Down-on-his-luck Los Angeles architect and builder Edward Shaw (Keith Andes) is approached by Doris Hillman (Angela Lansbury) with a business proposal: buying land together, on which he would build houses that she would then sell, using her experience as a former real estate broker. Her husband, Gus Hillman, a wealthy businessman, would be willing to contribute half a million dollars as capital for the venture.
Doris quickly seems interested in more than a purely professional relationship. Shaw starts an affair with her and accepts the business offer. However, an accidental discovery leaves him convinced that the Hillmans' interest lies less in the long-term profits of the venture than in the $175,000 key man insurance policy he took on himself as a precondition for the deal, and that an attempt on his life is imminent.
Madge, the younger sister of Doris, develops a romantic interest in Shaw as well. Without knowing what Doris has planned, she reveals to Shaw that her sister was married previously to a man who died in Wyoming when his car crashed over a bridge. Shaw ends up drugged by Gus Hillman and barely keeps his car from going off a cliff.
The police are skeptical about his story and the insurance company refuses to cancel the policy, Hillman having portrayed Shaw as a man who is trying to steal his wife. Madge teams with Shaw to try to foil her sister's scheme, but Doris lures him to a mountain cabin and shoots him with a gun. A wounded Shaw sees both Hillmans struggle then fall to their deaths through a clifftop doorway, just minutes before Madge and the cops arrive.

Directed by Paul Guilfoyle, produced by A.C. Burger (associate producer), Charles Maxwell (executive producer) and Hank McCune (producer), written by Russ Bender (screenplay) and Hank McCune (story idea), starring Angela Lansbury as Doris Hillman, Keith Andes as Edward Shaw, Douglass Dumbrille as Gus Hillman, Claudia Barrett as Madge Neilan, Jane Darwell as Landlady, Gavin Gordon as Sam Pearson, Charles Maxwell as Lt. Hoff, William Henry as Myles Norman, Kathleen Mulqueen as Mary, Dan Sturkie as Officer Biff, Jeane Wood as Mabel, the maid and Robert Haver as Mechanic.

Timeless Classic Movies
I like to watch classic movies
Timeless Classic Mo vies e
Love classic movies
I already had!! thaNKS A LOT
Another bonus with old movies you can see how they lived ..what was in the home, cars, fashion.
I totally agree! The clothes, jewelry, men in those suits and ties, the cars, the music....takes me back and gives me a good feeling! (And no clumsy, embarrassing bedroom scenes. Just a good tight plot and great acting...) But goodness knows, I sure didn’t have a swimming pool in my backyard! 😆
I like to encourage my grand children to watch old film noire with me for the sole purpose of showing how much has changed since then .
Yes it’s a little bit like a time machine
As I kid I enjoyed watching the old movies and here I am older watching them again 😉
How overdressed the men are!
I miss the orchestral music from older films. The sweeping strings, deliberate horns, it just instantly takes me back to my youth. I was born in 1956.
Me too ! ♥️🌹😊
Born in 56 too! And love old movies black and white movies make me feel very calm 🌹♥️😊
They are refreshing and lovely and quite wholesome
Me too, I agree. I loved old movies as a child, it has never left me. They are like reading a book!
1956!,,,
I love the older movies. Real story lines. No swearing every other word. Just a good movie.
so true. not trying to push a current agenda of sexuality, not trying to deliberately place women in a position for the reason of feminism, not hurling in a curse word just so as to get a pg 13 rating. The funny thing is, this generation talks like women were somehow never depicted as strong until the lgbt community pushed for it. that's a lie. Katherine Hepburn Never played an idiot, Audrey plays a fem fatale. Lucille Ball played the joke, red skelton did as well. In real life Lucy was powerful. I don't know of an era where women were regularly badgered. its like the MAIN issue they have is women in any show where they are housewives. Or being saved by a male in some action story...
THATS a lesbian "I am a man, and don't need a man" message. its not reality. In reality, women raise kids more than men ever have and ever will.
But commercial after commercial shows women working, and a man carrying a baby in a baby holder. that's a deliberate effort. because the REALITY is, those actors were not raised that way. Women raised them
@@sheetmusiconline8354 Your'e one smart women.

i also loved how No One had any morals in this one, not even the protagonist! ;)

Have loved classic movies since I was a kid, growing up in the 70’s. No need for overt sexual connotations or over the top violence, or swearing. Just all round greatness.
Two best things about these old flicks :
1. They respect our (viewers') intelligence.
2. They have trust in our power of imagination.
Absolutely! 👍🏼
3. You don't have to constantly adjust your volume because of extremely loud effects vs. very low voice audio like in modern movies.
Well said. 👍
@@danseabreeze1404 Yes agree!
@@thisisme3238 Not true I had too
Very enjoyable and a true pleasure to see Angela Lansbury in her earlier days. These older movies are so good at storytelling. No special effects needed!
Angela Lansbury at 95 years old is still a class act! A wonderful actress.
Yes indeed brother.
A.L. was a Friend of my boss and would visit the store often.
She was real eye candy in her hay day☺️
It was a treat to get to see her play a trollop.

