And I am so happy that you give us so much information. I look forward to all your music. And if you come to Denver, I will see you in concert. Keep it up
You are helping me improve my playing and through doing that for many you're spreading happiness and the love of music, and if a "touring" musician says otherwise, they're not doing the same. Only found your channel a week or so ago and already helping. Keep it up!
I will be super stoked to hear your new band music. But since I found your channel I have been super stoked with all of your guitar contributions! Your tutorials on guitar playing techniques are awesome for the guitar community! Cheers!!!
Honestly, whether a musician is online or touring doesn’t matter to me. I only care about if their music is good. A musician is a musician whether or not they tour or play music at home
I totally agree with that. To add another thought: although I‘m all into guitar-/metal-music, for me music has so much different characteristics, styles and methods to express and transport emotions, that it forms an own language. How to use that language to express yourself only belongs to the artist. So in the first place there is no right or wrong. It only matters that you stay true to yourself. And that definately is what Bernth does. ❤
I agree with that. I just find most RUclipsrs tiresome because their talent is there. You can clearly hear it in their videos, but they don't do anything with it. Bernth was at least doing something with it. I don't need to hear Master of Puppets on the clean channel, or Morbid Angel on a ukulele, or 100 Metal Zones plugged in at the same time. Then you get the endless gear reviews where it seems they are all reciting the same script ("Sell your Kemper for a Tonex" for example). I respect the RUclipsrs that make music and release it for us to hear. However, I have no respect for the goofy, gimmicky channels that don't really offer anything of substance. No one has ever gone on a road trip cranking "Guitarists of the 70s/80s Vs. Today." People crank music they love, and I think this is a big reason why there is a big hole in metal music. Because the young talent has chosen to be a glorified guitar salesman, rather than trying to create great works of art. We don't need another person to review the newest gear. We need more people to make art. I'll step off my soapbox now. Rain down on me with your hatred, lol.
@@travisspaulding2222there are still people out there like me that just love to make music and not “content” but the problem is that and many others in my position still need a day job (or rich parents/spouse etc) because I’m not making nearly enough money from just music. Bernth, I have played off and on for a few decades, and I have dropped it many times. The reality is it seriously does not matter what you can do. The best players define their own style, shit, look at Randy Rhodes, George Lynch, hell, just any of the notable guitarists in your eye. This was informative but at no point do I feel misled about your career or the direction of your musical journey. There have always been divas in your industry, that’s not bound to change. I found this channel quite by accident some time ago. I was pleased by your playing style, your ability to jump from rock into new age acoustic guitars but most importantly, your fearless approach to experimentation. I could not care less if you were creating a band, or just making solo music in a bathroom. My only concern is that you keep creating, because I am a consumer and I want more! I will continue to purchase your songs from iTunes so I can revel in your work wherever my travels take me. So thank you, for being a part of my life’s soundtrack.
Personally I couldn’t care whether you’re online or in a band. I like the channel, I like the mad guitar experiments and I like the songs on Spotify. As a guitarist myself, I was taught that we should support each other and treat each other like family. I lost my teacher due to illness and I miss jamming with him everyday. It makes me sad the jealousy and arrogance that many fellow artists show to each other. Whether a person is online or touring, I respect the hard work, dedication, and skill all of you possess and you've inspired me to be better. I would never try to downplay anyone or tell them how they should play. To me you're all great. Do as you please man, and I look forward to what you do next.
Its like calling every person that plays at home not a musician because they've never toured. I play and have never toured but still consider myself a guitarist. Not everyone can tour or make it in a band and the best way they can share their knowledge or music is online. Keep up the good work and never stop playing.
You honestly seem like one of most straightforward people in this space. The divide is really rather silly. From your vids you seem to appreciate both your online audience, and the opportunities on stage you've earned through years of dedication to your craft. Can't wait to hear your new music!
