Building the FIRST BMW E31 850ci Pandem Widebody for SEMA 2021!

Our customer Marv purchased this 1995 BMW E31 850ci and wanted to do a build for SEMA 2021. He reached out to our Sr. Mod Expert Kevin with an idea that would eventually be one for the books.
Marv got together with Pandem to reveal the WORLDS FIRST E31 Pandem widebody kit. He also partnered with Toyo (as you'll be able to see R888R's throughout the video) and much more. As soon as Kevin was contacted by Marv - he got to work. They made the decision of putting BC Forged MLE61 wheels with a brushed clear center, brushed clear lip, and stainless hardware. To compliment the wheels we installed a Big Brake Kit in the front by Brembo as well as painting the rear calipers red. Our shop ModBargains/Mod Auto installed rotors/pads from Stoptech, Motul fluid flush, and we added a cat-back exhaust system from Supersprint. We also installed bulbs, aftermarket steering wheel, stud kit, dash cam, Toyo tire stickers and aligned the car.
A long list of modifications, sponsors, partners, and vendors went into this build and we couldn't have been more happy to be a part of this special project. Congratulations to our customer Marv on this epic SEMA build! Let's do it again next year.

I’m an American living in Germany for the last 25 years, so I’ve seen a lot of these totally restored and looking brand new, but I’ve never seen seen one with a kit. I think it looks incredible, and I’m sure the old-school enthusiasts over here would be blown away by it. They’d just love it. It makes think about looking for one over here to get started on. Stop propagating the lie that "This is using the same engine as the McLaren F1" No - It's not. Especially if it's the 850Ci and not the 850CSi. The "normal" Ci had the 5 Liter M70B50 engine; the 850CSi had the 5.6 Liter S70B56 engine. The F1 had the 6 Liter S70/2 engine, and, while it shared many similarities, it was completely different from the other two applications that the 850Ci/CSi had. It is NOT the same engine. Period.
What do you expect from ppl seeing an 850 for the first time in their lives? The typical bla.. they hear and just handing it over without doing some due diligence. But I hate to say this car looks incredible!
Yeah and why is he calling it the M57 when thats the diesel straight six, and a 5.8 doesn't exist either. I dont get it.
I like the clean and sleek original design. This kit makes me think of a combo between the M1 race car mixed with an F40 (to be time period accurate).

My favorite 8 series by far and that kit just made it so much better.

Very cool build - The white-lettered Toyo's are about the only thing that I suspect won't age well. That fad seems to have already come and gone (thankfully) but the body kit and restoration in general seems top notch. This was peak BMW in my opinion. 840's & 850's, M3's & M5's, 964/965's and 993's, R33 GTR's, 2Jz's... what a time to be alive!

wish the wide body wasn't just an overlay with the rivets sticking out. the panels should have been replaced with lightweight fiberglass or carbon... like the Koenig SPecials kit.

Anyone know where I can get more info on the build? I’m mainly looking for suspension set up and wheel/tire specs. I have an airlift kit from a previous car I wanna use and I wanna get the widebody kit.

The Toyo is a good value semi slick, but when it comes to total grip and race tyres the question is, do you need a good value tyre. You already spend a ton of money for your car and if you can get a much better tyre for just a bit more money, why would you not go for it. The tyre is the most important part on a race / sports car.

An interesting interpretation of a classic GT car. But I wonder what it's intended for? Showrooms? Trackdays? Sunday drives? If I was ever to get one of these, I'd go for the lighter 840 with a manual tranny, add moderate turbos and lighten the car as much as possible without sacrificing comfort. No body kit, pls, the car is already wide. Then I'd take it for a very long drive in the Alps and along the Mediterranian coast.

one very important convertion i would do : get rid of this stupid automatic and give it a nice simple gearbox with a stick shifter ! maybe the stock one that belongs to this engine (in other E31 models that are produced as manual) but i can t tell if you did something with the engine so might need something else

Looks great. In my opinion and experience; bout quarter of an inch to half an inch less of width on the panels would’ve of made the car more “modernized”.
Front you did well in size reference, the rear is just a tad much. Granted to each their own, although I would of taken a bit off the rears. Smidge on the front to enhance the remaining body lines of the vehicle.
But I’m nitty gritty truth be told. Beautiful color. I never see the purple but still a flawless color.

dislike bc man there are a LOT of differences between this motor (the M or S70 not 57) and the McLaren F1 engine. DOHC, VVT..the basic block architecture was the same. if it's a 850CSi motor then it's the s70 5.6

Thanks A, in the original cut I actually mentioned that there was a difference, but got cut thanks. Regardless this motor was the backbone for what later became the Mclaren's motor also in my eyes one of the last great v12's.
@@talkingmods Still incorrect. The Ci got the M73 Engine, the CSi got the S70 Engine which in another development was put into the mclaren F1.

would ve gone for bigger breakes ... still quite a bit of room in those wheel barrels if you look closeley
We did go big brakes, we went biggest we could with the Brembo Big Brake Kit in red. The rears nothing was available, we had to paint the rear calipers and put on better rotors and pads.
@@talkingmods well believe it or not ... there are in fact bigger brakes(disks) out there and why rely on brembo ? i m just pushin on this so hart because the build screams to become a heizer-auto .. german slang for car to go fast .... or rennauto (race car)
Yes bigger disc brakes if possible sure(however the kit was designed with certain factors by engineers), but Brembo cause of the designed brake bias (in having a specific kit), we can't just throw on any Brake kit on a vehicle, it would completely throw off it's balance unfortunately, but during this build, I do know Brembo was consulted on the rotors etc and thats how all this came about. Perhaps, I should do a talking mod about brakes... hmm topic idea. Appreciate the feedback and you watching! Thank you
M57 Is a straight six Diesel engine
This is an m73, it never came as a 5.8
BMW never made a production v12 that shares anything but the number of cylinder with the mclaren f1 engine
Pretty sure he meant an m73b54 auto. And agree, nothing to do with the Mclaren.

Engine is not related to mcl f1. Both are v12 and made by bmw but not related. The mcl f1 engine is more like a e36 m3 inline 6 doubled.

The original car is amazing. I don’t though like the aggressiveness at all! The 850 was always an elegant GT car. The widened and too low stance looks not great. A bit constraint would have do wonders.
However the livery really works and make it work slightly better!
Now they need to find a wrecked 07-10 E63/E64 V10 M6 with the rare 6 speed & swap it in. Build would be absolutely legendary then.

Thanks, love Gordon Murray's genius (unfortunately we cut the engine talk on it in editing, but great link ) and good to know that the straight six's came off the inspiration of the McLaren's motor (regardless BMW really flexed their motor ability's back then when no one else could)

Tho I like it. I don't like riveted body kits. A very lazy solution to a widebody. Maybe for a track or driftcar. But for a show car. Why not use fiberglass and Bondo to flush out the fender moldings. Make it look factory.

Correct is: 5.4 liters (5,379 cc)
- 2nd mistake: M57 (even NOT M70B50) = wrong
Correct is: M73B54 (‚54’ stands for 5.4 liters)

Bruh this is not even close to the same engine as the mclaren f1. You said m57 ( that’s a diesel i6) but it’s actually an m70 which is two m20 engines joined at the crank whereas the mclaren f1 has an s70/2 which is two euro spec s50s joined at the crank