Great old movies, one can understand what they are saying,no mumbling,no filthy language, and no guts flying across the screen.we can use our own imagination. Please keep them coming.
Gotta go to the comment section for filthy language, lol
Spot on. I also avoid most new films like the plague
that’s true.👍
I love this fucking shit.
Yes keep them coming!!
This is the definition of a great old movie loaded with proverbial wisdom! Nothing tops old movies and TV shows from that era.
This movie was fantastic! I had a very long day and started watching this, thinking I’d fall asleep. I stayed awake and captivated by the intricate plot ... and didn’t even need a snack or caffeine to help me. Bravo!!!
insane.
I love the way she takes a drink every time he isn’t looking ( to let us know things aren’t as they appear.)

How do you know that she’s alone? 🤔
Enjoyed this film. So sick of the freaks that are on TV and film today. No tattoos..facial stones...chains or clown clothes. Thank you!
What a treat to see the great character actor Jane Darwell as the landlady. I really don't understand all the negative remarks about Angela Lansbury's looks. I guess beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder, because I've always thought she was quite stunning when she was young - and is a lovely older woman to this day. She had a gorgeous figure, lovely skin and hair and gorgeous eyes. Maybe not a classic beauty. but beautiful nonetheless...in my opinion at least.
+Hippie Dachshunds Agree on both counts.
Zero_BS_Tolerance Agreed. I've seen both films. Her performance in gaslight was excellent.
No. She has no beauty. she has the snippy fat cheeked look of a woman who would sell her mother for the right price. She is great as the viper in "Please Kill Me" with Raymond Burr.
No? What did I misspell ? How do you know what she is paid? Men are stupid in the first place. She voted against Barbara Stanwyck in receiving an Oscar for "Sorry Wrong Number." Stanwyck is the best actress, the golden age, ever had to offer. But her "common" childhood of poverty, left a mark on the elite group surrounding Landsbury. You need to live closer to reality.
+Beth Miletti So Agree...Stanwyck was ahead of her time. Her performance in Babyface put her in a rare league!
back in the days when the script, plot, acting and direction were the most important part of film making. not like today where loud music and special effects are all you get.
I'll never understand the need to attack other's work.
I love old movies from 30's 40's and 50's so much more then now days.

I love these movies they are so much better than anything they produce nowadays! Angela Lansbury is such a beauty! I love film noir movies!
Angela Lansbury was only 29 years old when she made this movie. She always looked and played more mature characters than her real age.
She has the least appealing body of all female actresses. Her physique looks like that of a skinny male.
She always looked old to me and not attractive at all. I have a hard time watching her when they cast her in these parts because she just doesn't fit them. Angela does not have a sexy bone in her body.
I always thought, facially, she looked like a fat baby...much like the kid in the old Campbell's Soup ads. The way she looks isn't her fault. I've never been accused of being a matinee idol either.
She is supposed to be 28 in this movie
That was true for some of her roles. In my opinion, she was and is a beautiful woman in a very classy way. 1:05:07
I love to see the background and recall lots of the types of decor in the homes. These bring back so many memories. Oops, Im telling my age🤭. The men wouldn't think of going out without covering his head. Memories of my father. Always wore at least a cap. Praying at the table wearing ties, women in the kitchen. Aww those were the days!😘😂☺keep them coming!!!!
The style was unmatchable. It's a shame we've gone downhill... no style.
Like to check out the deco myself...and the clothes, as well as the old cars!
Drinking and smoking in old movies did you notice a lot of them died with related illness. I enjoy these movies non the less.
“WOMEN IN THE KITCHEN “, WOW
@@vaquero1117 I was a better cook than any woman with whom I've ever been in a relationship. I'm not exactly a heartbreaker (though not hideous)...a sense of humor and expertise in the kitchen goes a long way.
5:30 When I got divorced in 2000 all I had was a $10/hour job and a $5 bill. I did the same thing this guy did. I still have that $5 bill because I knew as long as I had it, I wasn't broke. In 2003 I bought a 50 acre ranch and built a small house with cash. God has been so very good to me. I had a 6 figure income for 5 years, then POOF, I've struggled ever since just to keep the ranch. But God has come through for me every single month. All the glory and honor to my Lord and Savior.

