Ah, the Almohads. My favorite memory of that venerable empire has to be all those games of medieval total war I played growing up where'd I'd play as the byzantines and try to reconquer the Roman empire only to find the almohads waiting for me in France with their massive armies ready to battle me for Western Europe. Good times.

You are a gem dude. Hearing this history from someone who is way more present and knowledgeable about arab culture is amazing. Your pronunciation of these arab/amazigh names is excellent! Too much history on al andalus is taught from a perspective of glee for the coming reconquista but hearing you pontificate about how sad you were when the Ummayad's collapsed in your last video was a nice moment of finally seeing the other side. After he was caught for causing trouble in Marrakesh, the orthodox Maliki jurists of Marrakesh concluded that Ibn Tumart was blasphemous for his claims of spiritual knowledge above other men and dangerous for his takfir of fellow Muslims, and recommended he should be executed or imprisoned. The Almoravid emir merely expelled him from the city, however, a decision I'm sure he came to regret!
Incredible video as always - concise and informative.

The Asha'rite Ibn Tumart movement has extended the lifespan of al-andalus. The Almoravids were a failed movement, and lost all popular support, they failed to administer or militarily adapt and learn from Christians. They excluded andalusians from participation in power or even as advisors. Nobody knew christians that well except their kinsme the Muslim Muwallids of Andalusia. The Almohads were slightly better, even worse but their movement was necessary to increase age of muslim presence in spain.

The fall of Lisbon is an unusual one because the Portuguese got assistance from a mostly English contingent of Crusaders who stopped off on the way to the second crusade in Syria. They never intended to stop in Iberia, bad weather forced them to, but they found a major conflict already happening loaded with religiosity between Muslims and Christians and were very glad to whet their appetite before getting to the Holy Land. Ironically, despite being a sideshow to the main event, the christian victory in the siege was the only notable Christian success in the Second Crusade, which otherwise completely failed to take Damascus or Recover the county of Edessa, it also helped lay the groundwork for an alliance between Portugal and England, which is the longest lasting alliance in world history.

@ⴰⵢⵔⴰⵎ For you information I have an Olive complexion, my Race is from Asia. Besides, there no so such people as Black people .
People from the East are Asiatics, people of melanin. If you know anything you should know that Olive complexion comes in many different shades,
      Olive means GOD,
      Olive-green
      Olive-red
      Olive-yellow
      Olive-brown
      Olive-blue
      Olive-purple or bluish-purple
These Olive shade represents the different Olive shades of hu-manity, the ripest and purest of all Olives shades are Olive-purple, the share of your darkest Eggplant , deep Olive-purple. Moorish people are not Black, Moorish people are White people, Pale skin people are Black people, Pale and Black are synonymous, parallel to one anther . currently most people inhabitants of Northern Africa Hybrids, a lot if them are Eurasians, not the Original inhabitants of Northern Africa,
Hybrids because they are the mixture of dark skinned Moors and dark skin Arabians. It was through amalgamation with Southern Europeans, and other Pale skin Europeans that Moors enslaved or held for ransom, a lot of Europeans was allowed to marry within our Tribes . This is why Northern Africa is populated with Hybrids, not Original people, Europeans, pale skin complexed people can't be Amagizh , Amagizh means( born of Noble birth) Pale skin people can't be Amagizhs, because Pale means lifeless, dead, sinful, ungodly, sickness, you can't get Noble birth from being Pale-skin.
Pale skin means that there is wickness, Pale skin Europeans have Black souls, remember, Black and Pale is of the same nature. Moorish people are not Berbers, Berber is a misnomer that has been misapplied . The Original inhabitants of Northern Africa were the Moabites ( Moors ) who came from Asia, the Holy Land.

MALAY SUBTITLES Part 2 of 4
    04:05
    05:10
Satu demi satu, Almoravid kehilangan sekutu.
    05:12
    05:27
Pada bulan Mac 1147CE, Marrakesh jatuh ke Almohad.
    05:31
Menjelang 1148CE, sisa pegangan mereka diambil alih.
    05:34
    Almoravid tidak lagi.
    05:35
    05:51
    kelebihan kejatuhan kuasa pusat.
    05:53
Seorang lelaki itu bernama Muhammad ibn Saad ibn Mardanish.
    05:56
    06:03
    Castile bahkan memberikan pasukan kepadanya.
    06:05

Stage 2: Begin administrative reforms and build some Mosques, people are OK with the occupation
Stage 3: Go to war with the neighbors, win a couple times, lose a couple times, then sign a treaty of some sort
Stage 4: The ruler dies and his incompetent children begin screwing up systems previously put in place.
Stage 5: They become extremely dictatorial and begin killing people all over the place, and civil wars begin breaking out.
Stage 6: "The Neighbors" come in and steal land while the civil wars are going on.
Stage 7: Soon "The Neighbors" fully take over, and expel everyone.
Stage 8: "The Neighbors" begin indoctrinating the people, and teach them that all the Muslim Rulers were corrupt and evil.
Stage 9: The once proud Muslim Empire fades into obscurity.

