Use some clear nail polish on the paint grit chipping to keep it from spreading. There was a guy making paddles in his garage that were aluminum. They are crazy LOUD!!
Oh I didn't realise you commented, sorry! Thanks for the idea. The chipping didn't spread, and I eventually ripped off the edge guard altogether to add some spray-on polyurethane foam to reduce the sound, then covered it with stick-on edge guard. Seems to work fine. Still loud though, but tolerable.
Interesting paddle. It sounds much more muted during your play vids compared to a regular paddle. Probably cause the sound is lower-pitched overall. That it's all aluminum but still comes in at ~8oz is impressive. Price is also pretty surprising for metal. Although I'm confused as to whether it has an aluminum face or graphite face. Cause on one of their graphics for the paddle it does mention graphite face.
Thanks for the comment! It's actually slightly louder than a regular paddle, but it's not noticeable during gameplay. The face is a sprayed-on grit surface, I don't know if it's graphite, but it's certainly not aluminium - that's the base material for sure, as you can see at 0:55, but not the grit surface. Overall I do like the paddle; it's great value for the price, and will likely last for a long time. So far everyone whom I've lent my paddle to, loves the paddle.
@@iamthekwan Yeah w/aluminum core no worry about core crushing with this one. =) I found an old Franklin Pickleball-X Challenger Performance Aluminum Paddle @ our local rec center the other day and it's nowhere as fancy. It's literally 2 sheets of aluminum welded together, no core, with plastic handle parts screwed onto it. Thing is 11.6 oz. I started using it for wrist/arm strength training. 😆
Great video. I was interested in this paddle and almost bought it. However, upon more research, some website say aluminium will dent over time because it is a soft metal so carbon fiber is better. Would this paddle's surface or core dent overtime especially if you hit very hard all the time? Am wondering how long it would last compared to other paddles
I can't say for certain as I'm no engineer, but I read in GBS website that they tested the handle strength at 500kg, ie the handle doesn't bend even if 5 people stood on it, I think. This should give you a fair amount of confidence in it. So far it feels as solid as day 1. By the way, carbon fiber on its own is just a cloth, it just provides some rigidity when added to the honeycomb core (which is plastic), typically using epoxy glue. So I doubt it makes much of a difference if at all. Ps, Sorry for the late reply, I didn't realise you replied, YT didn't send me a notification for this.
@@iamthekwan Thanks for the feedback. I was interested in this paddle then came to your video to get more info on it. Was skeptical at first because there were websites stating aluminum surface do bend overtime but I guess if the internal is a honeycomb pattern, that should make it more solid. Maybe I'll give it a try since it does not cost a lot. Thanks
@@deathtoby If you have the budget, consider the 2025 new model. I've been playing with it and prefer it. They have a 50% off still ongoing. I quite like it, it's faster but has less power, but it fits my style more. It's also a lot less quiet, but retains the responsive feel.

@@iamthekwan Thanks.. I saw it but I am still a beginner so maybe I will try the cheaper 1 first