Wow😮
Classy old movie. So many great ones came out in the '40s and '50s, that I never got to see, until You- Tube.
I liked this movie because it takes me back in time. Even though it felt corny sometimes, I still enjoyed all the scenes of old L.A. and Pasadena. I felt sorry for Edward being played like that. A woman would never get that far so as to play a guy like that these days, but that is one reason why the movie was so interesting to me. I love the '50's cars, style of dress, houses, decor, furniture, etc.
California has changed sooooooo much even from when i was a kid. It was nice at one time.

I lived in California in the 70s-80, (sometimes it just seems like that was only a few years ago) and I am glad all my relatives have migrated to Washington and Oregon so I don't have to visit and see (put up with?) the many changes. I think the late 80s is when California really lost a lot of what made it magical. Or maybe not having seen it when my relatives moved there in the late 50s it just seems that way?
Howard Kerr I lived there in ‘74. I liked Santa Barbara and Laguna Beach best
In recent years I revisited SanFrancisco and enjoyed a trip north to Bodega Bay of “The Birds” renown. There are so many interesting places in the world, I hope to see some before I Check out.

Love Film Noir. Nothing produced today comes close to the talent, suspense and story lines. I cut my cable and disconnected my antenna a long time ago because these films are so much better than what is available there. Angela always put herself completely into the character she was playing, making her movies classics.
@Sheila T. Me, too

Chuck Crowder better writers. Better readers. Better actors. Better audience, too.
Geez I am sick and tired of the people who constantly who whine about the good old days of cinema and how they don’t make them like they used to. Society is different now and so are the movies. Not necessarily better or worse.
Everything gets worse, not just cinema.
I am certainly addicted to these old movies. They are awesome. I have not been to the movies for over 20 yrs now. Loved the movie no trash, nudity, etc. Well onto another TCM.
Cold day in hell before you see great movies like this again..
I was caught off guard by the window. Thank you writers for giving those two their 'just desserts'. Made my heart feel good.....
yes, i'd forgotten it too. It made me laugh when they disappeared:)
actually the correct phrase is "just deserts" - meaning that which they deserve. It has nothing to do with after-meal treats.
I wondered what happened to the two of them. She shot him about four times, then I've been scratching my head what happened to her. Thanks for the answer.
Angela Lansbury was always really good but when she was BAD she was BETTER.
Seems like she had a penchant for guys named Shaw. In the "Manchurian Candidate," it was Laurence Harvey who portrayed the character Raymond Shaw, the programmed assassin.
Angela Lansbury as a femme fatale. Who'dathunkit?
I only know Angela Lansbury as an elderly lady. Nice to See her so young and sexy.

Omg, I am totally in love with Timeless Classic Movies, I am on my second movie and I am so amazed, yes all these are before my time, I wasn't born until mid 69 but I think I have an old soul because I would rather watch all these than the drivel they put out today. . Thank you for sharing.
Ms Lydia same here born mid 69 and can never get enough of the old classics
I have that same old soul born 68 and grew up watching some of these movies, but really got into them in my late 20's. The best acting and story lines.
Ms Lydia G. I feel the same way. I too have an old soul. If you like comedy’s that are in black and white try Arsenic and Old Lace. His Girl Friday, Bringing up Baby. Katherine Hepburn is a little annoying in Bringing up Baby but Cary Grant is hilarious.
There are a bunch of us young, old movie lovers out there. I was born in 1982 and I LOVE old movies- film noirs, in particular. I gotta admit though it was my 1952 born mother who got me into watching. TCM on her screen most of the time. 😊
I'm with you, sister. Film noir is my kind of fun. Tough guys, and swell dames, femme fatales, et al, adrift in shadows and urban intrigue, seeking answers, romance, redemption, or a good blend of scotch.
I enjoyed this one, never saw it. Impressive performances and a decent narrative. Sometimes a kiss and a simple cup of joe, can mean your undoing. Close one.
Well, I gotta blow this joint, time to take it on the lam. I just heard Angela Lansbury calling. Great gal, but lethal, under the gravey. 😎
Lansbury is an excellent actor but I think she excels at playing villains. In this role I see shades of Elenore Shaw from Manchurian Candidate which she would play almost 10 years later and imo is her greatest role.
She also showed this fierceness in her acting debut in Gaslight and in The Harvey Girls. Love her as the bad girl!
Manchurian Candidate is truly a classic, for all it's qualities, especially honest subject matter.
P.S. Gaslight is one of my favorites for the scene Ingrid played at being insane.
So well said yesss
Forgive an old man, but, I prefer "Landsbury is and excellant Actress".... sick and tired of the PC crap and this new liberalism.. takes away from time tested values that got us all here today...jus sayin
Loved the movie Gaslight. I even started to use the term gaslighting. Still watch it everytime it's on
sorry all you movie critics.....I liked it...better than any trash made now that they seriously call movies

I also agree. I love how short these are and how authentic the characters are. The plot was very predictable but I actually cared about the main character and felt bad for all the crap he went through. I started laughing when it hit me, we'll never see a movie today that's about an architect and insurance agent working together leading to a mystery. It's so simple yet so effective.
Soo agree!

