    The problem has nothing to do playing someones music. The problem is when someone with a large following gets on a large platform and says "thats not my vibe" or "I don't listen to that stuff". Saying something like that can potentially impact my bag moving forward.

      But that has always been flex he is a Night Club DJ besides his radio stuff so he plays records his audience and the people who follow him like.. All DJ's are that way just like when i was younger in my teens and 20's i wouldnt go to certain clubs on certain nights because the dj spinning didnt play hip hop he played house music mainly but most of the people in the club those nights was dancers so he catered to them.. I am not saying flex is wrong nor am i saying conway is wrong but this is how the radio business works.

      Jay Z, Nas, Busta, Snoop, etc. showed that there is still a market for older niggas in rap. If they came out in the '90s or even '00s as older cats, it would be a different story. Hell, back when rap first started, it was mostly teenagers making the music. So an "older nigga" in the '80s was like 25, lol. Chuck D. was 27 when he came out with P.E., and that was considered old af back then. LL was 15. Rakim was 17. Kane was 19. Slick Rick was 19. Hip hop is 50 years old now. No such thing as "old" anymore, as far as I'm concerned.

    • @jassxnc
      @jassxnc 2 года назад +1

      Except hes absolutely wrong about that. The only regions that actually support their artists w radio play is Atlanta and the Bay Area. Everybody else is contracted to iheart or power or a random DSP. Trust me. Im from LA. The niggaz who really poppin out of LA havent gotten a single spin. And its actually worse in smaller markets because its really easy to homogenize the playlist to sync w the rest of the country when there isnt a consistent sound coming from there. Just because the market is diff doesnt mean the ppl running those markets arent the same ppl as the larger ones. And you see it the most w DJs who try and support the artists they came up w and fk w and cant do it on a major platform because of all the hoops they have to jump thru FOR the artists who dont have the resources to do it all themselves. So then they get stuck regurgitating the exact same playlist someone in ATL or MIA or Orlando or Houston or New Orleans has just because this many and so and so artists are incentivized under the contract that the radio stations sign w the DSP or ad teams. Thats how the stations get past the payola portion of the syndication. Theyre basically renting out ad spots. Those ad spots are paid for by the DSPs. And the artists (who usually have a major label attached) are signed to advertisement deals so that it creates the loophole for them pay to get played. Your regional market doesnt even truly exist anymore because of it. If you dont believe me, why would there be a POWERHOUSE concert in every major radio market that plays hiphop? If these radio stations are so different and if these DJs played what they wanted at all times, why would there be a festival... w mostly the same headliners across the board for every city theres a POWERHOUSE concert? Unless the DJs and radio stations only really get paid to play the ppl the advertisers and DSPs say to play... js... something to think about. No shade on you though. I understand where u comin from.

    The argument is about integrity. If Griselda is a NY Hip-Hop act (5boroughs or not) and they’re on fire why aren’t they getting spins on the hottest NY Hip-Hop stations ? Because a DJ doesn’t like them per-say or their music ? If the fans are in tune and demand it shouldn’t the DJ play it? If their hot in the city shouldn’t the DJ support it? They could perform at Summer Jam but not have their records played on the station?? That’s where the bias/politics comes into play.

    And this is why NY will never have the poll position ever again, why is it so difficult for New York to support New York? Being from the city or not Griselda is still a NEW YORK act and is arguably the biggest acts currently since Pop Smoke passed. Why is it so hard for radio to support them? They clearly have a large cult following that has the potential to be bigger. Why not give them the platform? Conway makes clubs records, the majority is definitely boom bap but why records like Scatter Brain feat Luda & J.I.D not getting radio play?! I love this shit and I’m here for the smoke 💨 I’m a 52 year old black man who grew up in New York City and been listening to hip hop music since Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five dropped SuperRappin and SHG dropped Rappers Delight in 1979! It’s a crime that Ebro & Funk Flex don’t have a platform for NYC style hip hop music! Conway The Machine is a phenomenal artist! You can’t tell me that Nas last 3 albums, the Griselda crew, Papoose latest music, The Lobby Boyz, Fat Joe, The Lox, Fabulous and Rae & Ghostface music all wouldn’t be well received from a Tri State area audience. I truly believe that the dna 🧬 of NY/NJ/CT born and raised babies from this new generation still could identify with the “boom bap” sound of New York’s traditional sound. Cardi B & Nikki Minaj are NYC rappers playing the game based on today’s music playbook. You can mix their sound with the aforementioned artists and have a good balance! We as New Yorkers have been obsolete for 25 years and have had our soul snatched away from us by clowns running the music business! In life you have to evolve or die but truthfully, real hip hop music has been stymied on purpose. Only God knows how this will all play out! 💯

      It’s exhausting, really! What is not to understand at this point? Unfortunately, K Slay is no longer here. Flex works for Hot 97, if IHeartRadio doesn’t want to push Griselda, and Flex doesn’t have a good reason to push their records, what do they expect? Is there really a demand for Griselda on radio like that? Math said himself, he doesn’t listen to the radio, like most people who are looking for that sound don’t listen to radio. I’m confused as to why people mad at Esso what did he say wrong? That’s how radio works, payola occurs in many ways, but you must pay to play! I’m from NYC and tired of hearing this argument. Flex has been like this for over 20 years. He doesn't rep Hip-Hop he represents radio and the clubs, who in turn represent the labels. As a DJ he has no power. Flunkymaster Flex would be a more appropriate name because this is what he has been for YEARS! He and those like him helped drive the traditional hip-hop sound underground instead of helping it flourish alongside the more popular/club sound of the late 90's early 2000's. Flex is not the hip-hop barometer and Conway and other dope artists like him should not expect him to be.

They used to use the blanket term "boom bap" for themselves but they dont call themselves boom bap as per se anymore because their sound is unique. Boom bap is definately a dated drum heavy sound, simplified loops with a few looped notes bass heavy. griselda make sample based ultra lofi typically no snares and samples from media like wrestling. They are keeping the culture alive and fresh for real. Griselda, dump gawds al divino, roc marci, knowledge the pirate, ka, anklejohn, estee knack etc with production from dudes making the most cutting edge lofi music on the planet.

    My opinion, any artist from New York with a Buzz should be played on NY radio. From the Mobb Deeps to the Conway's to Don Q's down to the Kay Flock's. I'm from the Bronx and I grew up listening to radio and buying Mixtapes off the streets. Back when Clue had the Monday night slot I would listen and from that I discovered so many artists (Stack Bundles, Paul Cain, Fab, Ransom etc). New York forever needs that for artist coming up in New York. Does New York even have a say so in Hip Hop today? We've influence the whole world but no longer get credit for what we started and we are part to blame for that. So if we don't support and break our own artist, who will? Dope episode Keep winning. Can't wait to see you hit that 1 milly.
