    Disclaimer: This video is not meant to insult any Russians, Stalin is the one who is responsible for the end of Königsberg.
    Königsberg (literally King's Mountain) is the name for the historic Prussian city that is now Kaliningrad, Russia. Originally a Sambian or Old Prussian settlement, it then belonged to the State of the Teutonic Order, the Duchy of Prussia, the Kingdom of Prussia, the German Empire, the Weimar Republic, and Nazi Germany. After being largely destroyed in World War II by Allied bombing and the Red Army, it was annexed by the Soviet Union and its surviving inhabitants forcibly expelled. Thereafter, the city was renamed Kaliningrad. Few traces of the former Königsberg remain today.

    Sorry for the reupload, the copyright owner of the second song "Ostpreußisches Reiterlied" ordered to strike my channel even tho I had mail-contact to him and did everything he wanted. I replaced it with a version from Der Michel :)

    The taking of Ostpreußen was the worst of all. While Poland at least had a big ethnic Polish population and historic connection to the Ostgebiete, Russia / the Soviet Union had no claim on Königsberg whatsoever, and only occupied it because of the thirst for power of the murderer Stalin. Today, Königsberg exists as Kaliningrad, a shadow of its former self, its beauty shattered by soviet architecture without a soul, its history ignored, as an oblast of Russia without any connection to the rest of the country, and without a shared history. It is saddening, really. The people speak Russian today, but the winds whisper in German.

      @@grauerwolf2405 Regards from Sochi, Russia! I will not focus on the fact that your comment is Russophobic and anti-Russian !
      Konigsberg and East Prussia became the territory of Russia for the first time after the battles of the Seven Years' War (1756-1763), only the unexpected death of the Empress of all the Russias Elizabeth I Petrovna deprived the Russian Empire of the fruits of victory in that war! In 1945 , Koenigsberg and 1/3 of East Prussia became the territory of the USSR as a result of World War II and were recognized by the WHOLE world ! It is senseless and even criminal to engage in revanchism now ! The lion's share of the destruction of the city of Konigsberg was inflicted by Royal Air Force bombers, and the destruction from the assault was minimal, the 3rd Belorussian Front of the Red Army of the USSR under the command of Marshal of the Soviet Union Alexander Vasilevsky captured the city in FOUR days, carrying out an assault from 6 to 9 April 1945!
      Yes, modern Russian Kaliningrad has Soviet/Russian architecture! Any normal adequate person should understand that restoring the architectural forms of the Prussian kings means trying to cultivate the Prussian spirit and militarism in Russia! This was unacceptable not in 1945, not now!
      Yes, and my native Stalingrad (Volgograd), which was 98% destroyed, including by "boys in Stahlhelme M35" from the Pregel River (the river in Kaliningrad / Konigsberg), and who destroyed more than 40,000 civilians (including my relatives) in just one barbaric bombing of Stalingrad on August 23, 1942... Being a Russian, I feel sorry.
    You know, when a country loses its territory leaving a part of their nation abroad, then it's relatively normal (such things happened lots of times throughout history). But when THE WHOLE POPULATION of the region gets deported from their homeland, that's a different kettle of fish.
    Many of Stalin's decisions were inhumane. E.g., not only Germans got departed from Silesia, Pomerania and Prussia, but also Poles from Galicia and Belarus. And also Crimean Tatars, Chechens, Kalmyks... The list goes on.
    Nevertheless, the current government of Kaliningrad makes an effort to "Germanize" the city by putting up some German-type buildings.
    That's history, folks. And I think, we shouldn't hate one another ever again to the point at which a war breaks out... So that none of the modern-day cities and countries share the awful fate of Königsberg.

    I know this is a somewhat old and sad video, but I will share a little trivia here, that will maybe lift some spirit. I recently listend to QnA type podcats starring a well know university Professor and security policy expert, called György Nógrádi. (The guy also has a small following in germany as well and he regularly holds seminars at the summer programes of the SPD and the Bundeswher.) At some point in the podcast ,a viewer asked something about the Kaliningrad region, relating the russo-ukranian war. In response he gave a brief overview of the regions history, and at the very end, he mentioned something interesting. On the december of 1991 Just days before the collapse of the USSR, a delegation of soviet officials travelled to eastern block countries to offer territories that said country might desire in exchange for money. Some of these offerings allegedly included: Kárpátalja for Hungary, parts of Kariala for Finnland, and the Kaliningrad region for Germany. However, the german foreign minister at the time (maybe Klaus Kinkel, im not sure) wasnt even willing to recive the delegation and listen to their offer. A few days later the ussr collapsed. So all in all, at some point, a crumbling and desperate Soviet Union have actually tried to return Königsberg to Germany for a price it probalbly could have afforded. Im not entirely sure how much of this is true, but it did make me feel a bit better!

    • @dr.ludwig
      @dr.ludwig  2 года назад +3

      Yes they really offered it, but Germany didn't feel patriotic or demanding anymore, it accepted the total defeat and the new borders forced upon them. Wasn't it Genschers fault?

    • @derraider3573
      @derraider3573 2 года назад +1

      @@dr.ludwig Oh yes, It was Hans Genscher! Thanks Herr Ludwig! I could not remember. Yes, we can say it was his fault. He was not interested in hearing their offer. But it could be that just a year after the German reunion, he just didnt want to deal with administrative matters of another possible exclave province. He could have been just, lazy or exhausted.

    Soviet Union had plenty of nice-looking cities (Tashkent is a good example) but kaliningrad is DEFINITELY not the case. If their intention was to deliberately turn Königsberg into an ugly city to further humiliate the Germans, I congratulate them because they did an excellent job. If not then the management of the city was full of fools and incompetents.
