- Serbian food isn't a cuisine I'm too familiar with. So when I found one close by me, I had to give it a try. The food they served me felt very comforting and familiar even though I haven't tried anything like it. Whenever you find yourself in the Lincoln Square area of Chicago, I highly suggest you guys try this place!!

@@oughttolunch No problem man - that goes if you like the taste/experience of rakija. To enjoy the taste longer. Often people who drink it fast in one shot, do not care of the taste, they just want to get drunk fast.

@@oughttolunch That's it. Don't get fooled with the lack of the alcohol burn in the throat - good quality rakija is smooth, but it still has 40% or even more alcohol in it :)
That's exactly what I am trying to teach people on the utube.
-bring glass to your mouth, slowly inhaling air and take a little sip (to feel bouquet)
-let that sip slide to your stomach and exhale thru the nose
If rakiya (rakija) is good than (talking about first cup):
-rakiya will not burn your mouth or throat
-after 1sec you will feel like explosion of “emotions” in your stomach which will gently rise thru your body
-when that feelings comes/crawl to your neck you will have goosebumps
-than that feelings come to your head and merge in pure happiness
tears of joy mean that you got a jack pot, grab that bottle because that is a pure gold. unfortunately I dont think that you can find that in supermarkets or anywhere for free sale. That type of rakiya can only be found when you in some village and maybe some "domachin" (I dont have right translation but it mean the man who own land etc. with old plumb trees) will offer you glass of rakiya. That kind of rakiya is cure, literally, for many illnesses. You can not buy it because in Serbia you do not pay for real cure you only can be given one bottle. Do not ask for more, that will be to rude. Just say thank you from your heart.

Kaymak is actually a spread , not a sauce . And unforunatelly i have to say, after watching 10000 videos with serbian food, that is nowhere near the real serbian kaymak. The big reason you really cant find good kaymak in the USA is beacuse it is like " banned" food. It has too many milk fats in it, and USA has a problem with that... Ohh the irony :D

@@oughttolunch It`s a milk crust. You know when you boil milk and leave it to cool down it creates a crust on top. That is collected and salted and cured or aged , however you want to call it. For good stuff you need a full fat milk , not like milk you get in the supermarket.
I love that Idea but as Serb living in Austria for Last 16 years I can only say it isn't the Same as in Serbia.In Vienna we have at least 50 our Restaurants thay have good Food but isn't the same...

6:16 you're supposed to drink rakija in small sips. Downing it like a shot will only get you drunk quickly and you dont get to experience the full taste

Serbian food in restaurants is great, but it cannot be compared to the food that our dear mothers prepare at home. Homemade Sarma, stuffed peppers with meat and cheese, goulash, cevapi, burgers... Especially homemade cakes are the most famous in the world.

Serbian food is "happy food" . It`s not just nourishment, it literally is supposed to make you happy , and you should enjoy it with friends and family. Serbian lunches and dinners can last for hours. Not just Serbian, that goes for whole Balkans.
If you like spicy hot, next time order grilled hot peppers with garlic too
