- My track “Red Horse” took me to the American west, envisioning the future of a young Black girl in the 1850s I saw a photograph of at the Arts Bank. She was wearing a white dress and a white hat, and based on the photo was working as a nanny for a white family. I imagined a man on a red horse entering her life as she stepped away from that job, and the idea of freedom to write her own narrative.

The first time I heard this song I had to sit down on the floor once the bridge came in. I put it on repeat for 20 minutes before I got up again. It took me away and kept me in the place it created. My own feelings, my own love met (what I thought at the time to be) Corinne’s feelings and Corinne’s love and I literally couldn’t move. It was both euphoric and heartbreaking. Now to know that THIS is the backstory of the song’s narrative just…wow. That resonated and I had no idea that it was happening. I thought it was just “wow, I miss this person,” but it was also me feeling connected to the girl in the photograph that I didn’t even know about and had never seen.
And that is the magic of music. This song is magical. Thank you so much for this. This song is the most moving thing that has landed on my ears in years.
