I would love to see this benchmark run again with the 7900 GRE running its memory at 2425MHz, the same speed as the 7800 XT. This would show how much more performance the 7900 GRE chip gives over the 7800 XT.

I've heard online that the 7900 GRE should be getting a "bug" fix regarding the overclocking issues, but who knows for sure if it'll get it. If it does get the fix, an overclocked 7900 GRE should be way better.
I also own the 7800 XT, and it perfectly meets my requirements for 1440p high refresh. I contemplated the 4070 Ti or 4080, as they are superior cards, but they are also considerably more expensive. I made the decision to go with a mid-range option for the time being and save money for a future upgrade.
Hi Testing games! great video as always!, I think whomever wants upgrade from low end cards (like 1650, rx 5700 or even 2070), that extra 50 bucks is worth it. The solid 1440p 60 fps is all what we want. But this should had been the actual 7800XT though...anyway its a great card, especially if we consider for substantial upgrade.

There are no overclocking limits to fix. They do it on purpose because they dont want lower end cards to reach the power of the higher tier. They want you to spend more.
It doesn't seem more efficient to me, draws a sizable amount of power more in many of the tested games. I thought the efficiency would be better than 7800xt but I'm a bit disappointed
It's very close, but I decide to go for the 7800 XT because currently there's this cash back option from ASUS where you get up 100 bucks after buying certain GPUs. So basically getting a 7800XT for under 500 euros while the 7900 GRE is still at 600 euros here.

20$- 75$ difference in my country from least expensive to most expensive 7800 xt and cheapest 7900 GRE, but given that cheapest GRE is Sapphire I'd go with that.

At most games you'll get a tiny bit more Fps (~5-10), but the power consumption is almost everyone time ~10% compared to the 7800XT. In my opinion that approximately makes that 50 Bucks more a bad decision long term.
It's maybe only a 50 dollar difference, but on average the 7800xt also consumes 25-50watts less power, thus less heat generated, and due to it being available in a duo fan setup instead of triple fan setup it's also much more SFF friendly. So I think both cards are good options, 1 just costs a tiny bit more and if you're building in a tower then it's a no-brainer, but the 7800xt has many other niche benefits to offer against the performance loss. As such I'll probably go with a 7800XT instead of the 7900 GRE.
It's really just a case of do you have the extra $50 rather than a case of necessity so is it worth paying more? No probably not as far as FPS goes but if you have the money you should get the best you can afford within your budget
7900gre and 7800x3d on asrock b650 livemixer or b650 gaming x with a artic 360 aio and a p400a it's 1600 euros. nothing can beat it price/performance and it can get above 100fps in 80% of games on 2k.

I got my Gigabyte 7800XT for a little less than the reference model. I didn't really know about the GRE at the time. And I think they would have had even the same power draw. My 7800XT routinely goes up to 280W (probably because of that third fan the reference doesn't have). Also I'm still on the AM4 platform so Ill be limited by that.
In Poland it is 80$ difference. This is why I still think about which one to choose. I was aiming 7900 like "for sure... This is the one!!", but now I might get 7800xt. I dont know if that 5-10 FPS is worth it. 7900 gre has other advantages?
Constantly 5-6 extra frames nah If it was a 10-15 frame difference than 50 dollars is justified. Lower power consumption is also an upside but it is a VERY small amount of power saved. Itll save around 2 dollars a month if youre using the pc every singleday 8 hours a day
both are great value as they have full 16gb vram. but pay the 50$ more and get navi 31 gpu instead of the navi 32. and dont even think about the 12gb 4070 super
Not worth it. Just think about it, if you can't get the resolution and fps with 7700xt, u can't get it with 7900gre too. Switch off or down one or two graphic settings that don't do much to the performance is a better option.
I Just watched this vid and then bought a 7800 Xt because of it. Then 7900 GRE was 530 but the 7800 Xt was 470 and being they are so close i decided to just get the 7800 XT saving 60 bucks even though the new drivers are out and the GRE would have been much faster but I didn't want to overclock anyway for a few more FPS. I mean if we are talking 20 to 25 FPS then maybe but we aren't.
well about +7% avg for +10% more $ don't get me wrong if I already doesn't had an RX7800 XT I would definitively would go for the GRE since I'm using a little higher resolution than 2560x1440 any extra FPS will be good at a higher resolution.
7900 gre has no point considering that its $60 more than the rx7800xt as of early August 2024 and only gets 2-10 more fps with more power consumption to get those fps.

one one bad thing is that the 7900GRElags bandwidth is starved by its 256 bit bus last driver updata from amd did give it memory oc optines and if you OC the memory it can run faster +15% faster then a normal 7900 GRE