I’ve been learning guitar (and drums) for the last 6 months and something I struggle with mentally is how late I started. I had a decent home life as a kid but I was never encouraged to explore my own interests so I didn’t pick up guitar until 22. Now at 22, I’m realizing that being a career musician is always what I’ve wanted, but being behind my peers who started young I feel like I’m at a disadvantage to achieve the level of greatness required to be a successful musician. I’ve been on a certain track for years because it’s what my parents wanted and now I have to make this big change in order to be happy and I need a lot more experience in order to make it work. He started touring at 18 and I’m not even ready to think about touring! Some people start younger, are excellent players, but still take them years to be financially successful. I just have no idea how I’m gonna make it work.
I love seeing how excited you are! I was going to suggest forming a band with Charles but definitely do what you feel is best for your musical journey dude!
There's nothing really like making music together and when it clicks that's a very nice feeling, but when it doesn't work out it can leave a mark. It shouldn't be a reason not to try it again tho. Actually performing on stage having that audience is unparalleled in forms of expression and doing that with your own band playing your own music is the best feeling.
I remember Jeff Beck commenting once that he got bored very easily, which is why I liked him because he was always experimenting. You do this too. As long as you are having fun, nothing else really matters..... Opinions are like rear ends, every one has one. My dad commented, yes, and some of them stink......
Dal Av has been kicking ass and he just works with other solo artists that he likes. Screw subgenres and labels, dude is an amazing musician regardless
I wish you massive good luck in this new chapter and I can't wait to hear your band. I hope it's not toooo much to work on both stuff. And please never stop playing music even if you don't upload.
Music is what I love. You give me music, I don’t care what else you do. Seriously, who is actually getting bent out of shape other than people that think they deserve the other person’s success for some reason?
Honestly I found in comforting seeing you find success online as opposed to touring. I always felt if I learned guitar I only had the one option if I got good enough.
People = shit and they will always think they know better. Im a independant artist live and online. You rock my bro and have helped more people with music in many ways and i bet the guys that said band dont even play a fkn instrument. I fkn hate stupid. Just cant get over stupid. Thank you for all your vids and epic info. More like you and less stupid that grows on 98% of humans. Metal on my brother
A good example of this is Guthrie Govan, who is a studio musician, goes on tour with other people and also has his band, The Aristocrats. He also works in JTC Jam Tracks, and any of them would be a great job in themselves. I have seen him in a small concert hall in Madrid two or three times with The Aristocrats and it is amazing what a good musician and how humble he is. Sorry for putting Guthrie Govan here, I already know it's not about him.
Some of my favourite musicians are actually doing both. I think a lot of people share my sentiment. I don't understand why people always have to create a divide in things.
It's funny, because I'm old enough to remember when people WISHED there were alternative ways to get their music heard, and the only real way was grinding endlessly on local circuits and hoping a rep would come see a showcase and then sign you on. This freedom of ingress is what people in the 80s and 90s wished for. Now that it's here, we're all just taking shots at eachother. What a time to be alive...
I plucked my first string in 1987. I had eight years of professional instruction and I've been on stage many times but I'm getting older. I don't play in public anymore and I couldn't be happier. The music industry is stupid. All I ever wanted to do was to entertain people. It was never about money. Wearing stupid clothes, drinking and drugs, flying objects, rain, stolen or damaged gear, bimbos with STDs, getting lost or stranded, sleazebag promoters.... all of that is for the birds. Now I entertain my wife and kids. I'm just as much a "musician" as any other.
Imagine being an absolute tool who cares how someone chooses to share their music. As long as youre creating music that people appreciate just be happy their are people that are creating something for you to enjoy.
"Why don't you do exactly what you want to do and what fulfills you?" That is the question they should be asking. Anyone online saying you should do this or you should do that probably doesn't have much going on in their own life.
Whenever Someone puts a controversial title as I lied to you , or blah blah exposed , it is an algorithmic trick to crrate exposure. I blame the system. However looking forward to your upcoming work, you are one of the few good musicians I listen to, I like when you said complex but creates emotion , besides paganini, chopin did this really well.
