    Thanks for telling us about the WARNING on testing a known hot sute before using it on anything else 😊

    That breaker box tip. Was extremely useful.

    This type of tester doesn't sense "radiation", it works on the principal of capacitive coupling. Some of these testers won't detect 220 volts or live wires inside metal conduit, so it's a good idea to use a contact type of measuring device, such as a VOM, to confirm the presence or non-presence of voltage before working on a circuit.

    Just got a new one, was happy to add it to my electrical tools, but now trying to use it, nothing but problems and flaky results. It works fine inserted into any outlet in the house. But I'm trying to fix some miswired 3-way switches. Started by removing ALL the wires from the 2 switches. Turned the breaker back on, and now NONE of the wires have any power when tested with regular neon tester, nor is there power in the wires to the light. However sometimes the voltage tester indicates power in some wires, but this changes. I was expecting to disconnect the switches and isolate line power to one wire. But no! No power anywhere, but the lights used to work except not properly controlled by the 3-way switches. What a mess. I'm not as dumb as this makes me sound!! I spent hours learning everything I could about 3-way switches.

    It is not radiation that these detect, but rather an electro-magnetic field that is produced by alternating current. In any case there is a lot of safety information missing here. For example you have to check an AC line on all sides, important to understand because if you happen to test by the neutral wire it will not show voltage present, you have to check near the hot wire in a sheathed cable. Be safe out there! :-)

      Dude, what are you talking about?!?! I mean seriously. If you want to argue that it is electro-magnetic field that is "Radiating" out, let's not split hairs here. But I start by putting it in the left side of the outlet and tell my viewers that it is the negative side. Then I move to the positive side where it reacts. And before the end of the video I tell my viewers to not just put it up to an outlet and say, "Ok that's not working. Let's touch it." I say test it on a know working outlet first to make sure that it is on and working correctly. Did you watch my video??

    Was trying to go get into the batteries with out breaking it. Thanks for looking out for us. And you must get paid by the hour, because the important facts could have been sped up allowing time to talk about how many hours it lasts on a pair batteries. And show changing them out. Does it work on 50 volts ac like it says. Try it out on 16 volt doorbells ?

    Why is it not enough to ensure that the installation is actually powerless. Why can you only use it as an indicator?

    Hello this is a great tool for someone like myself, I am totally blind, and just recently changed out a box, and outlet conbo: this would have been usefull to know is there was a live wire: can you recomend this one and ever you got it at? thanks so much

      Here is the newer model from Home Depot. I normally give Amazon links, but when you look this one up there they are sold by a third party that does not accept returns. www.homedepot.com/p/Milwaukee-1000-Volt-Dual-Range-Non-Contact-Voltage-Detector-2203-20/205441488

    I bought one of these yesterday, without actually knowing what is was xD I'm sure it will turn out to be useful someday, but for now I'm just running around the house beeping with it like a jolly kid on Christmas! 😂 (Which is perfectly normal for us bipolar-people, when suddenly realizing engineering is REAL and stocks-up on anything that probably are included inside Tony Stark's (Ironman) toolbox! 😂)
    Btw, mine already starts beeping from a distance of ~20 centimeters from an outlet? :S Is that normal - or did I accidently purchase Thor (the god of thunder), while being on my shoppingspree? 🤣
    ...is Loki here too? 🤔.... **beep beep...** ....

    • @AroundTheHome1
      @AroundTheHome1  4 года назад

      I'm glad that you are liking your voltage detector. Now, to answer your question about it beeping 20cm from the outlet. If you shake the voltage detector it will beep. It should not be able to detect actual voltage until you almost touch the outlet. Thanks for watching and don't forget to stop by our website for many more helpful videos. www.greatwhiteninja.com
