    This tutorial allowed me to take on a huge project. I am currently halfway through making a 6-ft. blanket for my brother because he got me into Dungeons and Dragons last year, and I thought this looked just like dragon scales, so it was perfect.

    • @MyTinyKitchen
      @MyTinyKitchen  3 года назад

      I also thought it looked like mermaid and dragon scales, so I specicially picked this color to make it my "mermaid" blanket. This would be very pretty in reds and oranges to make it look more like "dragon" scales.

    Thank You so much for the tutorial. I've been knitting and crocheting since I was 5 years old, I'm now 55 and I've always tried to master this stitch. I watched your video and did it right the first time. I thank you. This stitch was the last stitch I could never figure out. I'm making a small purse out of the alligator stitch. I have small zippers and I'm going to line it and put in a couple of pockets. I may make a key chain that matches.

    I am so glad to see such a clear video on this stitch! I think I like the diagonal over the regular version.

    • @MyTinyKitchen
      @MyTinyKitchen  7 лет назад +2

      I think the diagonal is kind of fun because you can make it however big or small you want it. If you do the traditional one where you go straight across, you have to pick your size first since you have to make the supporting row.

    Great job on the tutorial. I’ve watched so many tutorials on RUclips, and everyone one I came across went so fast and never gave enough explanation about where exactly you would stitch into. I have to say that you can be great at one thing, and you can do it well, but not fully understand it enough to teach it to someone. You did though, and thank you for that. Also I appreciate the explanation and advice about the extra stitching. Great tip! You’ve gained a subscriber.

    • @irmar
      @irmar 4 года назад

      Frankly I prefer doing a single post between the "V"s that are going to be used for scales. First of all it is not necessary to put two stitches and secondly if you don't pay attention you might by mistake make a scale there. Whereas if you see a single post you know you have to just make a sl st and go on.

    • @MyTinyKitchen

      You can certainly try it and see what you think. However, just be aware that this is a directional square, and because it has layers, it's going to be a lot thicker and heavier than traditional granny squares.

    • @MyTinyKitchen
      @MyTinyKitchen  4 года назад +1

      For the decrease, just don't go all the way out to the end. Instead of making the foundation row all the way to the end, stop one section back. As you do that for each row, it'll eventually get smaller and create your decreases.

    • @MyTinyKitchen
      @MyTinyKitchen  6 лет назад

      You can keep doing it diagonally, but make it into a square. If you want the back plain, just do a separate square that is single crochet and then I would attach it with a slip stitch all the way around where the ridges are on the setup row from the back.

    I'm having a problem with my crocodile stitches not laying flat. I've loosened my tension and changed to a bigger hook but they still won't lay flat. Any suggestions?

      Mine don't lay perfectly flat either. This is more of a dimensional stitch. Depending on what yarn you're using - If it's a natural fiber, you can try wetting it and blocking it to lay flatter.

    My scales are curling to the right. Does anyone know what I may be doing to cause that?
    I put it under a heavy book to try and flatten them.

      You may have too much tension on that side when crocheting. Or it could also be the yarn, depending on the twist of the yarn.

    Thank you for this video! I am making this as a blanket for a baby shower but to make its rectangular-ish do I adjust the foundation rows on both ends like you did in the video or on one end ?

      You adjust it on one end first, until you get the size of the rectangle you want, and then you start adjusting it on the other side to make it rectangular. For ex, I would start making it smaller on the right hand side, but keep adding to the width on the left, until you have how tall of a rectangle you want. Once you get your height, then you want to start adjusting it on the left, so that it will make the top part of the rectangle even. Once you get your height, you will be doing decreases on both the left and right side, to create your other corner.

      @@MyTinyKitchen I love your video tutorial as well...I would like to make the blanket rectangular as well. I'm at my 19th row..,so I need to continue to chain 3, for increase on the left side and NOT on the right side, until I reach my desired length?

      @@MyTinyKitchen Could you explain how to get a rectangular size instead of a square? I started the decrease on one side, but after 4 rows of the one-sided decrease, I frogged because I wasn't getiing a "straight" edge on the decreased side. Does that make sense? Any tips? Thank you!

    I need help, my dragon/crocodile scales turn in on themselves. What am I doing wrong?

      There's so many variable. What size yarn to what size hook are you using. What is the yarn content. What is your tension like. It's not something I can diagnose blindly. I would suggest going to a local crochet group to see if they can help you troubleshoot in person.

    I love your tutorial! Thank you! Out of curiousity, what kind of varagated yarn did you use at the beginning of the video?

    Can you tell me does it make a difference of using one DC instead of the 2dc that you skip? I'm using a pattern now that only uses one DC in that unused post vs your two. I'm just curious if that makes it less scrunchy or if it's just a waste of yarn I could save. Thanks so much

      The 2dc that you skip becomes the anchor for the next row. It changes the look and stability of the scales.

    I use picots instead of a chain 1 space on the scales. Its more pointed and I just think it looks better. Any one else?