I think if you make music and it makes you happy and/or impact those who listen to it, does it really matter? How big of an ego do you have if you hate on that? I think both are unique and expressive in their own ways AND I think both can be incorporated in an artist's release and sharing of music.
I've played for years and went through surgeries, addictions among many seemly difficult times and I'm finally settling down (kinda😆) in North Carolina, U.S. My wife and I are at a point where I have more time to learn how to use my picking hand again (right handed) because I had to have my wrist fused so it's confined (?) Basically, I was clicking through RUclips and saw you. Wow, new genre! You got me pumped again about the guitar. I'm a damn beginner again but I fell in love with your music and I won't stop until I just can't remember my own name🤣I'm lost and if you think you'd be able me plz suggest or HELP if you can, thanks Bernth
Dude, i like you, for what and who you are. I couldnt care less, about a band or bedroom musician srsly. These ppl need 2 shut it up. In my case, i just respect and appreciate all your doing. Love' ya. ;)
Love everything you do, bro!!! Keep up everything you're doing. In case you didn't know, I'm finding another band, also named ivory black. I don't know if that might cause you any legal troubles with the name or not. Either way, I'm really looking forward to hearing what you guys do. Congrats on the project. You will have my support.
So then my 23 years of playing guitar doesn’t count since I’m a “bedroom guitarists” I never aspired to be in a band I just wanted to learn to play guitar and play things I enjoying listening to and I’ve written my own stuff as well over the years but to say that I don’t count as a musician cause I’ve done nothing is just stupid
Absolutely. Music is about the joy it brings. If it makes you happy, that's all that matters. If you think it would make other people happy, let them listen. We're all on the same team here. It doesn't have to be a competition.
A musician is someone that does it professionally, that obtain money from doing it, if you just play for yourself like me, we're not musicians, it's just definitions
Thanks so much for sharing! Algorithm overlords are really working well today apparently cuz this is the second video I’ve seen today where I went “wow I really needed to hear that!”
You are a musician if you play music. You dont even have to play online or on tour; you dont even have to play to somebody else. You dont even have to be good at it. You play music, you are a musician.
on a serious note though, i toured in original bands for a little over 20 years and got to play with some big names. but i'm over it.. I do miss being on stage from time to time, but im just in a different part of my life. so i'd rather write and publish songs online and never tour. So i kind of get both sides of it. but i think it's unfair as a touring musician to look down on those that don't tour. they are completely different things in my opinion. in a show, you are putting on a spectacle. a visual of the songs energy. I fucked up every song at every show and don't care. because thats what the show is for. I am putting on a show and trying to keep energy alive. you want to hear it played perfectly, by the album. there is nothing worse than going to a show and watching the musicians concentrating so hard that they don't look like they are even enjoying it. there was a band we used to tour with that had some of the best songs i have heard, and the audience would clear out when they played because there was just no energy in the live show. where as we were more basic with our composition but we had a blast running out into the crowd, playing pranks on each other, and just being generally silly and entertaining. now i just want to write more progressively and get it down perfect and sell it, and i don't see anything wrong with that. more power to you.
Hey Bernth, I hope that question is fitting in here, but first of all, thanks for all the great exercises. Really the arpeggio exercise for keeping your pinky on the fretboard helped me within minutes discover that it was a big issue in my playing. Now what I wanted to ask you, do you have any course or something in general about the difference betweeen what a guitar player should sound like live vs. sounding on recording? I am asking, because likewise to you, Metallica is the reason I got into guitar playing. Now if you watch them live, they surely don't play as clean, as in the studio and I wonder, how big of a deal that is. I mean sure..I would consider myself still a beginner, since I am selftaught and mostly been noodling about on the fretboard the last couple of years. I shortly started your 30 day courses on rhythm guitar and alternate picking, but I wonder if there is something more to that. I mean every professional band I know, layers the songs in the studio and they play it partwise and not the whole song through, but if I record a cover for youtube I try to play it all the way through and alway mess up at some point..I guess my question is, how accurate should my playing be and how do I know, where I am with this, being realistic and not trying to be as good as a band, that played most of their lives live.
