I’m almost 53 now, had a 1991 KX500 back when I was in college. Sold it (should’ve never)! Always rode MX bikes since my first KX080A (1979). Then I bought a mint original 1988 KX500 a few years ago…and I love it. So much fun to ride, much easier to ride than most people think (as long as throttle control is sensible)! Totally agree with your comment. I still love riding 2-stroke MX bikes (all 9 of mine) just as much as when I was starting out as an excited 10yr old kid😊
Man n that track just makes it even so much more badass that kx500 is just perfect with that track and just the way you hit them burns with the roost and how sweet you land every jump is just immaculate
This monster sounds so good, each time I see one in a thumbnail I watch the video. Who ever built the engine and jetted the carb did a fantastic job. Mine runs good but this thing rips the whoops like it's a 250. And no you don't have to give these things much throttle, I've been through the whoops on only the back tire before 😬😬
I had CRs. 85 86 an 89. Then bought a new 93 kx. All 500s stil got the 86 CR. My buddie had the bright idea of taking the 86 jug an head to pro circuit. Used there pipe also. NASA would be proud😂
Yo I went to school with a Tyler bowers. He was always showing us a dirt bike magazine with his picture in it lol he was racing 85s at the time. Wonder if this is the same dude.
If you are from the Danville or Crab Orchard KY area then probably. He is well know around here. I have never met him personally but know a few people who claim to have grown up or rode with him.
If Kawasaki is smart they will bring back the KX500. The same as it was before, with oil injection, a normal looking gas tank and pipe location (see CR500) an overdrive 6th gear, a compression release, better engine balancing, and a carburetor. Not fuel injection. They will just have to bite the bullet and pay the EPA $10 zillion dollars in carbon fines and useless carbon taxes, to give the people what they want!
They dont even need all that. Just upgrade the clutch-side case for easier changes. I have a '97 and 5th gear is allmost never used. A 6th gear would make it an even more dominant desert monster. The Team Green KX500s would do 118mph all day in the Baja races. And since it is being sold as a closed-course competition bike, the EPA can pound sand.
I have a 1993 kx 500 and would like to put a boysen water pump on it!!! But can't seem to find the right one to Mach up to it. Any info would be appreciated. Long live the 500s.
The MX Guru I would powdercoat the frame but make sure you keep your build clean an simple in my opinion Good luck on your build hope it turns out good.👍👍
My 01 is powder coated gunmetal metallic. It has lasted many years of serious off road abuse. Maybe 15yrs. Motox, GNCC and sand. It's finally due again. Looked awesome and was well worth it. Use a reputable shop and make sure the frame is prepped real good.
Did my frame in the Neon Green from the Pro Circuit days. Looks sick on my 125. The code is still available. Going to do the same come KX500 build time.
Idk about all these people saying they rip your hands off. I raced a 94' model not long ago and found the power very manageable. Bike was very easy to ride and the front end was extremely stable. So much fun to ride, but my 450 still takes the cake for scarier power :)
Yeah.. Riding my brothers 500 and hopping on my 06 CR250 I felt my 250 was more violent but the 500 with that soft suspension and big booty seat just felt more mellow and manageable since the gears where lile 3 times longer than on my 250.. They are over hyped for sure
Gee.. all the EXACT same mods Jeremy McGrath did to his KX500... right down to the rear brake and mounting tab! Minus the aluminium gas tank.. hmmm, what a coinkidink!
That things have power valve? When did the power valve will be activated!! It's jump here and there! Damn.. I need this engine.. 500cc with power valve.. It's a monster!!
Everyone calls these things monsters I have a 91 that runs real nice runs on vp race fuel....and this thing is smooth not as much hit as my 2015 kx450f just a lot of torque...you have to short shift these suckers and lug them revving up makes you go slower far from a monster.that third and 4th gear are like star wars when the millennium falcon hits light speed.
If you have never ridden a 500cc two stroke you don't know what you are missing and no a 60hp four stroke is not even remotely close in terms of stretch your arms power.
@@weedsmith9317 250 is a fantastic bike and in the hands of 99.9% of riders is faster over the course of a moto and safer. I raced a 88 kx250 back in the day as well as a 90 and 92 kx250 so ive had plenty of seat time on them and loved them all. But a full race 500 in some deep loam is a whole different animal and if your name is Jeff Ward, JMB, Ricky Johnson or David Bailey its faster outdoors then any 250 could hope to go.
@@christopherkeiser2872 If you plan to get a KX500 i suggest getting a 1990 or later model, my KX is a 1989 and there are a number of parts on it that Kawasaki is sold out of that are still in stock for the 90-04 models.
Is Kawasaki watching? Is it against the law for them to build another run of these? I'm sure they would sell all of them with just a few updates and keep the old school look. .
How much horsepower? This is the fanciest KX500 in the world. We need all the specs. Horsepower, torque dyno print out sheet showing the torque curve and the weight of the bike.
u can put money in it till the end of the day.. the bike still looks ugly against a CR 500. the shrouds looks ugly, the tank looks ugly, the muffler looks ugly, the back fender looks ugly.. the onlything that would be better is the KIPS Engine! very rideable!
That side clutch case mod is worth its weight in gold!
A KX500 doesn't need a banjo backing track. A KX500 makes its own music.
Effortless power
I'm 61 and have three KX 500's. 89-90-91. Won many races back in the day ,mx-hare scrambles-hill climbs . Never say never.
Looking to sell one??

