I thnk the Wharfdale Diamond 12 series, especially the bookshelf speakers, do need a sub-woofer to get the full range of sound on the low end. I paired mine with Wharfedale Diamond SW-150 sub and that really provided an amazoing experience on the low end. The Wharfedale Diamond 12's are really quite natural sounding. They have a sweetness and warmth to them that really makes them special in that mdrange to low high end. They do roll off slightly at the top of the highs, but I feel this helps them sound less sibilant and less fatiguing.
Overall, I feel these are a great speaker, look good, have good sound stage and imaging and sound great if you like a slightly forward mid range.

I've just purchased the 12.1 and seen alot of hate across the internet on them people saying the 12.0 is alot better. starting to regret my choice already! 😞

Great review! Which one would be your choice? Q acoustics cinema pack or wharferdale set (with 12.4)

I talk about that here: ruclips.net/video/oMA607VINmA/видео.html. But for movies diamond 12, music 3000i line.

@@HomeTheaterHobbyist yeah, I saw this vid (really nice comparison). I was thinking about full set. So if I listen to music about 30-40%, q acoustic will be better option? Should this set work well in about 55m2 living room?

What did you set the crossover for the center channel? As it's 90hz, probably need to set it to 100hz? Is that an issue?
With all of the rest crossed over at 80 and the center at 100? Or just crossover everything at 100?

Got myself a set of 12s went for the 10.3 10.c 10.0 and added the sw-10 can't wait to plug them to my denon x1700h and listen to them... I've tried klipsch r50 r40 r30c and r12sw and didn't like them, I felt fatigue even when listening at low volume...
I'm expecting a much better performance from the wharfedales and a warmer sound signature...
    Thanks for sharing!

The 12.1 beat the Q Acoustics 3020i and the 3030i.

I still have my Wharfdale Diamond 8, 5.0 setup and still working well 20 years later. Considering moving to 12 setup. Do you think the 12.0 is a good fit with the 12.4 and 12.c or would the 12.1 or 12.2 be a better fit?

    • @HomeTheaterHobbyist

Nice! It sounds like you’re not planning a subwoofer so I’d probably go 12.1 or 12.2 for better bass response. I haven’t listened to either but the bass depth and detail should be better on both of those when compared to the 12.0.

Great review and very close to my own experience auditioning these. They are great speakers but to me they just felt a little lifeless, probably due to the lack of treble like you said. I ended up purchasing the Bowers&Wilkins 603 S2 AE instead; the detail and clarity are off the charts compared to the Wharfedale but I guess that's to be expected given the price difference lol.

I had a few different whatfedale speakers over the years. They all sounded like pure SH!the. I used a whatfedale center for a few years and vocals on it were terrible ,I had a whatfedale speaker they had a cheek to call a subwoofer which sounded more like a weak bookshelf speaker with very little bass and I had a pair of floor standing whatfedales which were rubbish. One of my friends had a set of those Whatfedale cubes and computer speakers sounded better than them 😂.
After giving Whatfedale three chances I'll never buy any of their speakers again.
P.s. I am not saying I hated whatfedale speakers before I got whatfedale speakers. I heard good things about the brand before buying them. My experience with the brand is not a good one though.

@@HomeTheaterHobbyist Lol. Let me correct myself with 'softly spoken'... your reviews are really good. Any content coming that explains the benefits of running amps to the pre outs of AV receivers ? I feel RUclips home audio channels are lacking that content. I'm blown away after adding amps to my Yamaha AV receiver. Game changer !

    • @HomeTheaterHobbyist

      Ok understood.
I feel like I covered amps here: ruclips.net/video/fq8of0WkjCk/видео.html
