    Unfortunately, there is a huge amount of Law Graduates and jobs are rare. I was fortunate to get a job in the industry at an early stage of my JD. I have made a point of employing only Law Students at our firm.

      The demand for lawyers has actually increased and the salaries across the firms are going up. It's just hard to get the initial experience but once you have it - there are plenty of opportunities.

      @@JuliaKimMurphy can confirm this. There’s heaps of jobs on Seek, but most are seeking a min of 2 years experience. Just gotta get over that hurdle and then the opportunities are endless.

      @@joshuabird I agree, there are absolutely tons of lawyer jobs on seek, but all of them want at least 2 year post admission experience. Since it is so hard to get 2 years experience, do you think an LLM might be a substitute?

    1) Form strong networks with the industry while you study - the biggest factor for future employment in Australia. You can have as many qualifications as you like, IMHO this does not make a big difference when it comes to positive attention afterwards. It's still a "Old Boys Club" out there, especially in WA.
    2) Be a good listener and know when not to speak.
    3) Demonstrate reliablity. You'd be surprised how many people are always late or don't call back. Here's an easy niche for you to get into.
    4) This is controversial - keep your head down. Don't have too many good ideas. Try to not rock the boat. Don't accidentally make your established colleagues look bad, lazy or stupid by overperforming because you 'mean well'. Open ambition isn't popular.
    From a business consultant who struggled for years with finding meaningful work. Coming to Australia from Germany. Being super motivated and over qualified has cost me 15 years of setbacks in the public and private sector until the penny dropped. I don't talk about my qualifications more than necessary and even omit some of them from my CV now.
    Hope this helps someone, thanks for the angle, I have been contemplating Law Studies to combine with my existing industry experience.
    I guess it depends... cheers!

    Finally I found someone talk about law studies in Australia 😊,can you please make more videos about the legal jobs that not really need law degree and the most legal areas demand in Australia ? Also I would like to know if you have practice certificate in one state can you practice in other states as well ? Or need the bar exam for each state in Australia ?

    • @JuliaKimMurphy
      @JuliaKimMurphy  2 года назад +4

      Hi Mary! Thank you for watching my videos. I'll try and make more content to address your queries. You can definitely practice in other Australian states once you're admitted. There are no bar exams in order to get admitted to practice as a lawyer - its called practical legal training which is either a 3 month full time course or a 6 month part time course you complete after you're done with your law degree. (this is in the state of NSW but similar requirements in other states).

    To find opportunity, look for booming industries, eg immigration. I understand the benchmark credential for registration as an agent (irrespective of whether you hold a law degree or not) is a diploma in Aust Migration Law & prac.

    Hi, Julia. I am a graduate of juris doctor here in the Phil. And I want to know if there are law/legal related jobs in Australia which are not necessarily law practice since Phil law is not similar with AU law. Thank u so much and hope to get a reply. 😊

    • @JuliaKimMurphy
      @JuliaKimMurphy  Год назад +3

      As far as I know paralegals don’t need a law degree at all and that is a law related role. If you have a JD from another jurisdiction you can see if you can complete a shorter JD in Australia. I’ve had friends who had a law degree from other countries get credits for certain courses so they didn’t have to complete the entire 3 years.