The Almoravid Empire stretched all the way down to Ghana, but I find it weird that this region stayed out of all the conflicts cited above, no mention of any army raised or sent from there to help Almoravids, but instead it's all between the berber tribes of north Africa. Also you can always count on the Andalusi to be devious and back stabbing, I always admired the civilisation but it's a wonder they lasted as long as they did with this mentality.

No. The Moors speak an arabic dialect called Mozarabic. In Morocco. Arabic was a lot more common in the big cities and urban areas. Mainly because it was the only language that was taught, because their schools were msids where they learnt arabic to read the quran and hadith. Over time the cities became mostly arabic especially ones like Fez, Casablanca, Rabat, Meknes, Marrakech, Kenitra etc, while the rural areas, which is most of where morocco lived remained amazigh. The huge transtition to arabic happened in the 20th century where, the urban population boomed, and so did the arabic speaking. It went from 20% arab and 80% berber, to 70% arab and 30% berber in the 21% century.

MALAY SUBTITLES Part 3 of 4
    08:03
    09:32
Kematian Alfonso menyebabkan kerajaannya Leon-Castile berpecah.
    09:36
    11:06
    serangan selanjutnya.
    11:07
Pada tahun 1162 SM, sekitar dua tahun setelah Abd al-Mumin pergi, Ibn Hamushk, bapa mertua dan
    11:12
penguasa bebas Ibn Mardanish menyerang Granada.
    11:16

I imagine youʼre referring to Muhammad Ibn Tumart. Well, unfortunately for you, he died before the spectacular victories in North Africa and Spain were achieved by the true establisher of the state and its first ruler: Abd al-Mu'min bin Ali al-Kumi.
“All the capitals of this Empire were in Morocco”... So what? This doesnʼt change the fact that the rulers of that state were Algerians retroactively, considering the political reality of todayʼs world. Same goes for Marinids (from Biskra, northeastern Algeria, on the northern edge of the Sahara).
Ancient historical figures are attributed to their contemporary states and peoples: the Pharaohs to Egypt, the Persians to Iran, the Umayyads and Abbasids to Saudi Arabia, the Castilians to Spain, the Ottomans to Turkey, the Babylonians to Iraq, Kublai Khan to Mongolia, etc.
The Maghrawids, the Almohads, the Marinids and the Wattasids all come from the Central Maghreb, modern-day Algeria.

@@zdeldeul I think you're wrong in your reading of history and quite frankly, based on what you've written above, you are confused about quite few other things. The Almoahads as a religious doctrine, a political force as well as a dynasty which is the subject of this video, are uncontestably Moroccan. So are the Almoravids, Marinids, Wattasid, Saadians and Alawis. When we talk about ancient dynasties, we ultimately attribute them to their area of control from which they garner support and power from the local populations. All the dynasties I mentioned above, sprung up in Morocco, with local populations support and established their capitals in Morocco. Hence, they are Moroccan dynasties. You claim that since Abdel mumin who is one of the rulers of Almoahads is of algerian descent, therefore Almoahad dynasty is algerian. If we follow that thinking, Italians can claim that they ruled France during Napoleon era since Napolean is of Italian descent. Kenyans can claim that they ruled the United States for 8 years since Barak Obama's father is Kenyan. Better yet, Moroccans can legitimately say that they've ruled algeria from 1962 up to 2019 since all Algerian presidents from its independence up to 2019, were either of Moroccan ancestry or spent their formative years in Morocco. Ben Bella's parents are Moroccans from Marrakech, Boumedienne and Bouteflika lived during their formative years in Morocco and so is most of Algeria's FLN top brass which are known as Oujda gang.

The almohads were imazighen. They did not see themselves as algerian, moroccan, libyan or tunisian. But first as muslims, and second as proud imazighen. All imazighen from morocco to libya can be proud of that great empire.

Great video but there are mistakes:
1- almoravid never ruled the entirety of algerian coast they got to algeirs then pushed back by bouloughine ben mohamed
2- almoravid mouvement was born in mauritania not morocco ( they were in mali before reaching morocco) abdallah ibn yacine was their chosen leader

The first map is inaccurate : muslims were expelled from Barcelona by Charlemagne in 801. They managed to retake the city in 985 but they didn't occupy it since they left the place after plundering and taking some captives.

    almoravid started in mauritania

    • @observeurr
      @observeurr Год назад +2

Almoravid Movement started in the Sous-Oued Noun area where the locals became increasingly more interested in truth and Islam. It did not start in Mauritania but it did reach northern Adrar which is where Moroccans lived and which was Moroccan land, they were the ones to create a unified Moroccan state. Mauritanians today are also created by France and their name is also a juxtaposition since Mauritania used to be a Moroccan kingdom. Maur-Moor. Still the same people.

The Almoravid dynasty was a Berber Muslim empire that originated in the region of modern-day Mauritania in the 11th century. However, the dynasty's founders, Abdallah ibn Yasin and Yahya ibn Ibrahim, were from the Sanhaja Berber tribe that inhabited the Sahara region, which covers parts of modern-day Mauritania, Mali, and western Algeria.
While the Almoravid dynasty originated in the Mauritania region, it established its capital in Morocco and expanded its territory to include parts of North Africa, as well as southern Spain. Therefore, it is more accurate to describe the Almoravid dynasty as a Moroccan empire that originated from the Sanhaja Berber tribe, rather than a Mauritanian empire
