Reading “My Dark Places”. Very revealing memoir. A lot of criminal cases are mentioned related to his mothers 1958 murder. He did some very thorough research on her case.
He’s something of an easy author to get into, strictly in the sense that most of his book chapters are short - some chapters being only a page long. I judiciously read at least a chapter a day of any book to unwind, and James Ellroy is great at serving my compulsion - especially when I have a particularly busy day.
From the word dipsomania. The root word is dipsa, meaning thirst in Greek and mania, Latin for obsession. Dipsomaniac is an alcoholic or drunkard. Someone who must drink a lot without self-control.
Scorchy666 you don't know what you're talking about. His novel Perfidia is the FIRST book set during WWII, his 19th novel, published in late 2014 at age 66!!!
He's a bit too much for the 21st century political correct toady. Too real, too honest, too raw. He doesn't need to change, and you shouldn't judge him or 'his need to grow' as a writer. He is not for everyone, in fact I would say, he is not for most, normal people. But he is something different, something unique. Sometimes I think he's brilliant, other times I think he's crazy. Maybe a little of both.
One of the great American writers. The interview over coffee, done in black and white, is perfect.
He uses curse words like a cool boy
Beautiful. I love how this interview was done at a coffee table, in black and white.
"... can't you tell this is all an act ..." I love this man
Followed by a quick cut. Wonder how he elaborated.
These fraught days I often forget there are gravelly types like James Ellroy around.
In the future, please mike both the interviewer and the interviewee...
in the future turn the volume up.
@@MrJames-tw3so Or.....mic the interviewer also and leave the volume as is.
Love this guy. The Underworld USA trilogy is a masterpiece.
It takes decades of writing to develop the capacity to be this honest with oneself.

From back when he was still saying nice things about LA Confidential
I must read one of his books. He seems interesting .
I take it you did read him. He's brilliant isn't he.

That was because Teenie had a tiny beenie.
He's stuck in WWII. Zero growth as a writer.
Scorchy666 whats your idea of a good author?
