A 6 year term limit would make for a more effective leader, as the last 18 months of the 1st term at best do not have to be based on choices for what is best fit for reelection and detract in any way from the job of the president. Just like there needs to be term limits of 2 terms in the Senate and 6 terms in the House, with a total of 12 years serving in Congress. The same applies to state and local government.
Carter was truly a decent man, very wise, honest and put America before party. Something very few understood then and now.
God Bless and Shine on you President Carter.

That independence kept his mind uncluttered, but alas, coalitions, like diplomacy, is what politics is mainly about, I think.
    For peace keeping, I mean.
I'm reminded of my immensely beloved and brilliant Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme.😢❤
Begin and Sadat was truly an almost miraculous feat of peace keeping.

These Plutarch like lives of the Presidents are quite valuable to those young students that wish to whet their appetites towards a future interest in US history. It is good to see reference to Statuary Hall, a subject of immense interest that is rarely ever spoken about.
While President Carter spoke about a possible future single term of 6 years for the presidency, I am in complete disagreement. 4 years is plenty, particularly when congressional elections have caused an excess of instability for the nation. Like in the past, as long as all is echoing sweetly within the corridors of power in Washington, another term can be gifted to the occupant of the Oval office. If political science efficiency has fallen into place over those 8 years, you may find a candidate for the presidency that had a front row seat over that time. By simply stepping into his bosses shoes, then history will bring forth a golden age of rule like we saw with the Reagan/Bush era. That 12 year reign was an example of perfection upon the art of government by the American Republic.

I disagree only because Regan started the destroying of unions which takes away the power of the people then only corporations have power to pay as little as possible and become so wealthy while the workers barely get by.
When taxes was paid by the rich without the loop wholes and better wages and taxes on the people we had a strong middle class and a wealthy country.
Bush created the deal that sent the jobs out of the USA and it was done then just as Bill Clinton came into office he signed it and regretted it.
So those two alone got rid of strong unions and jobs for the future generation.
