Love this vid Matt. I don't own even a fraction of Leica glass, but watching thousands of Leica glass images tells me that I should. While I will consider the idea I need to figure out what makes the magic. Keep doing what you're doing.

Excellent as usual. I'd suggest that you teach but you do teach. I love the slightly down at the heel seaside resorts which have passed their prime. There is a charm in their tackiness and jumble of shops and all the food that should not be eaten but is somehow OK to eat seaside. All those great greasy fish and chips and various fried sough concoctions, special candies and just the commotion of fun. Yes, this is a good one. And it is a strong reminder that I must think in "film mode" and concentrate on composition. Thanks for a good video.

Yes I try to teach a little in my videos to so they are helpful (and watched). I will try to do more walkabout videos if this one gets enough views. Matt very very nice stuff!
My parents favourite old haunt when they first had me back in the 1960's!
Yes, I guess time and cheaper holidays, the lack of glamour to some have hit many towns besides the sea.
I feel that perhaps we should have a good old rummage through the process of getting photos from all mediums available to us....Just in case suddenly like petrol engines somehow film photography will be banned or restricted to only the "Mega" wealthy one day. You'd have thought with all the "terrible undesirable plastic" that lasts centuries some boffin would have been working on the next gen film & chemistry to keep future generations going like Fox Talbot and his ilk did for many in the 19 century. Brighton must have been an amazing day for those willing to go on the steam trains or horse driven coaches back then.

Great vid, Matt. I’m getting confused when I carry too many cameras and lenses. I think it’s best taking one camera with maybe 1 or 2 (max) extra lenses. Leicaflex SL is not as bullet proof as it looks. Dropped mine onto a pavement yesterday bc it's basically a bar of slippery soap, and the shutter speed dial is loose and freely turning now. It was just held to the base with 3 small and fragile tabs. Also the shutter button cannot be pressed down. Camera must landed on the speed dial side when I dropped it. The light meter still works but the exposure arm would not come out. The light meter needle still swings though.

@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom Yeh, stupid me, I did not put a strap on. You are right, good thing it is not my SL2, but still feel hurt bc it has a working light meter. Anyway probably not going to spend money to fix it bc I find the SL hard to get critical focus. Leicaflex 1 is much easier, the center circle just popped into focus. SL with the micro prisms in the circle sometimes confused me. Is that your case with your SL?

Thanks Dave, it might sound weird but I don't look at others work before a trip as it may influence how I shoot. I rather shoot as I see on the day (even if it is not the best). (I just used Instagram to try to find the popular landmarks to photo, like the pier, tower etc to make sure I didn't miss anything I liked the look of).

Kudos on convincing a model to pose while buying film. ;-)

Thanks for your interest. One of my workshop students said the same after seeing me "at work". I did record such a video but the sound didn't record on the GoPro so I might wait and do it again rather than doing a voice over. it's on the list! (I'm just trying to work out why people watch my videos.. currently anything that isn't a gear review does less than well, like this video, one of my worst performers so far even though it took over 2 full days to edit.

I'm in the no-B-roll camp. I tend to watch your information for specific info and remain subbed mainly because I know that info is what I'll get. I have no interest in video. I do like your accompanying stills when they relate to what you're talking about. On other channels, I unsub from ones that use excessive b-roll and vintage crackle music; and ones that still have useful info, I usually sigh & skip it if it's overly lengthy. Don't know what BTS is though which probably makes me a dinosaur!

Thanks for your honest feedback! BTS means behind the scenes so small clips of me working with the model/ using lens X, then a sample image etc to help explain the story. Don't worry my videos will always be info heavy and probably lacking music.

I have always wondered with people making videos on RUclips, what is more important the video or the actual still photograph? Is the video taking away from the still photography so that the photographer is missing out on some great images because he is not truly concentrating on the still phonographic image in front of him? The reason I ask is that when I see these videos, the examples lack something, they sometimes demonstrate what the RUclipsr is talking about and that is it. Many times the images are mediocre at best.

I would agree that many of these types of videos have mostly mediocre images, but I disagree about this particular video. I thought there were lots of excellent shots here.

Thanks Chiva, great point. In most cases (say if using a full video camera setup AND a stills setup) then yes you can't do both well at the same time. Luckily I was shooting 6am til 10pm in the same place so day 1 I shot more video, day 2 and 3 almost no video. One way around it is to mount a GoPro on a stills camera. I did a video like this but the audio did not record so I need to try again. In this video if the photos are average then it is not the video shooting to blame. (Remember movie film has a certain look too so the images will lack the punch and pop of higher contrast films).

Thanks Dan, probably a matter of taste. They are not my best work but also I normally edit single images that I post on social. For this video they are all basic LR edits (colour, contrast, sharpness adjustments only).