Great rider & bike combo! I have a KX500 & a bunch of CR500’s. Ride mostly bush, mountains. They have never let me down yet.
Prestine because nobody could ride that beast
Hats off
Man n that track just makes it even so much more badass that kx500 is just perfect with that track and just the way you hit them burns with the roost and how sweet you land every jump is just immaculate
That tank is sick
Tyler's grin from ear to ear tells more than anything about the bike ...
Denver, Kawasaki, and Chevrolet. Doesn't get much better than that! Definitely my Favorite KX and Year Model of 1991 too.

You had me @ 500.
12 mins of goodness.
You hear that sound people? That's the 90's you hear. And it's better than now.
Shear strength from that monster

In the 90’s everyone was riding , nowadays the sport is meh
The best bike ever!
I had a 99 KX500 for about five years. Broke my heart to sell it, but three ruptured discs told me I was done riding.
The 500s were ahead of their time. Perfect now tho!
What a monster I love it💚🏁
That's a piece of Art!!! 👌❤

That KX sounds crisp. KX is the way to go if you wanna go to Bonneville😂
There needs to be a 500 supercross event in the monster energy cup
Badass! How much does a bike like that weigh?
220 lbs
Never get bord of that sound makes my hair stand on end 👍
I WANT THE SAME BIKE ONLY WITH A 640 STROKER ENGINE
Sounds amazing!🤘🤘
Epic classic.....I remember how tough these bikes were......Yours is EMACULANT"
You mean immaculate??
"THE BEAST"!!!!!!
Great job, nice bike...
Pure sweetness
impressive bike
Agree....👍👍
Would love to see this raced at the Strait rythem
Adoro il 2 tempi di una volta.
Amazing bike
Where's the parts suppliers list? I need to freshen up my kx500 too!😕
Think I’m in love again 💚
I’l love Your bike! 2 Stroke All the Way
So awesome! Please ask Tyler if he would be competitive in the 450 class on it.
@fred savage Do the rules allow for a rider to ride a 500cc 2 stroke?
@fred savage no way he would smoke 450s
@fred savage in a straight line, around a motocross track he would be lucky to win b grade, 500's dont stop or turn as good as 450's
They need to bring back a 500 spec class both indoor and out.
That chicken barn music is so fitting for this video 🤣

nice farm sim sound track!
Very few people can ride a 500cc 2 stroke to its potential, Jean Michelle Bayle was probably the best ever
Bayle would overheat the rear brake from dragging it so much too..
Its a beauty! 😀
I love dritbike love u so much
Loved riding that bike 4 speed is all you need.
peter toth yeah but 5th gear is a wild ride.
5
Who uses 1st anyway
4 speeds sucked i had an rm 465 before my kx500 and I was constantly searching for fifth...and on the kx500 im searching for sixth.

Ever try seat bouncing it?
Where was this filmed ?
At pro circuits test track at glen Helen if you watch in the background you can see glen Helen
Please list the guy you got your tank from, your engine builder and suspension guru.
Docwob from the UK does the tank and fasteners 👍
Big up , Nice 500 kx !!! Mais tester un 500 CR de 1988 ....., 🏇penser à attacher la ceinture ça va cabrer et étirer les bras

That's a KX, not that nasty trick kawi is doing with their 250 and the obvious 450.
Mah man!
😍
Can we take a moment and talk about that fuel tank?????
Mixing gas and hauling ass BRAPPPP
you wonder why Yamaha hasn't brought back an Open class 2 stroke.....i'd wager they would sell quickly..............
If Yamaha had made a production version of the YZM500, even with a steel frame, the moto world would have been a very different place..

Designed to ‘SCARE’ the Honda’s....😂
All this "progress" the last 30 years and I want this instead...!!!
I never could understand why Kawasaki did the pink graphics. It’s like painting a Lamborghini pink ...lol. I dunno 🤷♂️
80's were rough and melted some minds dude. And the early 90's paid for it
Codey Snow I believe you’re right. Terrible color scheme nonetheless. 🤮
In the early 90s everything was dayglow pinks, purple, green etc. Moto Gear, surf trunks, boats, bikes.
Contrast
Great bike, music sucks though.
Awesome video TERRIBLE!!! I SAY TERRIBLE!!!! MUSIC...…..
That frame though, yuk
Bowers is bad for the motocross community. He's a trouble maker that has had multiple fist fights
That country music doesnt match the beast its playing at
Tom Morgan is a thief, owes me 2K for the junk motor he built for our team! Did not stand behind his work!
Can you explain further?
Now where's the Cr500
Wait for the dust to settle.... the CR will show up....
