  • Bill Frisell is an American jazz guitarist, composer, and arranger who the New York Times has called “The most significant and widely imitated guitarist to emerge in jazz since the beginning of the 1980s.”
In 2005, Frisell was awarded the Grammy for Best Contemporary Jazz Album for his album Unspeakable. Frisell’s alma mater, the prestigious Berklee College of Music, awarded Bill with an honorary doctorate as recognition of his musical achievements over the course of his 40+ year musical career. Bill is also the subject of a new documentary film by director Emma Franz, entitled Bill Frisell: A Portrait, which examines his creative process in depth.
“Frisell has had a lot of practice putting high concepts into a humble package… Long hailed as one of the most distinctive and original improvising guitarists of our time.” - The New York Times
In Episode 64 of the Weird Music Podcast, Bill elaborates on the importance of trust and imagination in improvisational music. Frisell reflects on how he allows music to inform his life decisions and a religious experience in college that led to a serendipitous meeting with Bill Evans.