Wow - Douglass Dumbrille! He often played the 'bad guy with brains' in old movie serials.
Any role he had, from small to big, made a major contribution to whatever level of film it was.

What a beautiful actress! Pity that nowadays there is no beauty in Hollywood anymore. Just Lady Gaga, Kardashians and many other stars. All of them look so masculine. They have no talents as well. The main character actor is super as well. I like very much 'low budget' classic movies. Stunning actresses with feminine figures, nice dialogs, excellent camera works. People meet in small cafes, smoke, dance, drink. Always captivating. This brings the magic to cinema.
Julia K I still don’t get the appeal for the Kardashian’s. I know the mother will just as soon take a picture of her daughters on a toilet and put it on Instagram if she can’t quite figure out what the (DRAMA) for the week is to keep her daughters in the limelight. I’m sick of them. That’s not entertainment, it’s trash. They were okay for a minute but they need to retire.
@@shananalexander9789 And the problem is people love and follow them imitating everything they do. Nowadays one becomes famous just for being on Big Brother or having sex in front of the camera. And the audience treat them as if they were gods.

Umm. I think it has been claimed that Lady Gaga was actually born male - a bit like Michele Obama.
The film in question exudes a palpable aura of nostalgia, drawing viewers into a world where black and white movies reign supreme. It's evident that the creators behind this cinematic masterpiece possess such a deep admiration and passion for the classics. Their commitment to capturing the essence of that bygone era is nothing short of remarkable. The monochromatic palette becomes a canvas on which emotions are painted with exquisite subtlety, reminiscent of a time when storytelling was an art form elevated to its zenith. Watching this film is like taking a thrilling journey through the annals of cinema history, where every frame is a testament to the enduring allure of black and white. In a world dominated by vibrant technicolor, this film is a poignant reminder of the timeless beauty that lies within the shadows of grayscale. And Ahh yes I enjoyed it too 😊

The Kaiser Darrin, also known as the Kaiser Darrin 161 or in short as the Darrin, was an American sports car designed by Howard "Dutch" Darrin and built by Kaiser Motors for the 1954 model year. Essentially a revamp of Kaiser's Henry J compact, the Kaiser Darrin was one of its designer's final achievements and was noted for being the first American car equipped with a fiberglass body and doors that slid on tracks into the front fender wells. The car was named both for Henry J. Kaiser, head of Kaiser Motors, and Darrin.

The rented car was a Packard sedan, when I was a kid neighbors had a similar car but to me (a 5 year old kid) it looked like an overturned bathtub.

Some NICE classic cars in this one. Kaiser must have payed some $$$ to get their new sports car beautifully photographed. Even at 29, Angela Lansbury looked like somebody's mother ... much more suited to Manchurian Candidate. Pretty good film noir with lots of 50s sets and props. Thanks TCM

Mr. Edward Shaw/Mr.Keith Andes is surely divine.😉As is Miss Angela Lansbury.
Thanks ever so much for this upload, i enjoyed it immensely. Cheers.🙏
We pay so much money to go see a big screen movie and unlike these classics, you leave never wanting to watch it a second time.
Movies like this prove you can make a great movie without cursing, nudity, or having to listen to God and Jesus names taken in vain. Great acting, directing, and you get movies like this.
Goddamn is that right.
And you always gotta have the booze and cigarettes in every scene...just for authenticity.
Just deceit and old fashion murder plots executed with a plot twist.
I'd rather see some tittehs.
Well Eddie...I guess you could lock yourself in the house and die a virgin, but, to be honest, you're going to miss out on a lot of enjoyable things. You'll be unable to watch sporting events on TV as the microphones always pick up sounds from the field, court, ice or course. You will never be able to view Gone With the Wind, Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan, The Godfather, The Exorcist, The Last Picture Show, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, M.A.S.H., Fast Times at Ridgemont High and hundreds of other wonderful movies. C'mon Eddie...don't you want to see what Brigitte Bardot looks like without her clothes? The traditional "7 words you can't say on television" aren't listed as profanity in the King James Bible, so they are only profanity if you attach profane meaning to them. And if God was against nudity, you'd have been born wearing a double-breasted suit. Oops...I said breast. Sorry.
Great movie. Although I am only thirty-one I enjoy watching the classics.I would watch Turner Classics whenever I would have time.Count me as one of your subscribers. Thank You.

This one was GREAT! Love your Channel! Thank you so much for shareing these little gems with us. :)
The lead actor reminds me of Michael Hutchence of INXS who died in 1997. He was gorgeous, just like this actor!
