New cars to come with ‘driver-facing cameras’ monitoring facial expressions while driving

- Sky News host James Macpherson says new cars are being slammed for “driver-facing cameras” monitoring your movements.
“If you are in the market for a brand-new car, you are about to get more than you bargained for,” he said.
“A lot of the new cars are coming with driver-facing cameras that monitor your facial expressions while you drive.
“If you yawn while you are driving an alarm will sound and a message lights up on the screen, telling you perhaps you need to take a break.
“If you look at your passenger for a moment an alarm sounds and a message pops up saying keep your eyes on the road.”

They already are. And it is being SOLD to insurance companies so they can continue to jack your rates up until you can't afford to drive anywhere. By 2030 they plan to force to into a 15-minute city - cars, food, power, etc. You'll have a low social credit score if you don't play along meaning that you won't get the best salary or the best interest rates, or be able to leave except on foot or bicycle.
@@feoxorus , thank you for pointing out that this is "ChinaMerica".... As I had stated in my comment above, if it wasn't deleted, about the school in China that used RF tags in jackets with alarms to "keep students from nodding off/putting their heads down in class" to make sure they are being attentive to learning! Facial recognition cameras at school entrances ensured students were wearing their assigned jacket and tho the monitoring entity said they, "...could track students outside of school with the technology, they don't...." Sure....
@@feoxorusyou clearly have no idea what a 15 minute city actually is. The idea is that you don’t HAVE to drive because all your necessities are within walking/biking distance. Farther trips can still be made by car or better yet high quality public transit. Also you do understand that human beings and society existed before cars and that “15 minute cities” are just the way we used to design cities before good ol Henry Ford decided everyone should own a car.
@@feoxorusI've been seeing videos of people with the new Fords Mustang. The infotainment system collects your driving data. Many of them are saying that their insurance rates suddenly went up without any explanation after taking the car to the track.

I drive a semi and they've had this in my truck for a couple years now. I absolutely hate it. It records if you look down, blow your nose or even if you stretch. Many drivers have got a warning just for reaching for a drink. This isn't for safety, it's for control.
If I worked for a company driving such a thing, I would demand being given a different vehicle, if there is one without camera. I really can't have it, having my damn vehicle parenting me, basically over bullshit.
@@marcfuchs6938 unfortunately all fleet trucks have them. In fact, in my area, all companies are going to it.
@@marcfuchs6938there was a company that has two different truck setups, i was talking with one of their drivers once. The day cabs, ones without the sleeper, required the driver facing cameras. And their sleeper required trucks the drivers were allowed to cover the cameras because it could catch a naked driver in their own bedroom (basically).
Imo id just cover the cameras anyways, you wanna watch how i drive? Gotta be sitting in the passenger seat then.
@@legionofanon I would be fine with covering, but the question with every different vehicle would be, if that leads to other undesired results. Like warning messages, that the camera is covered or even other systems getting turned off.
When in 2018 the current Mercedes Sprinter was brand new, I got one of them. And shit like emergency brake assist kept annoying the crap out of me, so I wanted to turn it off. However, turning that off would also not allow me to use cruise control. That is shit I expect these days.
When moving a brand new Ford from a dealer, had to find out you can't even turn off some of that shit at all anymore. Fuck those god damn manufacturers, taking away my decision to use a car how I desire. So far I am clinging to my 2007 van, but when one day, that one will be past any possible repair and I have to get something newer, if need be, I'll drag that car to some software specialists who change the software in a way, that I can turn off everything. May it be god awful assist systems, or unwarranted shit like cameras. I wouldn't care if it's illegal or not.

