Cool. There was a saying about the Revolutions of 1848--"When France sneezes, Europe catches a cold." That's in reference to the fact that a revolution in Paris always spreads to other parts of Europe. The same could apply to the Arab Spring in 2011--when Cairo went into revolution, the rest of the Arab world followed suit.
Kinda weird to be such a staunch monarchist while simultaneously going "This king is too weak, let me select another absolute ruler who is granted his power by divine right."
A wild revolutionary appeared! The conservatives sent out bismark! Bismark used speech. It was super effective! Congratulations, Bismark leveled up! Your Bismark is evolving!

I found the anthem used from 1943 onwards in the USSR (i.e. THAT one) to be hilariously ironic considering that it in some way or another it CONSTANTLY goes on about how the soviet union will last forever, through the ages, for all time, eternally and just totes forever man...
+Maliivan Do you understand German? Try reading the GDR's national anthem lyrics. It doesn't sound _openly_ cynical, but there are some lines that do stand out as hilarious in hindsight.
+Franz Luggin - Most national anthems contain some level of oddity... The French national anthem openly glorifies murder, the German one is as xenophobic as they come, the Dutch one talks about loyalty to the king of Spain, the Spanish one talks about bugger all because it's entirely instrumental, the Italian one is probably fine when it comes to the lyrics, but sounds like the kind of music you typically hear coming out of a barrel organ in a city centre, and the US one talks about how great it is to have bombs and rockets dropped on your head...

I love the chutzpah Bismark displayed during his period of good-ish ideas. Recruit a peasant levy to keep the peasants down? Sure! Disguise yourself by trimming your beard? Sure! Elevate a six-year-old to the throne without asking his mom? Sure! That kind of chutzpah is one of the most important qualities a great leader needs. However, Bismark still lacked another equally-vital quality: Not failing at basically everything.
What gets around will also come around. Bismarck will remember Prince Wilhelm, the young prince Fritz and Fritz´a mother because they will have interesting roles in the future of Prussia and Germany.
Remember that democracys back than were very unstable ans were completly corrupted by wealthy business mans that controlled everything. Bismark on the other hand delivered a huge improvements in workers rights and in their working condictions. Somehow the idea of Bismark rallying a peasant levy in the 19th century is hilarious. Like, imagine that your chilling at home watching RUclips videos, then someone knocks at your door. You find out it's your landlord. You open it and behind him are all of his tenants/your nieghbors, and he hands you a gun. Then he says "Go get another weapon, and as many snacks as you can carry, and follow me to city hall. We're gonna stop a riot." It's a stupidly funny image.
I've watched this video 5/7 days so far. At least once but usually twice a day. I haven't done this since Admiral Yi. Another EXTRA HISTORY MASTAPIECE I can't wait for Sunday!
Ike Okereke It's pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things, though. Maybe something about the American entry into World War 1? I imagine there'd be some very interesting debates about the benefits of isolationism from that period.
Ike Okereke There's not a whole lot to talk about there, though. There was a dispute between Ohio and Michigan, and some skirmishes, but that's about it.
If anyone is interested in a more detailed account of the revolutions of 1848, Mike Duncan has just finished talking about the revolution in France over at revolutionspodcast.com
The last few minutes finally made me understand why he’s cherished here in Germany. He supported the monarchy during a time of possible revolution for democracy, but he also evaded war at all costs and I guess during the time, that was already a very novel idea. It all depends on the Zeitgeist. Nowadays we learn about him in school and are told he was an overall good man, but never really told why. The Zeitgeist has definitely changed with his avoidance of war not anymore being enough to celebrate him, there were recent debates of changing the name of schools named after him.
Pleaseeeeee! Make a series over Julius Caesars early life. Not a lot of people know about the turmoils he went through when he was teen like how the first Roman dictator took away his title, wealth, and annulled Caesar's marriage. How he steps on Britain's shore and instantly leaves, comes back with twice as many soldiers and gets beat. It like main stream media only thinks of him as over throwing democrac republic when in reality, he over threw a corrupt anti system, ran by powerful family that was anything but a republic.
1848. Revolution is sweeping Europe. And the Wildman Bismarck is none too pleased... but he has a plan.

That seems apt. On his deathbed Emperor Wilhelm I famously told Bismarck, "It wasn't always easy being Emperor under you."

We're gonna stop a riot."
It's a stupidly funny image.
Fudge me sideways, I love you all already, but that Vampire: The Masquerade reference has me swooning all over again... ;)
The amount of interesting political issues and the way he tackled them was astounding
Any chance to find the original quote at 9:16?

I can't wait to seeing Napoleon III, the Second French Empire, and their role in this series!
Well with the next episode they should speak about the Prussian-Austrian, Prussian-Danish and Prussian-French wars, so he'll likely be a topic.
ET DEUX VIVE LA COMMUNE
I've watched this video 5/7 days so far. At least once but usually twice a day.
I haven't done this since Admiral Yi.
Another EXTRA HISTORY MASTAPIECE
I can't wait for Sunday!
After this, you should do a short video about the Toledo War.
Ike Okereke It's pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things, though. Maybe something about the American entry into World War 1? I imagine there'd be some very interesting debates about the benefits of isolationism from that period.

Who cares if it is a small moment in history. As well, Extra History seems to look at lesser known parts of history.
Ike Okereke There's not a whole lot to talk about there, though. There was a dispute between Ohio and Michigan, and some skirmishes, but that's about it.
I came from
Vlogging Through History, love the stuff you upload!
If anyone is interested in a more detailed account of the revolutions of 1848, Mike Duncan has just finished talking about the revolution in France over at revolutionspodcast.com

Extra Credits, You do a FABULOUS JOB on Extra History!
Shouldn't you be saying "Emperor" and not "king?" The German word is "Kaiser", and they have another name for a king, "König".
He was king of Prussia and later kaiser of Germany.
Extra History tends to simplify a bit, like using modern flags or map outlines for older countries.
I would like to see a caesar vs cato. From their boyhood.
