The heart has four valves, the mitral, aortic, pulmonary and tricuspid valves and they play an important role in regulating the flow of blood through the #heart. Damage to a valve, especially the mitral valve, can disrupt the regular flow of blood and cause, for example, mitral valve prolapse or regurgitation.
