I've been thinking about it for a while, what will happen when videogames get indistinguishable from reality? For example, in GTA 7 when you shoot an NPC, his brains and guts spill out with graphics that look like actual real life, will people still find it fun?

I would be excited if we didn't live in the land of tech demos and quick to drop off trends. Look at the state of VR for the prime example. Or RTX projects. Or even big multiplayer mods like Skyrim Together.

Not yet, but a few more years and we can run things like this in in real time. The quality and consistency will also go up massively once we pass buffers and labels from the game directly to a neural network instead of just letting machine learning do guessing work on a finished image.

I don't think even the best current setup would be able to generate 1% of that... only AI with hundreds of $40k Nvidia chips.
I love it. We're getting so close. The only thing I'd change is to have the prompt make the vehicles nothing newer than 1993. Beyond that, it could be pretty cool to have it use an overlay or filter to make it look like a news broadcast on TV in the early 90's. Just concepts for another video, perhaps, Again, great stuff. Once this thing runs in real-time and the visual glitches are ironed out, it's gonna breathe so much life into older games. 🤩 I can't wait to play Gothic, Morrowind, Oblivion, Fable, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time with a hyper realistic filter.
This is cool. Shame the blood doesn't translate over. Would be even more of an upsetting and disturbing effect if the gore was there on the realism filter. Plus some of the vehicle glitches were pretty funny. But outside of that, it looks insane and good.
Now most of these ai reimagine videos can be good and silly at the same time. But honestly games with an isometric or bird's eyeview is terrifying and looks like actual footage. So these angles actually work.
This could be one of the first use cases for a realistic graphics application. Because it doesn't take too much compute power to run an isometric game like this. 🎉
i agree that we dont need it. but the point of this tech is to give options to people who have different preferences. zomboid naturally has a stylized graphics that the devs dont plan on changing

Most terrifying and thought provoking to me about this, is the concept of simulation hypothesis, that with this kind of technology we are slowly making the very simulation that everyone denies the concept of being submitted too, but its slowly becoming everyones reality. therefore, who's not to say that it has already happened before and we are in fact just about to make an simulation within a simulation? 😅

if you skip dead end branch of overhyped video editing tool everyone for no reason tend to call AI this days, Unreal versions of Project Zomboid exist already, and some are decent in terms of realistic textures and such. The main problem of recreating PZ on other game engines is the complexity of all game mechanics. Developers themselves change engine they created at least 3 times (from what I can remember), and built 42 is like 4th generation of their own engine. I have played PZ since almost first beta, and over years it evolved and was redeveloped few times. Hopefully they do turn on few mechanics they had to turn off to optimize the game, really missed the times when in-game year 3 would literally turn things into hell mode with all crops having diseases to a point you can say goodbye to farming and from there on you would only last as long as your stockpiles. And few other mechanics turned off in favor of multiplayer and future NPCs.

It is ways from PZ currently, would not call it even Alpha stage from personal experience. But in terms of in game mechanics it is future clone

Unsurprising that one thing that had to be improved was the vision cone. Long-time Zomboid players get used to it or take it for granted, but the vision cone is pretty jarring for new players and is visually unappealing. Even in the A.I. version, it still looks bad when zombies are disappearing.

wow, it's crazy and scary what technology is capable of these days, but for me personally it's too realistic. The more realistic a game is, the less I want to play it.
I have some ideas: Get the original version of Spyro & see if you can make it look like the remaster. Then compare your version to the remaster. Get the Star Wars pod racing game & make it look like the movie. Get Yoshi's Woolly World & make it look like real wool.
Every day, AI evolves at a dizzying speed... It just needs to correct some aspects that obviously show that they are not polished or are not well done... And we could make a movie just with video games.
