on them in that game in 64
I was a Giants fan in HS and Tucker Frederickson was my guy.Imagine if they had the surgery technique they do now.Oh and i'm from boston..
If I stumbled on 50 billion dollars tommorow, Id buy the NY Giants and move them right back to Yankee Stadium where they belong.

Let’s hope you just stumble
9:17 - see that cheap shot?
I like how they just skipped over the Yale bowl
1965 is also the same year the NY Jets drafted Joe Namath.

YA...
It seems that YA got creamed after each pass he threw doesnt it?
ny yankees and n y giants both collapsed about the same time
1964 , but the Yankees still made it to the World 🌎 Series