Building a band with people you get along with is tough. Getting those people to take music seriously and be easy to work with is probably tougher. Online players inspire me more because they show you don't need a bunch of people or things to create music.

I'm still amazed at how you come up with one project after another. Can't wait for the band release!
Both exercises are valuable You are the best of both worlds
Do what makes you happy
Nameste!.....😁
Congrats… I will continue following you no matter what you do, but I am glad you got a band.
This is probablythe best news of my april so far, thanks a lot :)
I wish you massive good luck in this new chapter and I can't wait to hear your band. I hope it's not toooo much to work on both stuff. And please never stop playing music even if you don't upload.
Always good to keep evolving! Looking forward to your new project :)
This is awesome! Congrats. Recently found you because of a collab project. I'm looking forward to hearing your stuff. Good luck!
I cant wait for the music youre gonna make with your own band. Congratulations man!
That was really a hook, line and sinker, but you still have our support. Let's go!
I can't wait bro. What you do for the guitar community is amazing. I have learned so much from watching your videos. Keep being awesome
Dude... way to do the thing! Just keep doing what you do.
1:45 CUESTACK isn't a band? That's how I found you in 2018, dude. Alive is such a sick song. I'll def be checking out Ivory Black 🤘🤘
Oh hell yeah! Can't wait to listen to the new project.
Sounds good, will be checking it out. These other bands failed because it wasn't the time, wishing you the best \m/
What a time to be alive...
how extreme would a band with bernth, charles berthoud and el stepario siberiano be
I plucked my first string in 1987.
"Why don't you do exactly what you want to do and what fulfills you?"
That is the question they should be asking.
Anyone online saying you should do this or you should do that probably doesn't have much going on in their own life.
Super inspirational!!! Good stuff!
Gratuliere dir! Freue mich und bin gespannt auf deine banderfolge von ivory black! All the best!
I wish you well and thanks for your content!
Looking forward to checking the new band out! :)
Glad you are doing what makes you happy 😊 to hell with what anyone else wants/ thinks!
Im so glad that he uses his 7 string for the song. idk why but i love it
😮😮😮 NNIIIIIIICCCE ❣️❣️❣️ I am so excited, too!!!
Love, love, LOVE the teaser ❤
Thats really cool. I‘m really looking forward to hear some new music from your new band 😊
You do you, man. No one can do it better, so don't listen to anyone else. Cheers.
🎉YES, WE'RE GETTING A BAND!!!🎉
So then my 23 years of playing guitar doesn’t count since I’m a “bedroom guitarists” I never aspired to be in a band I just wanted to learn to play guitar and play things I enjoying listening to and I’ve written my own stuff as well over the years but to say that I don’t count as a musician cause I’ve done nothing is just stupid
Exactly.
That's awesome news, mane! So excited to here it ;)
Who are they to decide on who's a musician or not? If you can play music, you're a musician. Bedroom, touring, online, it doesn't matter.
Good luck with this project Bernth!
Whether you tour or not isn’t important, what’s important is, the music.
Yeeees looking forward to hearing your band 🤗
Awesome dude!! 🎉 congrats and I look forward to giving it a spin
Just remember, it's all about the music and the love of music. Fake musician label is a joke! Feel the moment and enjoy be it playing or listening.
on a serious note though, i toured in original bands for a little over 20 years and got to play with some big names. but i'm over it..
Yay congratulations bernth were all proud of you❤❤
Hey Bernth, I hope that question is fitting in here, but first of all, thanks for all the great exercises.
I didn't even know their was a divide ha. I see valid points from either side. Ultimately though, makes no difference in my world 🤘
⭐⭐⭐COOL bernith ⭐⭐⭐🎸🎸🎸. 👍😁🇧🇷
Building a band with people you get along with is tough. Getting those people to take music seriously and be easy to work with is probably tougher. Online players inspire me more because they show you don't need a bunch of people or things to create music.
Good luck with your new Band, we will look forward for the band's gig