I saw a bloke driving a new Mercedes change lanes and his car got a bit close to the car in front as he moved across; the vehicle crash avoidance system slammed the brakes on, causing a 3 car pile-up.
I think Subaru had a similar but far more frightening issue.
A driver was driving on a freeway/motorway/expressway and went under an overpass. The windshield camera detected the shadow of the underpass as a non-moving vehicle and made an emergency stop from highway speeds.
On the Freeway.
We're used to Mercedes drivers stopping for no reason already. Don't tailgate European cars. Aussie cars are more likely to accelerate into gaps
So, tailgaters caused a crash by following too closely. Doesn't matter _why_ a car in front of you stopped; if you hit it, it's because _you're_ driving wrong.
@@prophetzarquon1922If you change lanes and slam your brakes at the same time it is your fault not the person that rear ends you.
@@CB-dl7xk That's true, changing lanes without room is explicitly a violation. Typically these front-end collision avoidance systems just slam on the brakes though; the lane assist going off-lane is _another_ problem with them, not coinciding with sudden braking. The 'feature' where a Tesla may swerve to avoid a collision would work better with lidar & sonar, but so far the biggest problem with them is _not_ swerving when they should. (Policy might be a bit gun-shy after sending some guy under a truck?)
The reality is, that a really safe driver won't get anywhere in unsafe traffic, so performance akin to a _skilled_ driver is the best "self driving" can do... & thus far, the safety record is worse than 9 out of 10 drivers. Since the worst 10% of drivers are so bad they wouldn't keep a license if every offense were recorded, it's hard to argue that a self-driving vehicle that bad should be allowed on the roads either.
(In practice, way more than 10% of drivers drive so badly they'd lose their license if suddenly held accountable for every infraction, but most drivers _could_ do better just by really trying; some drivers just aren't functionally competent to drive without doing some part of it wrong. So, if the goal is to do better than a "bad driver", we've got a _long_ way to go.)
It's all about keeping us safe, how about telling us not to eat unhealthy foods?
Yep. Subaru is doing this. My wife and I test drove a 2024 Outback recently. Everything was touch screen and/or voice command. The cost keeps going up with cars too when they insist on all these features being standard as well.
I own a Toyota and when I was in the purchasing phase, I asked if I could take the paperwork home to read over because I was crunched for time and didn’t want to sign something without reading it. They refused to let me take it home. I should have walked away right then but I needed a vehicle. But I did opt out of data collection and they put my truck into “crate mode”. That turned off the only feature I cared about and that was my remote start. I've seen insurance companies offer a tracker to put on your vehicle so you can prove you're a safe driver. I once came across a case where someone who was a good driver slammed on the brakes to avoid an ambulance with its light on doing ambulance things, and they got their rates jacked up because supposedly they were a dangerous driver.
Can't give any of these companies an inch, they WILL take a mile.
all the more reason to call car insurance a paracite
The female host is a very switched on lady, well done for calling it out
Put a sticky note on it lol
No more road rage, no more anything. You do the slightest thing wrong and the car will stop.
It’s far worse than any of that. This is control beyond evil.
Which will lead to more road rage as everyone else is held up.
Yeah, no way at all that this would ever go bad....
It’s not difficult to disable a camera and microphone with a thin phillips screwdriver and hammer.
Or remove the fuse.
Piece of tape works too
@@johntracy72isn’t really as simple as removing a fuse. Because you remove one fuse and it could mess up something else completely irrelevant to what your trying to get rid of
@@rixyz7013I had a newer car and when a fuse in particular popped it started overheating and lost oil pressure indication. Turns out that fuse powered the EGR (emissions BS), the oil pressure sensor and an electronic thermostat.... THAT FAILS CLOSED on power loss. The EGR failed and popped the fuse. I unplugged the EGR, replaced the fuse and wham bam thank you ma'am it worked. Sold the car shortly after that, I will not have such a poorly engineered vehicle
and my car will be constantly displaying "Please remove the electrical tape from the camera"
My wife would never leave the house dolling herself up before ever getting into the car 😂😂😂😂😂
I'd go back to a horse and saddle but the Greens would want a diaper on the horse. World gone mad.
Just say neigh
So when you look over your shoulder to make sure there is no car in your blind spot, your car yells at you?
Some black gaffer tape over it will fix that, but finding the microphone will be tricky
